Any fans of the show?
Thought's or comments on the last three episodes of the third season?

I thought Sunday's episode was great, I especially loved when Peggy smokes pot! "I would like to try some marijuana" The first two episodes were a little dissapointing though.

I found Episode 3 absolutely hilarious; so many funny/weird moments

And yes, "I'm Peggy Olson, and I want to smoke some marijuana" is an amazing quote :sobbing:

Awesome show. I did not watch the first two seasons. But when waiting for Breaking Bad which comes after it, I decided to tune in. :)

I have to watch my DVD's of it to get up to speed.

saul, which do you prefer - Breaking Bad, or Mad Men?

I have seen a couple episodes of Mad Men and... bleh. It's not that I don't understand why people think it's good, it's just that I don't care about anybody on the show and am thus bored by it. I'm going to give it a few more episodes, because I was told it can take a while to get into it. I can appreciate this, seeing as I was a huge fan of The Wire (best show ever, says me, and many others), which is brilliant across an entire season, but not necessarily great for standalone episodes.

I think you really half to watch form the very beginning to really get into the show. The first two season were absolutely amazing!!! It's really one of the best written shows on TV. However I was a bit disappointed with the first two episodes of this season.

By far Breaking Bad. It is beautifully written, great acting. Brian Cranston was awesome in Malcolm in the Middle, but even better in B.B. The story lines pull you in. I watch the reruns as much as possible, I have the DVD's for when I want to watch. :)

I am not an expert on Mad Men since I have only seen a few episodes

But I would still say B.B. is the superior show despite the Emmy's and Golden Globes Mad Men has won.

Having watched all seasons of Mad Men, I can honestly say that it is a good show not a great one. It is definitely not tune in television for me. The problem with MM are that there does not seam to be any big payoff at the end of each season, and the characters are not that empathetic and relatable. I think the novalty of the nostalgia of all things 60s is what got the show the rave reviews but I don't think it is enough to get the fans coming back.

Peggy and her new roommate are going to fight like cats and dogs.

Is it me or has the quality of writing on this show really dropped for season 3? It seems a whole lot more fragmented and disjointed, and the stories are wandering aimlessly. Why did S-C merge? They were closing deals with booze every five minutes last season. It feels like the Brits were brought in just to give Don something to brood about and Roger something to drink over. I gotta admit, Peggy doing Ann-Margret in the mirror was LOL-worthy.

Joan looks smokin', though. Nice to see that she can still wiggle.

The most disturbing thing about this season so far is the way they are handling Sal. That scene between Sal and Kitty (?) in episode 4 was hard to watch. I know he is gay, but that was like a caricature of a gay person. I find it hard to believe any closeted homosexual in the 1960's would act that way, even at home in front of his wife.

I got to thinking, the other day, what would get this show back on track, and I concluded the following:

1. Don needs a really torrid affair with a really substantial woman. A brunette, because he always steps out with brunettes. Somebody older than Joy but younger than Bobbi, well-read, sophisticated, but with an artsy side. Not unlike Midge, but without the Greenwich Village posse. Possibly one of the Brits--a hot new design consultant or something. Get Eva Green to guest star. This should not be a one night stand or casual fling. Don falls in love with her.

2. Betty should be totally vulnerable, forgiving of Don's previous transgressions, and have a sense of renewal about their marriage until discovering Don's affair, whereupon she has a complete nervous breakdown, develops an alcohol/drug addiction, and re-enters intense psychotherapy. Out of a sense of guilt more than anything, Don stays with her until she becomes such a wastrel that he leaves her.

3. Roger gets Jane preggers and she has twins.

4. Bert Cooper has a stroke and has to leave the agency.

5. Pete outperforms Ken and becomes the sole Head of Accounts. Trudy finds out he is the father of Peggy's child and leaves Pete.

6. Harry gets a bigger role at the firm as television begins to squeeze out more traditional forms of print advertising.

7. Joan wears tighter and skimpier outfits.

8. Peggy and her new roomie constantly bicker over which is better--Sweden or Norway.

9. Pete proclaims his love for Peggy but she has a crush on somebody else.

There--I think that covers it.

