As I said, story of her life. No balls so to speak and the queen of wasting. Sad but true.

You know, sometimes I think we're too hard on her. Some people just can't do it. I like to think she'll do it one day. Maybe she's not as talented/capable as we think, and she's just really human.

pj5

Everyone's disappointed, but in my opinion jelena could not have done better.

The fact is that she has lost confidence in her strokes over the course of this year.
They are at the level of a top 10 player, but not a top 3 or 4 player.
She knew that. And that's why she played the way she did.
She HAD to play within her limits.

I actually think that she did very well to hold her serve, to force Venus to serve for the match.
But of course if you have the champions mentality you'll win.
That's where Venus had the edge. It's an intangible asset.

However I still think that she's got the basis , "something" on which she can start with next year.
She'll start off the season as a top 8 player.
And if she does get the confidence back in her shots we may well see an improved Jelena.

So guys don't feel down on her too much.

You know, sometimes I think we're too hard on her. Some people just can't do it. I like to think she'll do it one day. Maybe she's not as talented/capable as we think, and she's just really human.

Well, as I always said, until she won't make any real improvements in her game, which means, forehand and serve, she will always have a very hard time to win a slam. Unfortunately this all comes along with a lack of the right attitude. That "go for it" kind of mentality, which is the difference between the champs and the contenders. Jelena is still a contender I'm afraid and it is about time to change it. Maybe she will never be a GS-champ and the truth is, that is will be most likely the case, but she MUST change something. The much needed impulse all great players had once in their career. It won't come overnight or by surprise and because of that, you MUST try to find that impulse. Jelena was always close, so it is her damn task to do everything. Otherwise she will look at her career some day and will be full of regrets. So Jelena, finally enter that "final train" and start your journey. A change must come and time is slowly running out. Next saison will decide which "epitaph" will stand on your stone so to speak. Choose the right way and go all the way. So...

So guys don't feel down on her too much.

I'm annoyed that she pretty much wasted the whole season and she's not getting any younger. And I definitely don't see her getting more motivated. With the mess WTA has been this year it could have been her time to shine, but no. She (and her camp) did everything wrong, right from the beginning. No, I don't think getting bulked up was her only problem. Bleh.

Now, that's more like it  It hurts and it sucks to think about all the could haves, all the possibilites wasted, but I feel like if you focus on those too much, even if she does continue to disappoint, you begin to lose sight of why you were even a fan of hers in the first place. I just try to look at the positives. Cool, she took Venus to 3 sets and had a chance to win, even if it was a shit-tastic match. She'll go have a long break, and practice. At this point, all I can do is place my trust in her. She'll be back. I truly do believe Irina will be gone next year too, btw, which I feel is a big part of her game coming undone this past year, which..I mean, she really has had a lot to deal with in her private life, so...

34 Ues over 3 long sets isn't that many.

It's just that she wasn't putting as much pressure on Venus as she could and should have. That allowed Venus to hit almost as many winners as UEs which, by Venus standards, is excellent statistic.

I guess Jelena was too nervous and that's why she hit those nasty dfs in the third set... I'll forgive her that, but that bitchy attitude has to go! Screw you Jelena, and stop screaming at poor Ricardo and Sneki. It's NOT their fault you're an idiot!

Apart form newfound bitchyness, I noticed "I-was-no1-now-I-play-bad-I-give-up-fighting" attitude this year. And the excuses. Ok, she had some tough things this year, but she kept saying that in, like, every single interview. You played bad, move on.

What didn't she say? :o She whined and whined and whined. She spends too much time on silly little things like arguing over challenges.

Oh, well, that's not really something new, she always argues with umpires, but whining, on the other hand...:o

Bleh.

That about sums up my feelings as well. Too many wasted opportunities.

Well, I don't think it has always been that way - once, a little spat with the umpire would additionally motivate her. Now her entire attitude has changed, she's become bitter for some reason - she seems to be pissed at both herself and everyone else. This current attitude annoys me more than any wasted chances, but then I think how she was really trying and giving her all in the beginning of the season and how desperate she was nothing was working out despite her best efforts. It's not like she just decided to keep her relaxed attitude and continue wasting chances. On the contrary - she actually tried to become a more serious player but everything went wrong and she lost her confidence. Her current bitterness might be the consequence of the great disappointment she suffered this season. She seems to be thinking ''well, I worked my arse off only to ruin my game, all that effort was worth nothing, why do I bother anymore?'' On one hand, I hate her for it (she should be able to overcome such disappointments and soldier on - Demented has been doing it for a decade), but on the other, I also feel sorry for her because she seems so lost and unhappy.

