I don't know if any other pros have ever been asked about Tennis Forum / WTAworld, so I thought you all might be interested to see what Olivia Rogowska had to say about it, and her big following on here.

http://www.thedailyforehand.com/2009/9/1/1010210/the-daily-forehand-talks-to-olivia

If you were a pro with your own threads and such, would you read the boards here?

Anyhow, enjoy! :):wavey:

TDF: I donít know if you know, but you have a very large internet following, especially on one site, Tennis Forum (http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=319148). Have you seen or read any of it?
Olivia Rogowska: Yeah! Well, Iíve heard a lot about it. Iíve seen some things, and I really appreciate all the support I get from there. But I try to stay away from it as much as possible, because there are some negative things written there. But I really enjoy reading all the positive things written.

Thanks for the interview
Honestly, it can be hard for some players (teens and especially low ranked players) to come here and read. Some people here can be harsh. I'm talking about harsh on low ranked players because top players couldn't care less about what people think about them.

Interesting to hear players are aware of this forum! - it should be called WTAWorld though. :o The judge would have never agreed with WTA. A pitty that this journalist is respectfully - to the WTA - calling this board tennisforum!
BTW, when is finally virtual betting coming back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I met a few Aussie girls at the AO WC play off and told them all the Aussies at TF (then WTAWorld) supported them and wished them success for the Aussie summer. :p

I'm sure Serena doesn't give a damn and I think Michelle is an exception and I think she doesn't care too. The other young players, I don't think so.

Michelle is very tough mentally. She has great self-esteem, she wouldn't care about all the grunting crap. Probably she would even scream louder just to annoy them even more!

Never in doubt that she's reading it. While it may be hard for a top 50 player to find the board cause they have tons of links when you google their names, TF is always in top 3 of the google results for players outside top 100.

I know you didn't mean much by this, but this annoys me never the less. Olivia is Australian, not Polish, just with a Polish name. I have Indonesian and Serbian heritage, but there is no way I would call myself either of those. If you did every Australia, apart from Aboriginals would be considered from somewhere else. You might even say, Sophie Ferguson, oh another british lass, they are everywhere.

Again, know you didn't mean much by it, so sorry  That sort of thing just grinds my gears.

Smart words from Rogowska. After RG 2008, Ivanovic came to TF and read my comments and she hasn't been the same since then.

I heard from her she never spoke english at home, only polish but for me she's australian as long as she feels about it. :) She's as Australian as Jelena Dokić.

She could speak colours at home.
Simple fact of the matter is she was born in Australian, she lives in Australia, she is an Australian citizen and she plays for Australia.

Anyway, this thread should not be rotting into a cultural heritage conversation.
She should be congratulated for showing wisdom and maturity beyond her years.

Good luck tonight, Olivia :)

OK, take it easy! I've never said she's not an australian. Still she's not the same australian like Stosur, Dellacqua, Stubbsy. Here in Eastern Europe we have a bit different look at the nationality. We look rather at blood and not at the place of born etc.

Nice first set Dinara against #167 :tape: The question will be how Rogowska responds. Dinara can recover. Will Rogowska step up and close?!! Too early to count Dinara out for sure. Its best of 3 for a reason.

I sitll expect her to lose. However, regardless of what happens from here on in it's been a really promising showing. It's clear that she's a terrific ball striker, is a smart player and has a wonderful, positive attitude.

Just hang in there Olivia, all I want is for you to keep it respectable. :)

You can't just say she isn't as Australian as someone else, my friend has a Colombian mother and speaks Spanish at home..but again, would never ever call herself anything BUT Australian.

Olivia IS Australian, therefore it doesn't matter how Eastern Europeans look at Nationality, it matters how Olivia views nationality, and she (as an Australian) views herself as Australian with Polish ancestry, because she was born here, grew up here and has a patriotic connection with this country, that is all.

It is naive to call someone Polish, when they speak the language and have no deeper connection to the country. I can speak Indonesian, my grand mother is Indonesian, great..I'm Australian.
