View Full Version : Where Would You Like To See The WTA Bring an Event To or Bring Back?

I personally liked the Hamburg event, the Betty Barclay, and I think that the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix should be there in that stadium setting, it feels more like a big event, and they could eventually combine the men's tournament that goes there too.

I think that the WTA could use a big event in South America, develop more interest in tennis, or in Africa i.e. the South African tournament for the men. We should continue to open up new markets as a sport, and South America already loves men's tennis as is (obviously from the Argentine and Chilean success), that it would be time to have a few tournaments there with more successful players to put on display.

As for bringing an event back, I'd like to see the WTA bring back Doha. It was a good tournament!

I loved Antwerp and Zurich. I know there really isnt a place for either anymore, but we should at least get Antwerp back (synthetic!!!!!!)

I doubt we'll ever see Hamburg again on WTA tour...

Scottsdale.

It was a very pragmatic event. It gave a practical prep to Indian Wells, so it almost always had 8 or 9 of the top ten. It took the jet lag out of Indian Wells. It's a part of the country that has 'tennis weather' most of the year, and no tournament.

Oh YEAH!

I think that run of Memphis - Oklahoma City - Scottsdale - Indian Wells - Miami was the best scheduling ever!

I want the German Open back. They have some up and coming German players on the tour (Sabine Lisicki etc.) and they should definitely put a tournament back in Germany.
San Diego would be a good idea too.

I'd love another smaller tournament in Russia as well as South Africa. Maybe one in Croatia :D

Diamond Games Antwerp. It was one of the biggest tournies in the world, and officially biggest indoor tourn in the world. GS center courts compared, only USO's has more seats. The players were treated as if it were a TI, I know many players loved playing there. And last but not least, it had the most beautiful and expensive trophy!

One of the biggest mistakes the WTA made, especially with the popularity of both Venus and Serena, was NOT to have a tournament in Atlanta. It has the world's busiest airport, it's an Olympic town, and the citizens support every major sports franchise.

No reason why they shouldn't be a hardcourt tournament in the UK, SOMEWHERE in the season!

Okay, I think they should move the Gaz de France Stars in Hasselt into the Antwerp arena. That was an awesome stadium, and it had an awesome atmosphere, and now that Kim's back, it would once again get the Belgians back into tennis. Add in the fact that Wickmayer is playing well, and Flipkens COULD salvage her career here at the US Open.

Zurich and Antwerp. Those tournaments have some character unlike all the new soulless hard-court tournaments which look the same.

Would like to see a WTA tourney in London...but NOT grass, a different surface :hearts:

Also would like to see a tourney in Athens...should have happened after the Olympics...their stadium is beautiful!!!

Think the tournaments should represent the diversity of the Tour, not always be in the same places.....should have one in Serbia, a different tourney in Russia, bring back Antwerp, bring back Berlin and perhaps a smaller tourney somewhere like Kazakhstan...afterall, they do have a few players on the Tour!! :) (even if they did have to buy some of them lol)

btw - Most of all...would like to see the tournaments go back to the old tier system rather than what we have now...think it allowed more for smaller tournaments not just for big multi million dollar events.

The Antwerp Sportpaleis holds 14.000 ppl during a tennis tourney. (17.000 during a concert)
AO: Rod Laver Arena: 14.820
RG: Court Philippe Chatrier: 15.166
W: Centre court: 15.000
Sopot because I'm selfish and I'd be able to attend it
that is fair enough, at least you're honest about it :D

I want the Antwerp Proximus Diamond Games back
cause i had lots of fun working there, and also always enjoyed visiting it.
It's only 50 minutes from where i live even though it's not in the same country :p
