Hi Smoothstuff:wavey:
Welcome to Jelena's forum.:) Despite the fact that this isn't the best of days for us and Jelena, I hope you will have a lot of fun here.:D

Greetings,

Thans very much guys :) :wavey:
I think i'm going to have a great time here!
Yeh today was disappointing but when JJ was walking to shake maria's hand, maria had no idea what was going on and JJ was like 'Hurry up and shake my hand bitch' That cheered me up a bit :)

:)
Although I raised the conspiracy theory, I in fact am a non-believer of these, and actually hate them.
Really this final doesn't bother me too much.
I think that she'll come out of it very well (provided of course that she's healthy).
It really was not a match to "die for" as far as Jelena was concerned.
It definitely meant much more to Maria.
And as far as Maria carrying on about winning grand slams .... mmm, we'll see.
As Jelena said famously about bartoli (and it may apply in this case) .. "She's gona get it!
Looking forward to future rivalry.

I'd like to add something to your theory. :) She probably decided to retire if she concludes that the match can be longer and that she'll play 3 sets, which wouldn't mean that she'll win, and she'd waste her energy that she needs for Beijing. She definitely has some problems with her wrist and shoulder, and decided to save some energy for Beijing, probably satisfied with her Tokyo result. I'm satisfied, too.

And I agree with Bruno, she's totally scared of taller players, especially hard hitters. I don't know why, perhaps she should have asked Justine how to deal with them since Justine haven't had that problem with them even though she's as tall as me.

What do you think about JJ' s position on returns?
she is on or close baseline even on players 1st serve . She never goes back. Of course she is one of the best players in that part, but i think she will win more points if she go little back on 1st serve. When you are back you have more time to react.
she wants to put pressure on players, but i think she is too close when serena, venus ... are serving first serve

So she's playing?:speakles:

She'll try for sure unless it's a really serious injury. Her goal is to qualify for the YEC and she needs points for that. Especially now that Vera got a cakewalk draw (compared to Jelena's) in Beijing.

she is a local singer in HK. At first look, I don't know why I think this is Jelena, especially her hair and her face. I remember Jelena poses like this in one pic but I forget which one.

I don't think this injury can be that serious despite Jelena's dramatization after the match. From what I've seen it's not about the wrist itself, but about a muscle bit above the wrist. She was demonstrating it hurts when she moves the wrist. She didn't fall or anything, she probably strained a wrist flexor muscle after mishitting a ball. At least I hope that's what happened. Something like that happened to me when I was playing tennis with Ma. During warm up I hit a heavy top spin forehand from an awkward arm position and felt sharp pain in my upper forearm. It was bothering me each time I hit a forehand, but I played through it and it was fine after a day or so. Also, her facial expression wasn't really painful. It looked like it was just nagging her, hurt a bit of course, but only when she applied pressure to the wrist.

http://jimmysmithtraining.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/bigger_forearms.jpg

She was smart not to continue the match so she can make sure that it's not a serious injury, but it would be weird if it was. Also this win wouldn't mean much to her if she wasn't able to play for the rest of the season.

Well I hope you're right. Has Jelena been diagnosed and told us what it is yet with her injury?

дalex
Oct 5th, 2009, 09:25 AM
Well I hope you're right. Has Jelena been diagnosed and told us what it is yet with her injury?

Yeah, I hope I'm right too. Of course, playing at that level is much harder on the body and nowadays players tend to play more to Jelena's forehand. The question is can her right arm withstand all that pressure?

She hasn't said anything about her injury yet, but from the photos and the tape position it's obvious that it's a muscle injury above the wrist.

Hopefully that injury will heal in time for Moscow, but even if not, it's really not the end of the world, she's won bazillion of these smaller tournies by now, gotten as far as possible on the ranking list, just bloody make sure you're healthy and ready to play your best at slams...Beijing, Shmeijing

Yep - agree with that. Even if she'd won - she was in no state to play the next round. The main priority should be to get her wrist/arm OK now. Time to forget the YEC which she'd set her heart on. I really don't want her risking a long term injury at this stage and just to concentrate on 2010 now.

It is really frustrating that just when she's started to play well this year - she gets this. But at least with Jelena's play recently - there must be realistic hope that she's out of her terrible slump earlier this year and that's not permanent.

It's that Jelena plays with her heart. If there is a chance to finish this season on a good note she'll go for it. Injury or no injury. Without YEC participation this season will officially be wasted for her. Only 3 finals, a semi and few QF finishes. With her abysmal record at GSs and mandatories she probably doesn't even deserve to play at the YEC. That's why she's trying so hard. Not to mention the possibility of ending the year outside top 10 after she started it as #1.

And if she doesn't qualify for the YEC she will have to play Bali. It's mandatory for those who qualify to play there. This season is far from over...

I don't understand what the point was of her standing on court crying. It's an early round at a tournament that may be a mandatory but really isn't all that important. She should have just withdrawn right after retiring the Tokyo final, but I guess every single tournament is just too important to her, from S'Hertogenbosch to Beijing.

I, for one, am going to be hard on her for this. You DON'T risk your health for a stinking tennis match, especially if it's not at a slam. What were you thinking JJ

-Valérie-
Oct 6th, 2009, 05:44 PM
I think we tent to give not enough importance to other tournaments. Grand Slams are the best maybe, but those tournament counts and make a difference in the ranking. The all tour is important, that it is why it makes the grand slams so precious. Why would it be so precious, if the rest of the tour weren't meaning anything. just a thought...

I guess she wanted to win that match, and withdraw, so, it would give her some points, and will help keeping that place #8 for the championship. And the sponsor might have pressure her a little.

BUt really, some tears maybe, but she fought with all she had on that day, and we have to give her credit for that. For her it is important to have that place #8 to prove to herself that despite that bad year, she was among the best anyway.

I hope she will recover from that injury and she will do a great tournament in Moscow.

Nothing, even a slam, would be more important than risking her health. You talk of ranking points and I can add money into that equation, and both add up to what amounts to hubris at best, and pure greed at worst. It's decisions like these that make me feel like Jelena will, indeed, never win a slam, because her priorities are so out of whack.

I'm not disagreeing with you here... but we're talking about a woman who's been having "career threatening" injuries throughout her career. The year she started by not wanting to die from painkillers overdose turned out to be the best of her career. The same year she injured her knee at Wimbledon and said she wasn't even able to wear high heels, had more injuries at the Olympics, but went on to reach the USO final.

And the line "I couldn't even hold my racquet" is all too familiar as well...

Oh yes, yes, you are right. I agree with that completely! Healt is more important then anything. I wasn't talking about her situation in particular, i was talking about slams and non slam tournaments in general and how important each tounament are.

A champion is a champion at heart and i really do think the rest of the season was important for her confidence, but i am the first one to say that she should have not play that tournament, so, i was trying to understand her. In the past, she played with some injuries in did good anyway. Only her knows the gravity of her wrist.

BUt, she will win a slam, just because she is stubborn!
