Even as someone who believes (rather intensely :o) in jinxes, I have to agree with his reasoning. There will almost certainly be some hellfire moments, whether she wins or loses.

I only know what branding is in the sense of "branding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Livestock_branding)"* animals on a ranch or a farm. Which... I sincerely hope is not what's going on here. :bolt:

*Uh... don't click on that if you're sensitive to upsetting pictures of animals.

"Branding" in this sense makes it sound she's meeting with him to figure out a way or a new approach to way she's presented to the media and/or to sponsors.

Businesses have branding sessions to figure out their game pan on how they'll present their product or name to the global market.

He works for a really big sports/talent agent (CAA).

I had that thought, too, but it seems so odd since those aren't her agents (unless I've missed some kind of affiliation her manager has with them). At least as far as I know, although if they aren't she could of course be thinking of making a representation jump. Anyway, God only knows, those places have their tentacles in so many things.

On another note. I was watching the Fish (or as my sister calls him who) match last night and Cahill said that she had been on the practice courts everyday.

Caroline Wozniacki will be in Safina's side of the draw. Woz either has a poker face or doesn't really care.

Zvonareva is the second seed in LA. Azarenka is in her half. A Safina vs Azarenka final would be cool!

Lisicki or Hantuchova will meet Safina in the second round.

Well ladies,it's 11:30 in North-Central Mexico and 10:30 in L.A.,and I'm reminded that even the authority figures in California are often as aimless as the everyday people there. Is it any coincidence that the L.A. tourney sponsor is HERB-alife??Indeed,the event director and his staff are pro'bly sitting back in his office right now smoking herb as those who have more purpose in life are waiting patiently for the MD....If you think I'm exaggerating, just remember how the former retard governor,Gray Davis, opened the door for Schwarzenegger to take charge.Instead of simply borrowing the necessary funds to pay the Texas-based electrical power provider,Davis chose to assume that they were bluffing when they threatened to cut the power in response to the unpaid bill.Yep,they were bluffing all right, weren't they,Gray?:haha::haha::haha:.How much do you wanna bet that some of Davis's buddies are running this tournament:lol:

Sorry ladies and Norby,I've gotta take my old self to bed and wait for the MD to appear tomorrow...unless this event gets canceled due to excess stupidity;)

thank you bruce. well, dinara will have to play better than she did at portoroz, or she'll loose in second round. then zheng, bartoli, ana...too close. second quarter should be an easy cakewalk for caro. third quarter really weak. Azarenka should make it to the quarters easily. interesting match against sharapova coming...eat plugs needed.Last quarter isn't impressive either. i wish nads and vera go to the quarters but one has a :help: mental and the other one is coming from injury. conclusion: dindin has the toughest draw.

So I'm not 100% clear on how a draw withdrawal works, but I would think if Sabine is taking over a seed spot and is now playing a qualifier, it means she's replacing a seed who was playing a qualifier.

Yes? No? I dunno. :)

Those options would be Sam (who had a medical time out in her semi for a injury), Jie Zheng, Schiavone, or Flavia.

I happen to like all these player and while I'm happy Dinara's 2nd round match may not be as hard (I think Sabine posed more of a threat than Dani) I'm bummed if one of them is withdrawing.

Ivanovic has said that her injury from Wimbledon isn't serious, but still causes her a lot of pain...That's sort of bizarre, but I'm not blaming YOU...it's the sort of comment you'd expect from Ivanovic. If an injury ALLEGEDLY forced you to quit in the middle of a 4th Round Slam match...and then skip almost two months(including LA,potentially),then wouldn't that be considered at least semi-serious??Apparently,she's able to walk several kilometers, withOUT a limp,as she strolls around the golf course posing for pictures...so,thankfully,it's not life-threatening:rolleyes:

good for Dina! :bounce:

Interesting... But Marion wasn't due to play a qualifier

seeds are in different groups before draw (1-2, 3-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16). if one of higher tier seeds withdraw, then they move lower seeds up. (if MD didn't started yet)

so it looks like, Bartoli was 9th seed, they moved 13th seed Stosur there, who was supposed to play to a qualifier before, and Lisicki became 17th seed and took her place.