I agree, the writing on the show has really dropped off this season. Were not left with any real cliff hangers or suspense. The first two seasons every episode was so powerful, now it's just a little bland. I really hope they step it up soon!

Anyone see yesterday's episode. Betty had her baby and that's about it. I've been so disappointed so far this season. When are the writers going to actually write something compelling?! The only story line I really care about now is Peggy. Where did all the office drama and sex go????

I haven't watched the last episode but I'm enjoying Season 3. I love the young actress who plays Sally Draper. That's not an easy role for a kid (her plot lines are not your typical child scenes). Oh is it just me or does anyone else suspect that Ken Cosgrove is in the closet like Sal?

Does anyone think the finale will have anything to do with the Kennedy assassination? Ever since the show started, I've been wanting to see how they deal with it since it was such a huge story. I don't know why I think it would be the finale; I guess it just seems like a good stopping point :o

Crazy Canuck
Sep 23rd, 2009, 03:01 AM
Yeah, they'll probably end the season around the time of the assassination. Just because.

I finally got around to watching what has been shown of Season 3. It took three weeks for me to watch episode 2, after forcing myself to watch episode 1. It wasn't that I thought it was terrible; it was just that I didn't care. About the storyline. About the people. Any of it.

I decided that I like Peggy now, so that's something. I'll give it the rest of the season.

I much prefer Breaking Bad, but realize that depressing programming isn't for everybody.

Love the show and the story lines have picked up with each new episode. Is it just me or is Don a real A-hole this season? He has gone off on just about everyone and can have such a nasty tone! All the main characters on this show are quite compelling. I just hope Joan comes back soon...miss her. And did anyone see where Christina Hendrix just got married in real life? Congrats!

NEVER in my wildest dreams would I guess Betty Draper would get a divorce  It's just soooo not Betty

Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce is going to be interesting! I wonder how successful they will be.

Loved Kinsey's reaction when he realized Peggy got picked over him. I wonder if he, Ken, Kurt, and Smitty will all be absent next season?

And no details at all as to what has happened to Sal! I have a feeling that means he will be back next season. They can't just leave that story a mystery.

Also, what was with the flashbacks? I didn't quite get what they brought to the episode. Other than show how Dad Whitman died...

January Jones is the weakest of the three main actresses on the show, and her character is an absolute shew. Needless to say, I haven't missed her all that much.

I suffered through Season 3 in the hopes of finally "getting" this show. I mean, I got that was good, but it wasn't really for me, and I certainly didn't think it held a candle to Breaking Bad. But now? After most of Season 4? I get it. Season 4 goes on the shelf as one of my favorite seasons of a TV show ever. I still put it behind The Wire, but it's on par with Breaking Bad and the Sopranos.

Episode 7 was particularly excellent. If that's not Moss' Emmy, I'm going to curse the computer screen next year.

I personally respect that the show doesn't give in to viewer demands. We need more shows like that, because it seems like a lot of the time, writers put in story lines that are based on fan wishes, and those story lines end up failing because the writers have no interest in them, but they have to do it for fan satisfaction. And, also, Mad Men & AMC have shown they couldn't care less about ratings. They just want to tell a story, and the show won't end until that story is told completely.

I wonder if Don will ever tell Megan about his past. The only lovers he's ever told were Betty (because he was forced to tell) and Faye (whom he chose to tell). I felt really badly for Faye. They had a genuine connection. I don't believe in soul mates, but they were pretty close to it. But Don never picks the right woman. I'm sure the thought of being with Faye scared him because she was just as strong as him, while he will be able to control Megan.

Hamm is helped by Breaking Bad not being eligible next year (due to not starting their next season until July 2011). Not to imply that Hamm doesn't hold his own against Cranston, but the Emmy's do love them some Walter White. The only way that Hamm doesn't win is if the Emmy's finally decide it's Laurie or MCH time. Or just decide to be complete dicks and give it to Buscemi in his first season (of Boardwalk Empire, a show that you should be watching). In other words, it's still anyone's game.

