Couldn't watch the match :banghead: But follow the live score a bit anyway.
Hmmm...hopefully she'll play better next round. She's actually the highest seed now :tape: :haha: Another typically amazing WTA tournament :rolls:

If my calculations are correct, beating Vesnina will bring her in top 8 in the race :D Her and Zvonareva (maybe Pennetta) are fighting for the last spot and this is Jelena's chance to gain on Vera.

I just read one Serbian blog and they say that Sanchez and Jeca disagreed about how she should play in the third set. He wanted her to play with more caution and she wanted to be aggressive. Basically, she didn't listen to him and won. Wonder what's going on with those two. They seem to argue a lot this year and Jeca is being a total bitch to her biggest fan - Mr. Sanchez-Holmes!

She is especially beautiful on that one, isn't she?

It's from a pal in flickr... Here's the link. You can even have it on supersize. CHeck for more of her there. Some people has great pics of her on flickr.

If Bartoli beats Pavlyuchenkova, and JJ beats Vesnina, they will meet in quarters. :fiery:

Can somebody please write something very very motivating and positive about the match so that I can believe and hope that JJ can win it?

Hopefully, because she was just so close to win it in straight sets in Stanford.

Go JJ!

Something positive?

JJ was close to win their last meeting, and i think that she improved from that last time in Stanford. JJ lacked a bit of stamina and consistence in it.

Since then, she had achieved some great results, beat top 10 players and won a title. And i think she is going to win this match, in 2 sets even, call it the average law.

OK so I should have a fairly unique take on this match here, one which is truly a mixed reaction even though I think to some of the more cheerleader JJ fans it might seem extremely negative, but he here goes...

JJ played extremely good tennis in the first set and like 10 games into the 2nd, though not quite "great." She was aggressive and I don't think I've ever seen her serve that well on a consistent basis, not in awhile. Lisicki's game was strewn with errors as well, though she'd alternate that with unreturnables. But JJ was the better player and had the match in hand.

The only issue was that, as some of you have noted she was grumpy, though I thought it looked more like apathy until the end of the 2nd set. At this point, errors started creeping into JJ's game as Lisicki rose her level. I have no problem with this, I've seen it before, but JJ's attitude was SO intensely negative by the end of the 1st game of the 3rd set that...

I had to turn off the match!

This is the first time I've ever done this, but I just could not bear watching JJ's body language and play after her ridiculous exchange with Ricardo. What I'm saying is...I think she played well, and she has nothing to be ashamed of even after a "picnic," but I really think she's just an unhappy person these days. Maybe the death of her grandmother just gave her yet another punch to the gut...I'm not judging her. But I don't think I can watch if she's going to be like this.

Congrats to JJ anyway, Lisicki is a tough, tough player to get a win over, let alone 3 in a row.

Bruno71
Sep 29th, 2009, 07:14 PM
I have to say I never thought Sabine played all that well...except maybe in a few GOATish service games. Her serve is apparently one of the hardest ones to read on tour, and JJ was having so much trouble with it at times. But I never thought Sabine really outplayed JJ...and a non-picnicky type player would've won it 63 64. But it's JJ, who can never be described as picnic-challenged.

:) Glad to see that JJ won.. i saw the last few games of set 1 and thought JJ was serving pretty good...

:o I then followed her on my mobile phone... when she wasted some BPs at 4-4 i knew she'd lose it 6-4.. but i was surprised to see her win set 3 so easily...

Glad to hear that JJ didn't follow Sanchez's advice and played aggressive in set 3..

Good win, Jelena!:yeah:

I can't believe Jelena is first match on tomorrow :bigcry:

That's like 5 am here .... I'm gonna miss all the drama and bitchiness :hearts:

Schedule is all over the place with the rain, huge backlog of matches to get through.

Haven't they been playing some of the matches today, indoors at another venue ?

Just for centre court. Not for another venue ;)

Yes, depending of the part of the world we are, it's not always easy to follow tournaments. AS for tomorrow (well, for me it's today) match, it will be a good time for me.. 10PM and hopefully and i can do to bed knowing that JJ won over Bartoli, and it won't be a dream but reality!

I don't think I will be able to follow this match tomorrow!

It will be very early here in Turkey, so I won't have any time to check the results on Internet as I will be leaving for school.

I am desperate to find a solution.

Hopefully, Jelena will win her match against Marion Bartoli - I hate calling her an "athlete" by the way - and when I come back from school, I will be celebrating it with you, guys!

I think someone mentioned ut before, but, it looks like there won't be any stream for JJ's match against Bartoli...

But all along I've always wanted Jelena to have a draw to play Cake. Once Venus got beaten - I was really hoping for this match.

Cake should have "got it" last tine - but she "got it" today. Order is restored. :bounce:

No matter what happens next, I just want to say I'm proud on our girl. She broke losing streak against three players this year, Li, Clijsters and Bartoli.

Plus, she seems so focused to getting to YEC. She's cut the schedule and managed to overcome some really bad results. The off season is longer, she'll have time to rest, to make out ( ) and to get prepared for next season and get back into upper top where she belongs.

After Wimbledon she start to play much better. She played Stanford not LA and she had week to rest before Cincy and Toronto. It's good selection of events.
Next year LA is out of calendar? San Diego in. JJ has house there or something but Stanford is better choice. More time to rest.

Focused Jankovic powers into Tokyo semi-finals
TOKYO, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Seventh seed Jelena Jankovic overpowered Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli 6-4 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Pan Pacific Open on Thursday.

The Serbian, who finished 2008 as the top-ranked women’s player in the world, never looked in danger of following the top six seeds out of the $2 million Tokyo event.

“It makes a big difference when my mind is on tennis,” Jankovic told reporters after beating Bartoli for the first time in their last five meetings. “I play at another level.

“So many things happened this year. My mum got sick and had surgery. Before my U.S. Open second round (defeat last month) my grandmother died.

“Tennis became secondary because other things were more important in life.”

Jankovic completed victory over Bartoli by forcing the 14th seed to dump a backhand into the net to end a point which neatly encapsulated their match.

A tournament which boasted nine of the world’s top 10 players has only two left with the world number nine Victoria Azarenka of Belarus playing later on Thursday.

World number one Dinara Safina, second seed Venus Williams and French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova all lost their opening matches after first-round byes.