Both Jelena & Venus played crap in the 3rd set. And JJ's really unlucky at the match point :( But I guess she has had her share of luck in Round Robin  So I'm not complaining

BTW, that's the last match of JJ for 2009. 2009 is certainly not a good year compared to 2008  But let's rest well for 2010 :) I believe she's still got many good years :D

JJ should immediately stop hiding herself behind stupid reasons and blaming every other person but not herself. There's something wrong with her game. But she kept on saying those muscles made her slower... slower... slower... But we saw not many things changed after she got back to her old form. She is behaving like an idiot on court and mentally, It is always a disadvantage for her. She has to be positive. A little bit more.

One thing I realised is that JJ always looks so scared against those "big" players. We have seen some amazing shots against players whom JJ beat this year. But when it comes to big guns, JJ stops her offensive game, she keeps on hitting shots unconfidently. She needs confident. A bit of confident, and just a bit of more power.

JJ needs discipline. Do you really believe JJ does whatever Ricardo says to her? JJ is always playing her own game. All those notes Ricardo takes are worth nothing. I don't really believe JJ cares any of them. But she has to.

...and one last thing, if she really belives that her time will come - for sure - , she has to MAKE it come. It is in her hands. Not all those people she shoutes at during her matches.

I am actually satisfied by the end of this season. She could do even worse. Thanks God she won Cincy and it brought her back some belief that she can do it better. I hope that she'll be more careful with her preparations for the next season. She makes too many UEs, and she must fix that. She fought well today, but she made 2 DFs when the score was 3-3. This loss is just the price that she had to pay. Not to mention Venus' match point. :tape: She had lot of luck in her group, and this is just a boomerang.

But do you really think that she would listen to anyone??
Besides, I think her grudge with Ricardo might be ''I listened to you during the off-season and look where it got me!'' (which is completely stupid, of course, since they should just think back to the point where everything was working out fine and try to get back there)

I'm sure her mother's illness and losing her grandmother set the tone for the entire season and her grumpiness/unhappiness. But Jelena has to think to herself that her grandmother would have never wanted her to be so unhappy most of the time. And her mother was the one who told her to smile, you only live once. I think it's a shame that she can't move past her unhappiness, and I'm not sure a simple coaching change will do the trick.

Jelena needs to kick Irina to the curb, as I have, and have a productive off-season for a change. Get fit, but she doesn't need to be Arnold Schwarzenegger. Avoid nasal surgery. Have some fun. At least she might be a watchable player again at the very least

JJ actually did pretty well today. Had a real chance. Of course Venus helped her a bit. But much better than most of the year.

The only thing wrong with their coaching relationship is JJ's attitude . Ricardo is trying his best to give her advice, but she just whines about it. Even if she did get a new coach pretty quickly she would lose faith in his or her advice as well after a few losses. Basically with Ricardo she's barely listening because she's always thinking, yeah yeah, you gave me advice before and I was losing a lot then. Except all those losses were actually her fault, not Ricardo's fault. Seriously. She'll doublefault and stare over at Ricardo as if to say "why did you teach me to do that?" :o.

JJ can return to form. But she needs a new more positive attitude, not necessarily a new coach.

On the plus side I did think she played really nicely for about 2 and bit sets. Venus was sweating there. Just a bit of a lapse in the third cost her, really it was over once she lost her serve at 3-3. Overall her YEC was great, even though she had a lot of luck. Easily she could have been in the final, which would have been really unexpected given her recent form. So this YEC is more positive than negative for her.

It was great in the sense that she made the semi-finals. I've heard nothing to convince me that she would've qualified had she not encountered a completely hobbled player and another who'd run out of gas. This is pure luck of the draw, which is something we can all accept as part of the game. But I'm not going to mistake it for a particularly great showing on Jelena's part

But, I can agree there are some positives...She's back to being the pusher from 2007, meaning the defense is there. Now she only needs to get back that aggressive, winner's mentality from late 2008. I dunno, she overcame the physical problems, since she did play some decent matches in the last few months. But the psychological problem that's been created is obviously going to be much more difficult to completely overcome.
She has to start from the beggining - no matter what she says, when she's on the court it's clear that she doesn't believe in herslef anymore. It'll take some time, but if she decides that she wants to continue competing at the top, she'll be ok. I'm just worried that she might give up if the results don't come soon enough.

I feel like the pressure probably wasn't quite as great in the match today. OK, first of all :hysteric: I'm trying out this new "no expectations-no disappointments" approach and lemme tell you, it's bollocks. Doesn't work at all, I still feel like tearing my hair out after watching that mess.