As for Moss, they Emmy kids might feel guilty for not giving it to the Good Wife lady this year and throw her a bone next. They would.

Joan, this will never work. She's an idiot.

She's not an idiot. It could work. If I'm not mistaken, Roger even posed this as one of the options initially, did he not? The only way it doesn't work is if Dr Idiot figures it out, which... well, come on. He is Dr Idiot. As for why Joan made the choice? Well, her uterus isn't getting any younger and has already gone through multiple abortions in the freakin' 60's. Should she ever wish to reproduce, she's wise to hold on to this one. Not sure why she lied to Roger, though. That part is strange.

While I don't necessarily agree with brickhousesupporter, I don't see the uproar with him posting his displeasure about the show in this thread. I've also followed shows that continually disappointed me, in the hopes that they would get better. Sometimes they do! This is how I felt all of Season 3, which was blah, and I was rewarded with Season 4. So, bitch away, brickhouse.

Poor Betty. I think she was about to tell Don she wanted to get back together and then he crushes her with that news.

Crazy shit.
Betty is a grown child, a shrew of a woman, and the worst TV mother since Mama Soprano; how on earth could one possibly feel pity for her? She's a poorly formed emotional cripple of a human being, at absolute best. Pity her children, if anybody. Season 4 was better than Season 3 in no small part because of the limited focus on Betty.

Don't get me wrong, Don certainly has his faults and is a terrible father most of the time. However, we get to see that he does have one or two decent qualities; Betty very well may have one or two herself (aside from her physical beauty), but we certainly aren't shown any.

I don't like Megan. I think he will tell her, he seems to want to be more honest with people. He even told his kids that he went by Dick when they saw the painting.

As for Betty this season, I feel the writers did her a great misjustice. Last season she had a great story line with the affair, divorce, and finding out Don'secret. This season she seem to have the same bitter unhappy emotionless storyline. Her character didn't go anywhere or do anything this season! The last episode we finally saw her let her guard down a bit.

Joan is absolutely fabulous as usual! No surprise she decided to keep the baby, saw that one coming! The scenes between her and Peggy are just fabulous! Especially the elevator one :worship:

I love how the writers are using Peggy to bridge the gap between the old and the new. The uptight era of the early 60's which is the office, and the free spirit era of the late 60's which are her friends.

Last season the only story lines about Betty which were even remotely interesting were actually all about Don. Hence, when you remove Don from the picture, Betty is completely uninteresting at best, and absolutely fucking awful the rest of the time. She fired the nanny she had for years due to one poor decision, insulted the woman, refused to let her say goodbye to the children, and refused to give her a reference! Only an absolute shrew of a woman would do that! I really can't call her that enough. Honestly, I don't understand the Betty love around here, at all. It's because January Jones is attractive, right? I mean, surely it's not actual interest in the character?

I agree without Don her character doesn't have much meaning, that's probably why she was in such little of this season. The final episode she was finally in more than one scene and not in a good light! The writers really need to take her character into a different direction. January Jones is a great actress but she really didn't have much to work with the season.

I laughed out loud upon learning about the Don/Megan wedding. It's been foreshadowed since Faye told Don he'd be married within the year, though.

As for January Jones... I'm not convinced she's a "great" actress, but have been told that's likely at least in part because I think Betty is the worst character on TV. I acknowledge that Jones is not actually Betty Draper.

Relating to Betty Draper is really, really, not a good thing. She's not a hot mess; she's a grown child.

As a single professional male around the same age as Don Draper, I totally "get" the Megan decision.

While in my 20s I might not have even given it a second thought; a decade or so later, "what kind of mother would this lady be for my children" looms right up there with looks in the list of desirable qualities.

It seemed obvious to me that Megan was the better choice(foreshadowed by Megan comforting Sally when she "ate shit" in the office)...

...while both ladies are easy on the eyes, Megan rocks with the kids (no comparison, once she had them singing in French and unified as siblings she not only beat out Dr. Shaw who was awkward around little Sally, Megan showed herself a clear improvement over Betty Draper, too!).

ps. I dig Peggy more and more, every episode!