So do they move every seed below Marion around and give Sabine Schiavone's spot since she was the last seed?

One hour you are lucky :p i have the same problem so that's why last time i had to woke up in the middle of the night i tried to sleep for 4 hours but ended up sleeping less than one hour :(

Coffee doesn't work for me , i'll probably go take a cold shower every half hours

yah, I go for 4 hours too but when I'm lucky it's only one or two hours. Turkish coffee baby. I drink many types of coffee but the one I drink if I want to stay up is Turkish coffee cuz the other types do nothing for me:p

Cold showers ha, you are gonna be so clean following the match

I was like...why is that on thet top? :p

I wanna f--king puke right now:rolleyes:!I saw Zheng go against Bartoli this year in Monterrey when Marion didn't play very well with too many UEs...and Marion STILL kicked her ass!!As a PLAYER(not considering her separately as a person),Zheng is a mediocre piece of crap who,on her BEST day,can only hope to steal about four games per set against a bored Serena or Venus who have NO fear of losing to her and only go half-speed.Her whole reputation was built on upsetting the "#1" Ana Ivanovic who,as we've seen since then, was a complete, utter fraud at the top spot.Hindsight has shown that a win over A.I. is meaningless as EVERYone, even ITF-caliber players, has done it easily in the last 15 months.Making things so sickening is the fact that Zheng is the unsightly poster girl for a bunch of baby-killers....

Dinara,HOW IN THE HELL can you expect anyone to take you seriously???Even a choker like ANA managed to win a Grand Slam even though it was highly dubious in the wake of Henin's retirement...so you really have no excuse for CONSTANTLY playing like s--t when the pressure's on you in big matches.Do you really want THIS to be your legacy:rolleyes:???....Tired of this bullcrap:(

cavemate :worship:
my big problem with her, she always looks the same insecure and lost girl, who never knows what she needs to do. and came up with these lines, like today "This match, I didn't do the right things...". Ok, why didn't do the right things never? didn't see whats wrong? are she blind or def? didn't see the score after the first set? or she just let JZ to dictate the game? ... why can't figure out what is going on the court, instead of crying and cursing. yeah, everybody says "Safin mind, yada, yada", but it's pretty lame excuse, i can't believe.
IF they trying new things, i don't know but maybe, what happened after she had 4-2 in the 3rd?

i don't think she is stupid girl, BUT she always looks stupid on court, always the same goofy face, like she doesn't know where is she or who is she. what does she expect? Not everybody is just a coward and lose easily because she is 6 feet tall...

:smash:Dinara, losing from leading 4-2 in the 3rd....winning only 2 points from that point:banghead:, nice way to give us a rude awakening, why do her chances at USO seem slim, if she lets opponents dictate play:rolleyes:, all in vain:crying2:.

vanúss
Aug 7th, 2009, 01:23 PM
It's one match , one tournament
And like Nina said it's not that surprising , she won their previous encounter but it wasn't easy so it makes more sense to lose to Zheng than almost losing against Errani

As you can see i'm trying not to be to upset/pessimist about it all but i'm telling myself that tons of people are taking care of bringing her down so i don't feel like adding to that even if it's understandable !

And since i didn't saw the match i have a hard time giving a real point of view since we don't know what happened , Zheng said that she was 110% into every shots , Dina struggled with her serve but not because of any pain but because she tried to go for the Aces , the key word being Tried so it's maybe part of their plan to improve her game

:o:o:oLadies, let me apologize to you if I've contributed to any flack you might be taking in GM.Apparently, people are asking why some of us--that'd include me--don't have the same faith in Dinara that Henin's or Serena's fans have for their favorite. The answer is clear,of course:Those other players have actually followed through in winning 'the big one'.As someone who comes from a family full of alcoholics,I can tell you that we still love the wayward drunk...but we have LONG since stopped trusting or believing in them.

