Excellent result. Congrats to both girls. This is where I start to get excited. Semi finals is a great result but to be honest it's what I expect. Monica has been setting very high standards and this is where Monica and Akgul belong. :bounce:

Next match will be against the world number ones Black and Huber, who Monica defeated with Jung-Yan Chan two weeks ago. Tough? For sure. Winnable? Hell yeah. :rocker:

As for this match, well it could have and should have been much easier as Akgul and Monica were basically on top the entire match without being successful taking their opportunities. They somehow managed to lose the 1st set despite winning more points and having 9 break points to their opponents one lone chance. But they failed on all the big points in that set and at 3 all in the 2nd it was looking ominous. Thankfully team Akgul/Monica were (aside for that one bad game) virtually untouchable on serve today and that got them through in the end. Akgul and Monica won 77% of points on serve today (I'm sure Akgul must have been serving awesome) and similar numbers tomorrow will be VERY welcome. :yeah:

Really like this partnership of Akgul and Monica! :worship: They played for the first time last year in ITF 100k Poitiers and got to the final, then went on to get to the final in ITF 100k Bratislava the following week. From their first match together thought they were a great team, so VERY happy to see them team up again here!!! :D

Yep Monica has an unusual game and is a very talented doubles player...but please don't underestimate Akgul as a doubles player....remember she won Eastbourne with Sugiyama this year, then won the ITF 100k Cuneo doubles title and got to the final in ITF 100k Biarritz the week after...so she's a great doubles player in her own right too!!! :hearts:

Match against Huber & Black will be tough..but I agree...VERY winnable! :yeah: They probably will be a bit nervous at the start because it's gonna be a big match but as long as they can keep that under control and hold serve...definately think they can win it! :)

:bounce: Go Akgul & Monica!!! :bounce:

WOW Akgul is turning a really fantastic doubles player :D

First saw her play doubles last year at Wimbledon and even then you could see she had huge potential to be a great doubles player!! People always say she is just a baseliner or that her serve is the only thing she has...that is SO not true! I've always said that her strength was up at the net...her volleys are incredible, great angles, beautiful touch, very instinctive player :hearts:

Not sure if any of you got to see any of her matches with Ai in Eastbourne but Akgul was incredible in all of them!! The partnership was definately equal.....Ai with her speed around the court, her knowledge and experience...and Akgul up at the net making some of the most incredible shots and both of them were really having fun! :D

So yes, I agree Akgul IS a fantastic doubles player!! :yeah:

Great stuff from Monica and Akgul. :hearts: Yes they have both become superb doubles players, it's exciting for the doubles tour to have new names coming up, and these two in particular have started to now make an impact in the bigger events. Here in Cincy they are in the semis, Monica just made the Stanford final and LA semis (indeed it's her 4th straight SF now), and Akgul won Eastbourne, a Premier title.

The match vs Black/Huber should be a close one. I like both teams so just hoping they each play well. Monica has beaten them twice on hardcourts this year with other partners so no reason why she can't do it with Akgul too. :bounce:
