This horrible year is over.Thank God.

Alize will have to take the lessons of her fall and work hard to improve to be back in the top20 where she belongs.

Allez alize, come back stronger in 2010!

the Draw is out:

R1: Alize Cornet vs Melinda Czink

could have been worse but czink is a dangerous player who had many good wins this year against (cirstea, wozniak, pavlyuchenkova or recently kleybanova) so she ll have to play a good match and be ready for a big battle.

Allez good luck alize!

:wavey:Alize starts her US Open series tournaments in Cincinatti. She's already there.
She gave an interview to a french radio and she seems quite relax and happy to start to play on hard court again.

LOL guys, unfortunetly she failed in her driving license but it was because(according to alize) the examinator was too harsh with her whereas she drived quite perfectly:lol:
well she said its no shame and that she'll be even more motivated to pass the exam again in september so good luck to her.;)

The field in Cincinatti is so huge this year:eek: but well that's another surface, another continent and why not another alize?much more positive and fighter?
well we'll see ,just hope she'll give her best there

Allez!
Thanks for the information! I hope for a good tournament for Alize. As far as her driver's test, it is very hard as some of you know, I had a hard time passing my test ;)

Broke back to 3-4, then lost her serve again, so is down 3-5, now 3-6. Sigh. Now she has lost her serve to love at the beginning of the second set. I gotta go, hopefully Alize can come back and win in three.

well the same average and poor play from alize,no miracle there. She had only one break point and converted it,her stats are very bad.
Nothing to say only that it was a poor match from her.

czink is the kind of player you see the tour is plenty of. She's left handed, hit flat and powerful strokes. She has some good wins this year and sure can play some good tennis but losing 3 and 2 proves how poor alize is right now.
Her serve is sooo weak and seems like everything in her game just not as good as it used to be.
Dont think she has to take a break now, the season is still long and many tournaments to come yet.
I think she shouldnt stop cause perhaps she'll find a new "breath" by playing lower tournaments.

Her New Heaven points will be retired next week if I m right so her ranking will drop once again, she s going to get outside the top32 if she continues losing that much. No seed for the US Open.
I think she just doesnt have the level to play in the Main draw right now. Perhaps playing qualies can help her finding her tennis back and to fight more like she used to be before that crap she's living in.:(

yes you're right, I think alize and agnes situation are the same, agnes had her slumping year in 2008 after her breakthrough year one year ago, reaching the quarter finale at the us open and winning beijing defeating jankovic in finale. She was struggling so much last year, she was like a ghost on the court,it was painful to watch.
I still think alize best way to stop that slump and confidence crisis is to play lower tournaments and play qualies of big ones. She must be able to win more than one match to get her rythme and confidence back.

Dont know what is her programme after the US Open but I think she should play more lower tournaments. She needs wins. And also work her ass very hard on training.

Mon Dieu! Alize is in really poor form! I am beginning to agree that perhaps going back to Qualies would be good for her. What I wonder is if she's even alarmed by this? Her interviews is just a image she s giving to the outside but in fact all that is not what she thinks. She doesnt want to look negative and worry her fans but when she says that she feels good and relax, in fact she doesnt believe it at 100%.
she lost her confidence and its very tough to make it back. Ask vaidisova or chakvetadze. Even ivanovic who just got beaten to czink last night.
To answer you, dont think she'll get better by the end of the year, I wish she could but I dont think she will in the current state of her game and lack of matches.
Losing every first round of a tournament is not a solution.

She needs to work hard.Very hard. And the only period she can work is in the off season so we can say bye to this awful 2009 season and think already of 2010 to prepare it better.

And it wasn't a surprise at all.
I think the best she could do this period of a career is just to stop playing after the US Open. There's no point to do that, there's no necessity to burn herself with the negative all she gains from the another loss to loss. A mental rest is needed, she is still young to have a chance to bounce back.

yes I tend to think the same. She s just embarrassing herself with all those loss in first round of big tournaments. She should stop after the US but something tells me she wont.
she needs to take some mental rest and recovery. Then she must make a very good off season preparation for next year.
She wont be seeded at the US Open now and has a third round points to defend. Dont expect anything from her with that kind of spirit. She's going nowhere right now.Better stop the season and build on for the next one.

OMG on the verge of winning. Up a break in the last set. Sam is probably feeling the pressure now...

HowardH
Aug 25th, 2009, 05:36 PM
So much depends on the next two games. It's 3-3 in the third, Alize couldn't hold onto the break. If Sam holds to 4-3 Alize's position becomes stressful and that game will not be easy to hold. If Alize breaks of course she gets the advantage. Next dozen points will probably decide the match.

Over. 7-6(8) 2-6 4-6.

Positives to take are that she clearly played better than in previous weeks. But come crunch time, she folded. 4-4, Sam held to love and then Alize got into trouble immediately on her serve. If she had played those last couple of games better she could have had chances, but I have no doubt that Sam lifted her game at that moment, so it was always going to be difficult. Still, an improvement and better than I expected.

