The challenge on the serve a foot inside the box two points from losing the match was just fucking awful - I think she deserved to lose for that shit. Anyway, she cannot convert winning game/set/match points and that is why she will always struggle. I really like Shvedova and hope she can go on from this.

Ok, US Open is already done for me...I don't care who win the title...There is no one left to stop Serena winning and that is not something I want to see. The only others who could possibly win are Dinara, Maria, Kim or Azarenka (NO!) unless Sveta saves us.

True. But why in a Slam. Why can't it be somewhere else?

At this point only Vika, Maria S. and Caro can save my US Open on the women's side. Although if Sexlana does take the title, that would be cool too.

I was really too empty to directly post soemthing after the match.:help::o
Well, let's face the facts, it totally fits to this season. Cincy clouded our eyes a little bit, but of course it was a nice win, no doubt. And we all had growing hopes in terms of the US Open, not even because she was a finalist last year and rankingwise it was very important to do well here, too. Well, safe to that this won't be the case and it makes her slam record for 2009 even more worse. Personally I declare 2009 as done and as an almost forgettable season for our girl. You can call it mediocre at best, but only because it is not over yet and she already has two tourny wins under her belt. But to be honest, the only positve thing besides the two wins is that she won't have much to defend at most of the tournaments and especially at the slams in 2010. But again, this early and shocking exit at the US Open totally fits to this season, were things went wrong from the very beginning. But it is also a periode of learning and I hope she has already learned her lesson to turn it around in 2010. So, let's hope for the better.

GO JJ:bounce:

p.s.: Just heard about it and it makes her loss totally unimportant, because sometimes there are more important things in life than tennis and of course my full condolences to the whole Jankovic family.:hug:

Jankovic was troubled with a tricky, all-court opponent, but also some personal issues that came up the night before: "I wasn't really on the court. My grandmother died and I was very close to her. I was very sad and emotionally I was really not on the court. I tried my best to be there and play, but it was really hard. I was really suffering. There are more important things in life than tennis. When you think about it, this is just a small event compared to somebody in your family who dies... We were all very, very close to her."

I can kinda understand how she did go out on court to be honest... when you lose someone in your immediate family, it's like something has been forced on you that is out of your control. And sometimes ... what you want to do is something that you can control (i.e. whatever it is you do as a living) simply because it's something YOU control. But of course it weighs on you... always.

I hadn't realised Sneki had gone, but thinking back we hardly saw any shots of Ricky or her team section.

And it would have been so much harder for JJ in way to NOT be with the family for the funeral etc had she won and gone on, although that would have been her driver to win I think. And she almost won. When she was up (6-4 I think) in the TB, the commentators were writing Shvedova off totally.

Anyway... what's done is done.
But she's also right - life will go on. Painfully... but it will go on.
I was never at all close to my grandmothers (never knew my grandfathers) but I remember coming back to work after 2 weeks when my father died, just because you need to be able to do something that YOU can deal with, after everything else has just happened TO you.
She'll come back... but next year. Hopefully faster, and fitter and more motivated.

This just sux so much. I wish someone puts a stop to this season right now.

I can understand Jelena's feelings. She is so close to her mother and I'm sure Sneki was the same with hers. Maybe it's the grandmother who was making all those pies and fatty food for her when she's in Serbia. I was practically raised by my granny 'cos both my parents had full time jobs. She died when I was 7 and I cried so so much. It really felt like I lost a parent. It's not the same for Jeca but she must have been close to her granny and this must be very tough on her. Especially 'cos she's such an emotional girl.

During the match I wondered why Jelena was so cool and almost emotionless. I thought it was 'cos she knew she would win in the end, but now I know better. All those smirks and empty looks towards her box make more sense now. It was as if..."ok...this girl really wants it, I'm sad, tennis is not that important right now..."

But, this loss hurts...still. I really thought she could go far at the Open. And the draw was opening just fine. She was playing well in the Series and I'm sure had this not happened she would have played much better against Shvedova. At least her usual hunger for the win and fighting spirit would have been more evident.

Group hug everyone , hopefully 2010 tennis season would be better for us.

She was so lucky to have been close to her grandparents. My parent's circumstances (different religions and emigrating to England) meant I saw mine... maybe you could count the times on one hand, for both!
but totally I know what you mean with the world crashing, Snezana... and it has brought me and my mother MUCH closer.

JJ is so close to her mother anyway - and I'm sure she, Marko, & Stefan will be a real source of comfort to Sneki at this time.

I wish someone puts a stop to this season right now.

I actually wouldn't blame JJ is she did ditch the whole season. I think the race has gone from her now.. maybe play the indoor season as a pre-empt to the off season training... we can understand if she doesn't play, and also if she does in the memory of her grandmother... either would be ok.

I was thinking she should think about doing this too. The only real thing she could fight for is a slot in the YEC, but I just think she could better use the time to make sure her family is OK, get herself in order, and think about how she wants to tackle 2010. I just don't know if YEC is something so worth fighting for at this time really, though I think if she chooses to go after that, she could get there.

In light of the news I am little surprised Jelena took to the court at all. Tearful telephone calls back home before the match. Re-watching some of the highlights last night all of the signs are there. She deserves enormous respect for at least going out there, competing and making a match of it.

I remember a couple of years ago receiving a phone call at work, out of the blue - that my father had suddenly died. I was a mess for about 30 minutes and then some kind of survival instinct kicks in. My immediate reaction was - must get through the shift, must get through the shift. And then I carried on for the next 6 hours, working my ass off like nothing had happened. I can only describe it as being in some kind of zombie state.

.
It really is a "survival instinct" - like autopilot.
I found out by text as I was driving home having been told subtlely by the hospital that my father had taken a turn for the worse and my mother needed me at the hospital now. My colleagues at work knew, I think, from that... because they quietly helped me pack my stuff and walked me to the car... Autopilot took on a new meaning as I drove that day for me....

Although I really don't WANT to - I will probably watch the highlights but I agree - in retrospect - looking back what was frustrating us all while watching was the usual "wake the fuck up" emotions in us.... No Mlado - back in training, Sneki flying back, so her usual rocks gone. Christ only knows what the current deal is with Ricardo... but I hope he was some source of comfort for her prior to the match and post-match.

But she was ajde-ing to her box from time to time ... so someone must have been there...?

I wonder if they will be a little more apologetic when coverage starts... I turned off before hearing Greg's ramblings...and got bloody Stepanek on ES, so gave up at that point.

What really brings it home to me about the wonder, at times, of our sub-forum... everyone sharing their own experiences of family tragedy.
The reason this is the most vibrant, most vocal (positive and frustrated) and one of the most popular forums in (w)TF... is that JJ is someone that her supporters can relate to... The people's champion and real #1? I suspect so

I hope she does play some tournaments this year and doesn't just pack it in for this horrible year for her both for her family and with what happened with her tennis starting with the failed bulking up experiment.

Of course she may decide she just needs time with her family the rest of the year with her grandma's death or just want put 2009 behind her or take a break somewhere or whatever.

But I'm hoping not. She's nothing to lose. No-one now will expect her to do anything and it would be wonderful if she came and won another tournament. And if she didn't do well it doesn't matter - the new year will still be a new year.