Is there ANY reason to believe that Dinara has what it takes when we witness such pathetic mental meltdowns??Can you think of ANY #1 greats in history who had similar attributes??Even ANA'S fans have some reason for hope since their gal has managed to win a Slam.Granted,it might seem slim but,in theory, she could regain her desire one day and she has the talent to pull it off if she ever dedicates herself. In Dinara's case,I'm just not sure as I can't recall any long-term champions who exhibited such mental weakness on court.I'm sorry for being blunt, but this is a textbook example of,"I'll believe it when I see it.":help:

Actually,I had a couple historical precedents but I was afraid to cite them:Mauresmo was an erratic,up-and-down,mental case for much of he career before she FINALLY became a consistent champion in 2006-2007.......except she was almost 30 years old when it happened:eek:....The same was true for Navratilova who was notorious for choking to Evert in unbelievable fashion during her younger days(I was just a baby then but my parents talked about it later).Same story, though;Navrat was MUCH older 'fore she became consistent....If this is Dina's path, then we have a LONNNNNG wait ahead of us:help:

She's still young , even if 23 is not young anymore in Tennis but she's 8 in her head ()and just got on the main stage a year ago and had so much going on , many expectations were created around her , plus the fact that all her life she had to deal with being Marat's sister and today she's finally stepping out of his shadow . It shouldn't be that hard or affect her that much but it's Dinara
It's more fun not to see it coming...i guess :help:

The strong comments below do NOT pertain to our own lovable Dinara fan,Tracy:angel:

....Just did a litle research on Stosur:worship: and found out that her dad is sort of a big shot in the sanitation business back in their neck of the woods in Australia.Apparently, the Stosur family garbage disposal business makes pick-ups on Friday;)....Since Los Angeles is home to SOOOO many of my fellow Mexicans,I've generously decided to broaden the horizons of today's LOSER,the mediocre fraud Zheng,by sharing a message in Spanish that she can take back to Beijing and relay to her close friends in the PRC government--especially her cronies that administer the Population Control policy--who allow their Poster Girl a life of ease while so many others live in abject poverty with almost zero personal freedoms:Vayanse al infierno, maricones incestuosos!:devil::devil:

As for Dina,I'm inclined to agree with Vanessa's statement that the glorious moments are even MORE special when they're unexpected.Still,TRY to limit the kind of crap we saw yesterday,Dinara...and DON'T wait 'til you're Mauresmo's age before you start winning Slams.........PLEEE-EASE!

Because she played mental midget Dina in the final :p
But in general I agree with you. Dinara is mentally so weak it is painful to watch. And unless she fixes this somehow - I still suggest outside help from somebody other than Z - and gets more independent from her coach I don't see her winning a GS. She had her chances, especially this year at RG, and she blew them.

Nina,I swear that I almost included that in the post....Dinara vs. Ana--SOMEone had to win:rolleyes:,they couldn't BOTH choke away the match...at least not completely. It's time to switch to the Cincy thread,my brilliant fraulein friend but I'll conclude by guessing that,of those two,Dinara has the better current situation.Ana has simply stopped caring and wants to spend her time chasing men, sometimes more than one,(Marat,Novak,Rafa,Verdasco,A.Scott...and you can throw in at least a dozen more "good friends" that Ana has,ALL of whom are male wealthy, stylish celebrities) and doing photoshoots. If she ever starts missing tennis enough, though, she'll quit faking injuries & dodging practices and regain her Top 10 status. In DINARA'S case, she WANTS to win but keeps having mental meltdowns at crucial moments. In THEORY,she could meet with a sports counsellor who helped her overcome her self-imposed psyche hurdles....However,as I've already mentioned,it took Mauresmo and Navrat almost until they were 30 to sort things out:eek:
