Important victory for Chan/Niculescu. It would have made their victory over Black and Huber of much less value had they lost this one. And it was tougher than I expected too. But really nice fightback. Cirstea/Kirilenko are a decent pair but they are the type of team Yung-Jan and Monica need to beat if they want to be a top doubles team. So bottom line is it was successful day at the office for Chan/Niculescu. I'm happy with that.

Looking forward to the final. The Williams sisters are about as close to unbeatable in the final of a tournament as it is possible to be. Prior to this event the Williams sisters have contested 15 finals in their careers....and won 14. Their one loss in a final was almost ten years ago in 1999. Crikey they are good. On top of that the way the breezed past Mattek/Petrova and Dekmeijere/Ditty suggests they are in pretty vemonous form too.

Needless to say I'm not expecting a victory against the Williams sisters. But it will be great to see how Chan/Niculescu measure up against such a fearsome team. I would hope they will at the very least win say half a dozen games. Even that might be tough but it's a realistic goal. I also hope they have fun and play brave uninhibited tennis. They have nothing to lose and this should be a match they can just let loose. Good luck to them. :inlove:

Wow, Congrats Yung-Jan/Monica!!!! :hearts: :bounce:  Great way to back up the QF with another victory over a seeded pair. :yeah:

Second big final for Monica following New Haven last year and a first for Chan since splitting with Chuang. So they both have experience being in this position before and I'd imagine Chan will be the leader figure out there. The WS is a huge ask especially considering their current form and record in finals but they did just beat Black/Huber so anything is possible. I just hope they have a good match and do themselves proud. This week has been a success whatever happens. We can now add Yung-Jan to the growing list of players who Monica has done well with (and vice versa), and hopefully we'll see this partnership continue.