I also think Alize should have been able to pressure Sam more in that second set. With a set in hand, if she had reached 3-3 or 4-4 in that set the pressure on Sam would have been intense. But nevertheless I think this might be a good sign.

I think the same actually. She fought extremely hard to win that first set(1h25 duration),she spent so much energy and she isnt used to that kind of "intense" matchs for a looong time.

I agree. Fighting like this is the way out of the slump. This reminds me of Chak's match vs Kirilenko when it went to the third set tb. Even though she lost eventually Anna Chak began to turn the corner after that, she still has problems but can win some matches now. Alize is in a similar mode to her at the moment, so I expect that she can win a few matches in US Open if she gets a favourable draw.

talking about the draw, when will it be out?

and yes the chakvetadze example is good, you know you're on the good way when you see some fight and positive intentions in the game.
I even go further and say that alize needs to play more matchs so I know I said it would be a wise decision to stop the season early because of her horrible forme

BUT

I think its the opposite.Alize is not far right now. She must play other tournaments to get her tennis, rythme back. She was very close today. She must keep believing in her.

its a very good draw for alize imo.She could have drawn players like domachowska or perry who can be dangerous. She needs to make her confidence back and I think that first opponent could bring it to her.

yes that match was really scary and very happy she got through. But she really has to play better than that cause zheng level is much more higher.Hopefully she ll be able to be more "free" about her game. Dont know what she will do but she'll need luck and much of fighting spirit too.

Here is her post match reaction(official website):

"This victory, I wanted at any price! "
News - 02.09.2009

Alizé at the end of the match:

"It was a strange game. I was very tense in the first set so it was not easy. Losing the first set gave me a boost, I decided I was not going down without having won this match. Yes, it was a pain. I had to battle. I was too stressed out because I thought about this game all day. My next opponent, I played at Miami (lost 6-4, 6-0) and I just did dropped the match that day but I have the game and the potential to bother her. She has great energie, like all Chinese players but I like to play girls playing with rythm.

HowardH
Sep 2nd, 2009, 12:50 PM
Yes, Zheng's level is much higher. The thing that worries me the most is whether Alize can hold her serve. She has been struggling with that for a while and Zheng is one of the best returners around, especially on a faster surface. Alize is not the favourite, that's for sure, she'll need to play great to have a chance.

Well, last couple of losses weren't pure beatings like before, but I still think that she should end the season now.:( Maybe I'm wrong, but can't see her winning at least 3 matches in a row in any tournament these days, so what's the point to play then? Proper off-season could be much more useful.

Well very disapointing cause she lost. But there is something positive to take, she managed to put a great score in first set. Then she tried to fight in the second but couldnt manage to win the crucial points.
I think its all her lack of confidence who cost her the match today.I mean she showed she had the level of top20 there. I still think she must NOT end her season with that kind of result.
She must play lower tournaments before tokyo and beijing to get back that confidence.
I didnt see her in any small tournament after the us open. THAT SUCKS.

dont think she must do like ivanovic and take a break cause she's disappointed with her results. She must FIGHT and find a way to win!she improved these last weeks, more better attitude so she must build her confidence on lower tournaments.

well you dont put such a score in first set to a player like zheng if you didnt play a high level of tennis. Very consistent one. That's her, her best tennis.
Then zheng fought harder in the second despite all the alize occasions on her own serves to lead in the score.
She said in post match interview that despite the loss, her disappointment she feels way better about her game and really want to get her level back.
She said she really hope to win matchs as soon as possible which confirms what I think, an alize with some wins under her belt can do even better and win that kind of close matchs against quality players such as zheng.
She wants to continue her season and forecast to play it till the end. Brave attitude and the right one imo.Would be so "easy" to say "ok I stop my season, its useless to continue in those losing conditions"

Look, there's no time and no abilities to rebuild herself till the end of the season, cause she couldn't make it during 6 or so months already.

When you have a passion, something that you really want to reach and get, do you give up when you havent succeed to get it after so many time spending your energie or do you keep working hard till you finally get what you wanted?
as for me its the second option. Think its the same for alize.I'll put her post match interview later.

Hi Everyone! I didn't get to see the match but how did Alize play? Is she making any improvement at all in her game?

well I know from people who were there that she had much better attitude than the last months, she was in control in first set, having game point on every service game in the second but zheng is big fighter. Alize started getting tense and nervous , also looked tired according to them.
She isnt used to play such intense and physical match so yeah perhaps a little "short" physicly.
I didnt see the match but followed it in the livescore and yeah she looked way better on her own service game, had many bps on zheng serve. If she wasnt in such low of confidence she would have beat the chinese imo.
She had positive sensations in that match so yeah, she's gettin better,I guess...(I put her interview)

She's not gonna play seoul tournament though I really hoped her to play it, even play the qualies :othere but according to a source, alize decided to use that time before tokyo tournament to train on her physical shape.
So she'll come back in 3 weeks at Tokyo tournament. Wish her to use that time the best way.

some good words from pierre i think.

yes I think the same as you actually. I also think that what she experienced that year, that loss of confidence and belief would make her stronger.More mature also even if she stay a teenager of 19.
The most important thing is that she wants to play, she wants to win and fight to do so.

As for Justine Henin, yes I think playing an exhibition with such a great champion could be benefic to alize and give her even more motivation to work harder in the off season.
I mean she needs some technical and physical work to be able to achieve great things. Justine won roland garros many times so it is all about hard work and big motivation cause the belgian size was not impressive if compared to the one of her generation(williams sisters, the russians)

Did you see the pictures of Kim in Times Square? She looked so pretty with her hair down. She just gets better with age and motherhood has agreed with her nicely! I am so happy for her and I like Caroline too...both so lovely and gracious. Now, until Tokyo.....

Both Kim and Caro were very charming, I was impressed with Caro's calmness in the final and in her speech. Kim looked great, she is really still pretty young we must remember, but she has done so much she seems to have been around forever. And motherhood has definitely agreed with her.

Now if Alize could just follow Kim's example... I mean, not the retiring and the getting married and having a baby part, I mean the tennis part... I think Kim has shown that a more mature mindset, and having her life in a different place, can have a very positive influence on a person's tennis.

yeah kim looks so sereine on the court even if she admits that she felt tense and nervous before the match.
Yeah would be great if alize could have that kind of serenity, this calmness kim has. But well every person is different, she should be more positive and calm on the court but I think this maturity will come with experience, some tough one like she had this year with that shoulder injury and loss of confidence then.
I mean this showed her that tennis can be so "volatile", nothing is guaranteed in this sport. But well I like her personnality on court. Seing her too calm sounds weird to me lol:lol:. I saw her being quiet in some of her matchs and that was NOT Alize. Something was wrong and she lost her matchs.
I think she must be herself and work on her attitude to be stronger in crucial points.
But first of all she has to believe in her again.Confidence is the most important.

well dont know what to think about that. It can turn in one way(the positive one) or... the other way(worst one)
in fact I think about the ending season,we shouldnt be expecting much from her, I think she has so many things to work on and she'll only be able to do it at the off season.
she gave us some hopes after her match against zheng at the us open but seems like playing lower ranked players makes her turn bad.:help:

cant wait for this season to end to be honest:sad:

yes it could be very bad for her but if she makes a BIG preparation in the off season, perhaps she could come back with some good forme and big motivation.
Her season was just horrible, it cant be worse in 2010.She must think "positive" and make all the hard work to make her tennis back.

I think the off season will be crucial. She must work on her serve, her technique and also her physique.

Alize couldn't break there, so 3-3. Sam has saved 3 of 4 BPs. Alize couldn't save the only BP she faced.

HowardH
Oct 3rd, 2009, 06:43 AM
Alize won the first set. Sam is still not in her best form, as in recent tournies. But Alize is down an early break in the second, and also struggling on her serve again, this could be going to three.

HowardH
Oct 3rd, 2009, 07:21 AM
One set each. Alize is serving first in the third set, which might be a slight advantage. Or not. They are even because Sam has saved 9 of 12 BPs, whereas Alize has faced only 3 BPs... and saved none of them.

HowardH
Oct 3rd, 2009, 07:29 AM
Well, serving first is not much of an advantage... if you lose your serve at the very beginning of the set :o. Still has lost every BP she has faced. Oh wait, she has a chance to break back... and she does. 1-1.

HowardH
Oct 3rd, 2009, 07:36 AM
:tape: Faced five BPs. Broken five times. She can't save them at all. Sam is struggling on her serve, but if she manages to hold...

HowardH
Oct 3rd, 2009, 07:41 AM
2-2. But I don't like the fact that Sam seems to be saving over two thirds of BPs, whereas Alize cannot save a single one.

HowardH
Oct 3rd, 2009, 07:45 AM
Holds to 3-2. Finally serving first yields a lead.

HowardH
Oct 3rd, 2009, 07:47 AM
3-3. Business end of the set.

HowardH
Oct 3rd, 2009, 07:50 AM
Holds to 4-3. Alize has slightly stronger position here, Sam is always playing catch up.

HowardH
Oct 3rd, 2009, 07:53 AM
DF for Sam. BP. This is Alize's chance for the match.

Oct 3rd, 2009, 07:56 AM

améliemomo
Oct 5th, 2009, 10:24 AM
bad bad serve stats, she served better against stosur but well all her problems(confidence, technique, tactic) are still there so kinda "expected" loss against wozniak
still 2 tournaments(linz and luxembourg) to the off season, it will be some occasion to win some points
the best players wont play much in order to prepare the YEC so perhaps alize can win some matchs...

but to be honest cant wait for the season to END.

Yes, it is a pretty good score, considering Aleks has been in good form. For much of the match Alize was staying with her. But Alize never really threatened to win the match. She was never ahead. Wozniak served for the first set and got broken, so then the first set went to a tiebreak. Alize promptly lost 14 of the next 15 pts, losing the tiebreak 7-0, and being broken to go down 2-0 in the 2nd set. Even though she broke back, it seemed that she would not win the really big points, and serving at 4-5 in the second set it proved to be true. Alize played pretty well I think, but not on the big points.
