Since Dina's next tournament is just under two weeks away, I think we can start the thread now :help:

Last Slam of the year, top seed, let's bring it all Dina! :bounce: She has SF points to defend, let's hope the draw is kind!

So many new threads! :p thanks Cara, you're first thread from what I can see so far :yeah:It's funny, because I thought that I noticed a sort of beautiful, horny ambience in the air this morning......and now I know why:p.Welcome back!:smooch:(P.K.)

Just to prevent you from further embarrassing ol' Blighty's school system, you should have told Cara "...YOUR first thread..." cuz,the way you phrased it means "...You are first thread so far..." I'm pretty sure that--even in your dizzy,watching-shirtless-Marat condition--you didn't mean to say THAT:lol:

Well, ladies and Norby,I hate to bring you the bad news that Serena just got her tail kicked.Even in the first set, which went to a TB,she was broken three times including when she served for that set.I've been watching that chunky tigress for years now,and we'd have been better off if she'd won Toronto. What makes her weaker than Graf was is that she struggles to maintain her intensity and often drops her level after a big title.HowEVER,she has a way of psyching herself up and using losses as motivation...it's part of her effective mindgames.Even if it's only a couple talking heads who count her out, she'll use that to fire herself up....This could get ugly for the rest of the field at the USO:eek:

so, the DinaCoaster or someone once said, Team Coconut, aka Pinky and the Brain try to take over the worl... Flushing Meadows! (with a thirdwheel. Thats Marko, the guy with the best job on the tour. he's the only sane in the team.)

Can they finish the damn thing, or they fail miserably again? we'll see... stay tune!

i don't think this is a "mindgame". she isn't that smart. she just don't give a shit. her ego can't stand these poor paychecks or the 15sec in the localnews. She wants in big. Big check and big primetime TV spot. thats how she rolls.

anyway, imo USO has 3 real contenders, these tournaments didn't change anything.
Serena, Venus and Dina. 60-20-20%.

I was so glad to see Lena D take this one! ESPN showed it since SW was playing of course.. And Lena looked really good. And on the itw after the match she said she was looking for this re-match since Wimbledon! An all Russian final!

And on the itw after the match she said she was looking for this re-match since Wimbledon! An all Russian final! So you can honestly say that Lena outplayed Serena??I ask you this because you can rarely rely on Serena to give an honest assessment of why she lost. There ARE lots of times where she loses b/c she played like crap with lots of UEs,but she DOES get outplayed on occasion,too....You just can't tell by SW's pressers since she's notorious for being chock full o' excuses.

Yes today I think Lena outplayed her. She only had few DFs, dictated points from the baseline, and really only choked once when she was serving for the 1st set. Yes Serena made some UEs but Lena hit a lot of winners.. Serena wasn't moving that well. Did you get to see the match?

maybe i'm stupid, but i'm rather positive lot of times before the first coin flip. i won't give more chance to Serena or Venus, coz everybody has to win 7 match to win the tournament, it's not a walkover, not even to them. and other contenders? who? maybe i'm blind, there is nobody besides the top3. so I HAVE TO give some chance to the CoconutCoaster.

But this year she has no shape:shrug::explode:

Excuse me ? I have to disagree with that , she's in good shape , she just can't seems to be able to play well for three matches in a row but that's not that big of a deal

Don't forget that in her last 6 tournaments she lost only two times before the SF ! We're not used to it but it doesn't mean that she's gonna lose in early rounds all the time from now on !

She's a fighter and sometimes she doesn't fight when she should but she's not going to give up because she had a bad lost last week .

I'm sure that in her mind she believes that she can win the USO and i do too even if she's not the same Dinara that she was last year .
The difference is that this year she's like a bird she wants to fly away but everyone is trying to shoot her on her way  She's the one to kill not the little bird that everyone used to watch in total awe thinking that at some point she was going to ran out of gas , but she's still here unlike the Serbian girls who had a great run and then went down slowly but surely .

But i'm proud to be a 'fan' of her because she's holding on and she's far from being done !
And even if she lose in the second round or in the final at the USO , my faith in her will still be there because in the end i didn't signed any contract saying that i'll support her only when she wins

All of this to say : i'm not sure she'll win but i'm not sure she'll lose either

Well I wouldn't worry too much about her defending her SF points anyway, Dinara has turned into almost a machine in her ability to grind out wins en route to grand slam semis and finals. She just refuses to lose any earlier.
I don't think there is any "nightmare" draw for Dinara, I don't think she would be as vulnerable to the upset loss vs Clijsters or Sharapova as the other top players because they can't both outhit and outrun her.
It's going to be an interesting tournament and I hope that whatever happens, a first-time winner is crowned (ie. Lena or Dinara)

i'm only afraid of Dina's mind. there is nobody in the draw, who is clearly a "nightmare" for her. Except maybe Tammy T.
but if she doesn't shit the pants and plays well (or okay-level), she can bet the majority of the girls. real challenge maybe other top4 seeds.
The problem is that her brain messed up, a lot. if she can't change herself, she's gonna screw up things like she did in the past year.

Tammy is only her nemesis on grass or rather at Rosmalen. She will want some revenge against Zheng. She has shown that she can handle Kim and if she does have to play Sharapova it will be a contest of DF's but I think that Dina can handle Masha. Maybe what she needs is a tough draw so that she actually has to play. I just hope that regardless of the draw she goes out there confident and plays the way that we know she can.

I agree , sometimes it looks like when it seems like an easy match , unconsciously she's not into it and doesn't play at her best level . She said it multiple times that she has to be down to finally Play !
Her tactic when she played Kim was a good one , playing her like she was a Top 10 player , in my mind she should do that all the time ! Play with the same mentality she had in the early rounds of RG , not willing to give out any points !

Dina please just focus , play your game and leave ! We can deal with seeing you play just one hour every two days , don't be too generous with us and your oponents :p

Surprise, yeah, she's only been #1 for like 4.5 months now. It's a real shocker! Oh, ESPN.

Her draw is okay, I think. I would have traded Elena for Venus, but hey, the draw is what it is and she's gotta get through it. That's the point of the tournament. My expectations are honestly not very high for her, mostly I'd like to see her show some signs that she's been working on changing her game and being more independent. Anything else is bonus for me at this point.

I figure if it was going to happen we would have heard by now. Although, they are a private sibling duo. :)

I tend to have mixed feelings about it. I'd love to see it for my own personal selfish reasons. However, I think her playing doubles with big bro would put a whole new layer of stress on her. Most players would play doubles with their brother/sister to relax, have a little fun, play with the crowd, get some practice in. Not Dinara.

Hi all! I wanted to share something cute I found on the Gulbis page on MTF.. From Fedfan who is at the USO:

"Dina: So Dinara came to Marat and Ernie's court to warm up. Marat and E were sitting on chairs, and Dina leaned down to kiss Marat hello, and Marat pulled away. Maybe because he was sweaty, maybe because he's a cool big brother. She was so cute, because when she went down to sit next to Ernie, she went, "HI!" to Ernie. IDK, it was the way she said it. And how she was grinning And E just did one of those cool-guy-across-the-club head nod and smiled at her. And then proceeded to talk to Marat. I was just cracking up inside."

Anyway, she looked really cute, very popular with her little section, she was trying to leave and someone grabbed her hand and pulled her back down to talk for a few seconds. Brad Gilbert is being surprisingly nice to Dina  He's all "important thing is that she won and she has a chance to correct her problems" He must be on medication because usually he hates on her.

because that would be so good, everybody gonna start how she couldn't keep up her ranking, and she is just a one-summer-hit, blah-blah. that would give her so big confidence, for sure.

Brad Gilbert just expressed his extreme displeasure at Z. "He needs to be positive or she needs to stop looking at him" "She just needs a hug and for him to tell her it's okay, you got through it, tomorrow will be better" Who knew that Gilbert would be on Dina's side

i saw Barrois against LenaD, AO. almost kicked her out, but choked 5-2 lead 2 times...
nice serve - kick or slice. stronger forehand, backhand mostly just slice, not the best mover.
Dina has to pummel the BH side and NO PUSHING!

I have actually taken the whole day and have come to the conclusion this is probably an ideal first round for Dina.
In most tournaments she ends up doing well at, she struggles early on.

Vinci was the most recent in Cincinnati, and I think once she realises she's almost pissed it away she'll step it up to top 10 level.

Davai Dina, or God help us all

Brad Gilbert has his moments. I remember during the RG Semifinal when he kept threatening to go beat the crap out of whoever in her box kept screaming "MONEY!!!" Anyway, I agree with him, too. Lighten the fuck up, Zeljko.

oh, an her behavior was the best... disgustng "come on" after every Rogowska error. she has no confidence and she thinks this is the right way. but she looks more like a total idiot. Ivanovic did the same disgusting shit. these girls are so one-dimensional and delusional, can't even recognize who are they and what are they doing.

She is now also having these desperate "come ons", like Ivanovic. They are not confident "look how great I am" ones but "I am going nuts about every point I win no matter how".