Peggy is great. My favorite female character on TV, and one of the best overall. Well written, wonderfully acted, and probably would be awesome to hang out with if real. Points all around.

Put "I'm Peggy Olson" in Google and what do you get?

"I'm Peggy Olson and I'd like to smoke some Marijuana!" :haha:

That was the turning point for me.

I hope over time Don Draper, "gets it" and embraces the changing times (I think taking Little Sally to see the Beatles is evidence that this can/will happen) while Pete is stuck in the 50s as a compare/contrast figure for Peggy.

ps. I will always hate Pete for what he did to that stupid nanny...what a horrible human being he is. :fiery:

I completely disagree.....compare the the rest of SCDP Pete is like tree hugging hippie. He was completely uncomfortable in Roger's black face serenade, marketing advertising to minorities, and understanding what the Civil Rights movement means.

I also agree that forcing himself on the nanny was completely reprehensible. I just don't think you can write the character off after one bad act, when you have Don who commits reprehensible acts on a daily basis.

Pete was also one of the only ones in the office who thought Ali would win. He's ahead of his times a bit, in some regards at least. I agree with Brickhouse on that one.

Mad Men - SCOOP: Release Date for Season 4 on DVD and Blu-ray Disc

Not officially announced by Lionsgate yet, but available to pre-order from Amazon in both formats

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mad-Men-Season-4/14713

Back in early August we reported that Amazon.com had begun accepting pre-orders, at a discount, for Mad Men - Season 4 on DVD ($49.98 SRP), and also on high-def Blu-ray Disc ($49.99 SRP). We didn't have a release date for you at the time, because Lionsgate hadn't formally announced the title yet.

And the studio still hasn't announced it at this time, either, which is why we don't have package art or extras for you yet, nor any other details. However, one of our trusted industry sources has gotten a peek a the street date for this title, and they've given it exclusively to us! The scoop is that - at least as of this writing - Lionsgate's plans for Mad Men - Season 4 is to make it available on March 22nd. Now, please keep in mind that this is early and unannounced info, and could be subject to change. Stay tuned and we'll keep you updated, all right?

A little update:
AMC and the creator of the show Matthew Weiner have been going back and forth trying to make a deal for season 5.
Apparently the show has been green-lighted for season 5 and will star airing in 2012. So no new episodes for 2011

Christina Hendricks on "Dream Job" Mad Men: I Hope It Gets Settled Soon!

Mad Men is the best thing that’s happened to AMC. And Christina Hendricks was the best thing to happen to Mad Men. So why are they keeping our favorite vixen off the air?

Show creator Matthew Weiner and AMC have been butting heads so the new season of the hit show has been delayed until 2012. And understandably the cast isn’t thrilled about it.

“It’s my dream job and I love working there, so I can't wait to go back to work fast and I hope it all just gets settled soon. Because we’re all excited to go back,” Christina told Hollyscoop at the Vivienne Westwood flagship store grand opening in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Now that Mad Men is on hiatus she has a lot of time to focus on her second passion—fashion. The stunner was joined by her husband Geoffrey Arend as she showed off some pieces of the Palladium Jewelry Collection. With that figure she can sell ice to Eskimos!

“[The jewelry] helps a lot to get into character,” Christina confessed to Hollyscoop. “When we get dressed it helps to express ourselves through our fashion. Especially on Mad Men. Joan is very specific about her [style]. She has signature things like her pin necklace, and if its the holiday she has a turkey broach. They very much define that character.” Earlier this month, Christina was unveiled as the face of Dame Vivienne’s Palladium collection, a line she’s been a fan of for years.

“I have been a fan forever. I love that she's rock and roll. I love that's she couture. I love that she is literally like dress the sex pistols and also has bustles and corsets and things that you would never expect one designer to be able to do all at once,” gushed Christina.

As a fan, waiting for the new season of Mad Men has been torturous. So how has Christina been keeping busy? “Just finished a film but right now at Lincoln center so I've been singing and dancing. I’ve been in NY rehearsing and thanks to my husband for the encouragement. I haven't had this much fun my cheeks are hurting from smiling so much.”