I think I somewhat agree with Optima, JJ is never gonna have a killer serve or FH, she's largely formed as a player and a defensive/counterpunching one. She's only capable of stepping out of that comfort zone when she's at the top of her form/confident enough and that's obviously not the case now. We've seen her go out there with an all-out aggressive game plan this week against Vika and it didn't look good at all. So, I'm not sure she could've done anything differently today when it comes to her game plan, she had a choice between gift-wrapping the match to Venus by playing the way she did against Vika or hoping Venus was tired/injured/inconsistent enough to gift-wrap it to her. Didn't work out, but if she went the aggression way we would be talking about her mindless ballbashing losing her the match now.

Having said that she sure as hell should've been able to get herself into good enough form not to have to face that choice for more than 2-3 tournaments this year. :fiery:

I'm not sure how I feel about Ricardo. Fact that their relationship once worked doesn't mean it always will and that he should keep his position until the end of the days. I don't think one can give a coach free pass in situations like these either, he DID come up with that brilliant off-season regimen or at least approve it, plus failed to lift his player out of the funk for full season. Whatever it is that he's doing is obviously not working and I wouldn't mind seeing somebody else try. At least it would infuse some new energy and shake things up a bit at a time when Jelena seems fed up with tennis. I was looking forward to her getting a new coach this spring when those rumors about her firing Richie appeared and that kung-fu guy did a good job with her serve, I thought. If Jelena doesn't trust or respects Richie for whatever reason, he needs to be replaced by somebody who's gonna have that trust and respect.

It's NOT their fault you're an idiot!JJ did not seem nervous except maybe right at the end. Her play was so inconsident (as it always is), she started off playing really well, going for her shots and then she backed off and just put the ball in court but this tactic worked well when Venus was making errors. Venus really played an average match and JJ just did not take advantage. Whenever JJ got ahead in a set she just started to play poorly and let Venus back into it, however, JJ did play pretty well without too many errors but her back hand was now working as it usually does. The luck went with Venus today but JJ seemed like she really did not care if she won today, if she had cared then surely she would have won against such a lacklustre Venus.

Different Coach... Not letting people back in the game... consistent aggression... Better net play...all of this and more could help unlock the potential that we know she has.
Younger players are coming up behind - but they are not invulnerable as this injury-clusterfuck of a tourney has shown.
She has time (IF she wants to still do this)
If she doesn't - that's cool too.

Well 2009 is over now for Jelena. I'm glad she made it and played in the YEC though and ended it with a 3-settewr against Venus. I wasn't expecting anything so I'm not that unhappy with what she did there.

Yep - it was annoying Jelena losing her serve so much in the third set - and those DFs on two of those games she lost her serve. But I think it must be stressed how difficult it is for all the players in that heat. The odds are you are going to get errors and scrappy 3rd sets. Neither Venus nor Jelena looked good in that set - and then it probably goes to the player with the stronger serve who can win a few cheap points. I really don't like it being at Doha.

yes there is rule about one top 10 player at internationals.

Serena will not play week before Sydney
Dinara -brisbane
Venus - HK
Elena -hopman cup
Wozniacki- HK
Azarenka- HK

Sveta? she don't like MM events

so Auckland would be great for Jelena

Say that again, please! Man, we just soooo hope for that. Auckland hasn't got a top 10 player yet, the whole Serbian community will go crazy to see her again. :lick:

Havent you heard? He is soon to be crowned King of Tennis Forum.

Any good monarch will tell you .... empire's need to built and solidified, disobedient populaces conquered all through the exercise of executive power.

I suggest we refrain from any messy civil wars and surrender to The King's font of moral greatness.

All Hail King Reetard

Jelena:sad:

She did not play well in SF vs Venus. Often horrible serve!:help:
Too many unforced errors! Jelena`s forehand was shockingly weak.:o
But to reach SF in YEC is quite a good result.:yeah:
(Although Jelena was a bit lucky to get there.)

IMO Jelena played her best tennis in 2009 in Cincinnati/Tokyo!
Hope she will stay healthy in 2010!:)
Then almost everything is possible!

She won't! If we all vote (or most of us anyway) she'll have a lot of positive votes and just as many negative, as usual. After all she's the greatest diva wannabe after Serena. These results should surprise no one...

She's a spoilt princess, there's a difference. She can be bitchy at times when things aren't going her way, but normally she's light hearted, kind, nice and bubbly person. Let's try to keep the hate jokes down... at least until she starts pissing us off again next season.
