I hope she can bounces back off her injuries, but she tends to be sluggish when she first comes back. She squares off against a good player in Rezai. Ace her down Sabine! Easy on the Double Faults, Sabine! :)

Return the hell out of her, Aravane!

Players have major difficuly returning Sabine's shot. Just ask Venus, Kuz and Wozniacki. However, Sabine coughs up those Double Faults in bunches. If Sabine brings her A game, Rezai loses. :)

Having seen her 3 times in person, I would say the chances of Lisicki bringing any kind of 'A game' are substantially less than 33%.

Aravane has beaten players of much higher caliber, including Sharapova, Venus Williams and Safina. If she plays her game, IMO, she will win.

I feel like this girl has a lot of talent and I don't understand why she doesn't get more press out of the all the young players it's obvious she has the weapons to be a top 5 player. Unlike Wozniacki this girl has reached a slam quarterfinal already this year at Wimbledon. Hell even Cristea reached a slam quarterfinal yet Caroline has failed to deliver at the majors.

Sabine does not play well coming off injuries. This is the 2nd or 3rd time Sabine has missed time this year. If Sabine was at 100% I would disagree with you. Did you see the way Sabine beat Venus. Venus stated" I didn't know she could hit the ball so hard." She completely took Kuznetsova right out of her game. She has beaten Safina and Marion Bartoli. Last but not least, she seems to take the air out of Wozniacki when they play. Who is a better server than her? All Sabine has to do is swallow those DF's and her game goes sky high. She is one of the most electric players on the WTA Circuit. In fact even the TV annoouncers and color commentators love her game.

Too many injuries this year, but loads of talent. After she beat Caroline Wozniacki at Family Circle back in April, she won went home to play an exhibition match against fellow German mate Groenfeld, but was injured during the match, so she retired from the match.

She has reinjured the shoulder again recently, but she still beat Caroline once again, Kuznetsova and gave Safina a 3 set match at Wimbledon. Sabine is pure entertainment and the media in the USA loves Sabine and so do the American fans.

With Caroline, She may be my favorite tennis player, but she takes a lot of heat on this website with most of it justified. I am a tough critic of her game which lacks offense. :)

Lisicki is the only younger I see that has the talent to be top 5 or even number one. The rest depends on whether she can get the mental toughness and the discipline to become a champion.

Sabine hasnt played since.... Stanford? The chances of her coming back strong right away seems rather slim to me. I say 3rd round tops...

I would not be surprised to see Rezai take her spot in the 3rd round. ;)

If Sabine does not suffer Double Fault disease, she will win. Rezai is around 5ft 5" and Sabine is 5ft 11". If Sabine is on Rezai will have a lot of problems returning her serve. Sabine has hit a serve at 127, meanwhile they raved about McEnroe hitting serves at 115,lol. These big Russian players and the Williams Sisters would pound some of the old players I remember from years ago.

I always wondered why they say, when a player hits an Ace they calls it a cheap point. Think about it, how many women today have a great serve? Let me see if I can count them. How about the Williams Sisters, Petrova, Sabine and Klaybanova. Cisrtea has a pretty good serve along with Safina and when Kuznetsova is in the mood, she is pretty good. I would never call an Ace a cheap point. It's a luxury which most women don't have as part of their repetoire.

P.S- Don't let them get away with it Janko, shake them up, Janko!

She is playing in the US open, but she said she will not know how it feels until she is on the court. Go Sabine! :)

Lisicki has a big serve--when it goes in. But to say she has the best serve in women's tennis is a laugh. Would you honestly take her over Serena Williams?

As I said, I have seen her three times in person and her game seems very one dimensional. She does not move well, her groundstrokes are very inconsistent, and when she is not serving aces she seems to be average at best. Mentally, she does not seem very strong either. She could be top 10 someday if she improves, but I don't see her ever coming close to #1.

Rezai beat Venus on clay as well, btw. Aravane may only be 5'5", but she can run a lot better than Lisicki and hits much better on the run. She beat Safina a couple weeks ago--she is definitely capable of beating a player like Lisicki.

I stand by what I said. If Aravane is playing well, IMO, she should win this match based on form.

Whoever wins, I bet it will have a lot of UEs though.

I watched her play a very different type of match against Anna Chakvetadze this year. Keep in mind, Anna is a former number 6 from 2 years ago. Anna won the ist set, but Sabine won the next 2 sets by hanging on in long rallies and wiping out what appeared to be winners for Anna.

For the most part Sabine is a player that likes to shorten rallies. When she hits a few winners it seems to elevate her game. The key to her game is overcoming her Double Faults and the health of Sabine's shoulder. Sabine was already beating good players in 2008.

Tomorrow at 11am I can watch Caroline play and then catch the 2nd match on the other channel to watch Sabine vs Rezai. I thought the ist day was weak, but games and matchups will pick up by Friday. Go Caroline, Sabine and Sharapova. :wavey:

Sabine has 5 DF's in the first set, including the very ist point of the game against Rezai leading 3-2.