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the smile is due to insider information about the show coming back sooner rather than later.

All these delays in Season 5 are a smokescreen--they've been negotiating with me to play Don Draper's new love interest. I know, while I look his age, everyone knows I won an Oscar (and not as a spring chicken I might add) before the actor who plays him was even born. Minor detail. Now that Liz bit the dust, that amazing lense is available from her White Diamonds ad. Yes, Don will be seen with a hot little redhead next season, and it's not Joan. I can't reveal any plot lines, but lots of smoking and drinking will be involved. And if Liz's lense is as good as they say, I might do a tasteful topless scene. I knew smoking and drinking would come back on vogue!! Wish me luck.

Good news below!! Such a quick turn of events :woohoo:

http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/03/mad-men-deal-done-matthew-weiner-returns-season-7-possible.html

'Mad Men' deal done: Matthew Weiner returns, Season 7 possible

You can now discontinue your "Mad Men" vigil: The show will continue to be run by creator Matthew Weiner for two more seasons -- and possibly even one more after that.

AMC and Lionsgate, which produces the show, announced the deal late Thursday (March 31). It includes AMC picking up the show for Seasons 5 and 6 with Weiner as showrunner. Lionsgate has also signed Weiner to a long-term deal that "extend[s] into a possible seventh season."

"I want to thank all of our wonderful fans for their support," Weiner says in a statement. "I also want to thank AMC and Lionsgate for agreeing to support the artistic freedom of myself, the cast and the crew so that we can continue to make the show exactly as we have from the beginning. I'm excited to get started on the next chapter of our story."

Season 5 of "Mad Men" is scheduled to air early next year, as AMC announced a couple days ago. A start date for filming has yet to be determined.

In closing the deal, AMC, Lionsgate and Weiner resolved a couple of sticking points over the show's running time and product integration. An insider tells Zap2it that the premiere and the finale of each season will run for 47 minutes, the average episode length in Season 4.

For the episodes in between, Weiner will have the option to deliver both 45- and 47-minute versions to AMC, which will then make the call (based on ad load, scheduling considerations and the like) on which version to air in its initial run. However, if it opts for the shorter version in a given week, viewers can see the longer one via on-demand and other viewing options.

As for product placement, Weiner will still have full creative control over what goes into the show, but unlike in the past, those brands will be able to play up their relationship with the Emmy-winning series.

It also appears that all of the reglar cast will be back for the coming season. AMC's press release name-checks all 11 regulars: Jon Hamm, January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Jared Harris, Rich Sommer, Aaron Staton, Robert Morse and Kiernan Shipka.

I've liked the Mad Men FB page and I'm now following them on Twitter so the possibility of me running into spoilers is high. I should've did all that AFTER I finish season 4. Oh well. I'm excited! I think one of my co-workers accidentally gave it away that Joan and the doctor are no longer together. He tried to clear it up but I think that's something that happens. I still can't understand why she stayed with him after he raped her, :o

Right now, I want Betty to find out that Don is sleeping with the teacher and have an affair and fall in love with Henry. She might as well. She'll never fully be able to pay back Don for all his transgressions anyways, That affair she had last year was stupid and a small act of revenge. She needs to have a full blown affair and see how Don will like THAT! Because yes, Don HAS to find out so I can see his reaction,

I finished season 4 last night and I was so disgusted with that finale. DON! You love Faye!!! WTF?! There is no way he is in love with Megan. No way. There is no chemistry between the characters and I had no idea where their "relationship" even came from. He loves her because she's good with his kids? Uh uh. I hope he didn't end up marrying her. We'll see tomorrow...

Exactly!!

I don't like Megan. I did back when it looked like she really wanted to work hard and get a position similiar to Peggy's, then she hopped into bed with Don and it was obvious she had other plans than proving to everyone how talented she could be with advertisement. Not to mention she has weird teeth.

I believe that was all a ruse to get in Don's bed. She came on to him and that was her plan all along. She didn't want to actually WORK,
