Yeah, not a good draw, the second round will almost certainly be Masha, and Anna has never beaten her. :o Hopefully she can beat Sybille though. Sybille is just consistent, no more, she relies on her opponents self-destructing. I think Anna can win this first round.

This is the easiest section of the draw, but I don't have confidence Anna will do well.

And I can't remember them even talking that much tbh. She wasn't happy today at all having to be sharing a court with 2 other players. She was a lot different 2 years ago even though she was sick.

Unless they were practicing doubles, I don't think anyone would be very happy with that arrangement.

I just expected tier 1 event to have plenty of practice courts for everyone. guess i was wrong.
I guess by now, everyone knows of Anna's moodiness which is not helped by the fact that she is no longer top 20 player.
But why do you say her coach won't help her get her game back? he is not well respected?

Anna is in a great position, up a set and a break 6-3 4-3. I am not worried about whether her coach is known widely or anything like that, so long as he can help Anna play better, and I think the results say that he is helping. She may be moody in practice, but I am convinced she has turned the corner.

Although she has just lost that break, oh well, her matches are always up and down.

Into the third. So hard to predict Anna's matches. One thing is for sure, there will be breaks in this set.

Naturally Masha will put her in her place though. Yes, Daszmarelli, if Anna has a little run at the USOpen that would be fantastic.

I watched all of the match apart from the last 2 games.
Anna was playing well in the 1st set but you could tell how the mental game is really affecting her. I was just waiting for her to fall apart and it happened. There was actually 2 rain delays. The 1st was when she was up in the 2nd set but it lasted a few minutes and that was when she lost it. At the start of the 3rd set it was a horror show, the first point she tried a drop shot on a first serve and she was just hitting the balls out. Although I didn't agree you could hear the rumblings in the crowd that she was tanking. I misjudged the rain delay and got back when the match was over and saw her crying on the way back to the locker room.
She so needs to work on her mental side, even though it has always been an issue even when she was winning, that for me is the big problem. Just too negative all the time. 2 players who improved it are Safina and Zvonareva and I think they saw a sports psychologist, I think Anna needs to do the same. That is one thing that we will never know though, not many players will admit to going to one.

Play New Haven and US Open as she is there and it is a Grand Slam, then she should shutdown 2009. Take a month off, forget about tennis, relax on the beach, do nothing and then come back with a training plan in mind because she is not going to play through this slump. I actually think she should think about going back to Carlos Rodrigues and the academy again, if she let him take control of things then I feel things could be a lot better.

The reason she didn't stay long at Rodrigues' academy was because she was led to believe he personally would be coaching her but it turned out that he couldn't spend the time with her. I don't think she has a problem with the way she plays, or at least that's not what she needs to concentrate on. It's someone who can help her on the mental side. She was comfortably beating Bammer until she self-destructed.

Of course the mental side is the huge issue atm but the shot selection can be worked on. Her whole attitude is negative, in practice, on court etc etc. She practiced with Schiavone and I don't even remember them talking to each other. She is still friends with Vesnina? Vesnina may not be the best player in the world but she seems very upbeat and positive and I think that could rub off on Anna if they practiced. It really is a vicious circle and it will be hard to get out of unless she changes something. She really needs a break after the US Open.

The score may have said she was comfortably beating Bammer but her attitude on court was telling a different thing. She was pumping her fist after good shots but you were just waiting for her to explode and that is what she did. I don't think she ever felt confident during the match.
She is only 22 and has time but wasn't that what people were saying about Dokic when she started her fall?

You know what; I really think that robbery incident is still affecting her. I think it has a lot to do with fear.
I'm watching her 2007 Hobart semi vs. Sania Mirza that was posted in the youtube/video section. She was broken in the first game, and she brushed it off and went on to win the match 6-4 6-1. And then there was the Fed Cup brew-ha-ha vs. Israel, when she took on the whole crowd. There's a confidence and bravado there that disappeared after the robbery.
There have been spurts here and there, but now when she faces adversity, instead of taking it on like she used to, she seems to be afraid of it. Then the slumps happen, and the cycle continues.
She needs help dealing with that fear.
