Update: See post #8

I've only driven three times, each for an hour after obtaining my permit. Now I am scared because I don't want to fail my test!! Any tips and suggestions for what to be aware of during the test? I need to pass this and get a car!!!

Maybe you should wait a bit before taking your driving test? Drive a bit more?

Also, your state probably has pamphlets on what you will be tested on during the test.

Not American but finally got off my P's yesterday (phew)!

Drive more before having the test, don't speed, stick below if anything, try not to panic too much.

It's been a long time since I took my test but the more experience you have driving the more confident you'll be because the DMV officers are not the friendliest in the world. Also, make sure you always physically turn and look before backing up. In most states they will automatically fail you if you don't. Also do lots of parallel parking and practice driving in the car you'll be testing in.

Here's a good link. http://quazen.com/recreation/autos/why-do-people-fail-their-driving-test/

I don't know about other states but in New York you need 20 documented hours of driving before you can take your road test (if you're under 18). You should practice driving a LOT more anyway.

Don't forget to drive slow upon entering the parking lot after you finish your test. They failed my brother after he went more than 15 mph back into the parking lot.

I remember having a clean car makes a difference

My friend failed for taking his hand off the wheel when signaling so just use your pinky/ring finger.

I passed the test on my first try! The whole thing was so simple. After waiting for three hours at the DMV, the instructor told me to start the car and turn on the emergency lights, then make the left and right signal. We then reversed and I did not have the emergency brake all the way down :tape: so the car started beeping and I asked him what was wrong. We went around the parking lot of the DMV before getting to the roads.

After pulling out of the DMV parking lot, I had to make a right turn to the main road, and I immediately went for the middle lane (it had three lanes) because I wanted to be on the safe side. I slowed down after he told me that I could not do that - he said "If you're going from lane 1, you must go to lane 1" - so I should have turned to the most right hand side of the road. At that point, a car honked me from behind. I thought, "Oh no, not another mistake!"

We passed only one traffic light and went around a two-lane street for less than a minute before we reached the DMV again. I parked and he left the car. When I followed him, I asked him if I passed the test. He said nothing and I did not know if that was a good or bad sign. His only response was to wait for my name to be called. I waited for ten minutes and was finally called. Then, I asked the clerk if I passed the test. She was surprised the instructor did not tell me if I passed or not, but upon looking at the documents, she said that I passed :) I fist pumped Ana Ivanovic style to my friend who was waiting in his chair for over three hours.

In sum, I cannot believe that I passed the test. It lasted like five minutes and it was so easy!

I passed 2nd time - and even then only in an automatic which means I can't drive a manual car. A real pain in Europe when trying to hire a car as most in Europe are manual! And cheaper!

Haha congrats!
The test sounds a bit dangerous though! Haha

I passed the first time myself (in a manual I must say ) and I remember how nervous I was! Fortunately I was really lucky and didnt need to make a parallel parking! (Thank God! Otherwise I would never ever get my license!)

I was the on the only right lane anyway, so when I didn't see any cars coming I turned to the right into the middle of three lanes. Anyway, the DMV had already closed at that point and I think they just wanted to be done since it was a Saturday :)

Congrats :yeah: A car honked at you and you still passed?

I passed mine on my first try on Friday February 13th this year. It was raining. I walked under a ladder the day before and slept with a black cat the day before. ;)
But it lasted around 30 mins.

You do sound like a danger on the road. Please go read your driving manual again. :tape: And practise in some secluded alleys.

omg,in greece everyone passes their driving test because it is a tradition to bribe the examiner beforehand.you pay 150-250 euros and you can pass the test no matter the little mistakes.you can also pass without paying, but it is really difficult and the majority chooses to bribe the examiner.i'm sad to post bad things about my country but it's the truth

It seems that no matter what you do, you can pass the driving exam in America :help:
I feer for yuo people who live near him :scared:
Here in Poland you have to take 30 driving hours before you can take the exam and also you have to pass a theoretical test. It's pretty hard to pass it in general, I passed on my second attempt though.

This is seriously :help::help::help:
Take some extra lessons because if you confuse gas with breaks :help:
Also the thing with emergency brake :crying2:

Well, if for easy driving test, you should watch this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGfLNqjh4j0

Anyway lets talk about how hard is getting driving licence in your countries. In mine, you first have to take written exam, then you go to training (some 30 hours) and than you take the driving test. Which, as I recall is made from two parts.

First on testing grounds, where they test stoping (forward, then reverse), three kind of parkings (not sure how they are called in english, but it should be like parallel, then with an angle, and last, when its 90 degrees to the street). And, last part of this is starting with your hand brake up on steep ground.

Second part of driving test is just driving on the streets.

Oh yeah, we also exclusively use manuals. And I passed this from first :)

Well done Barboza.....I think?

One of my friends went straight through a stop sign on her 1st try = FAIL.

Another friend hit a car while executing a 3 point turn = FAIL.

20 and 30 hours driving before you can go for you lisence is NOTHING.

Here in Victoria, Australia...you are required to do 120 documented hours before you can take your test. You need to write down the time, your mileage, the road conditions, your supervisor drivers lisence number, their signature and what type of roads you drove on. :weird:

5 mins? That can't be safe :help:

Here the test lasts 30 mins and you have to do 3 manoeuvres. I failed twice (:o) but by the third time i'd certainly had enough practice

There's no way i'd be ready after three hours driving.

It looks it will be better if I go in India. :) There I will maybe pass driving test on first try. :inlove:

I have 9 hours of driving and it will be interesting to see how much I will need it to go driving test. :) My instructor finished my last driving hour with words: "Everything was OK, except this that we almost died twice." :tape:

Yeah, uh..it should be your own responsibility to practice and not get your license until you know the road and think you're an alright driver. Jesus. It's really not a joke.

Yes I took the theoretical test and passed it the first time. You have to score 10/10 on the signs portion and at least 20/25 on the theory portion.

Today I'm starting the courses for my driving licence, if everything goes well I'll take it in 2 months :bounce:

The school car will be a Ford Fiesta diesel :)
6 hours i'll be driving outside the city limits and the rest until 20 in the city...
