Excellent! I was hoping they would do this given the smaller draw and the possibility of being #1 if they win the Open and YEC! :D Go for it!

i like when they play doubles, i just hope neither gets injured. this seems to be the period of the year both of them struggle with injury wise when you think they should be coming into their own.

Good on them. I think it's clear they want the no.1 and they need these tournaments to accomplish that. TV channels might actually show some doubles too! :bounce:

Not sure we need to open a thread every time they enter a tournament though. ;) They will probably play most tourneys from now where they are both at to try and qualify for Doha.

Surprised that they are playing doubles but if they want to be number 1 in the world and qualify for Doha in doubles, this seem to be the way to go especially if they stay healthy.

this doubles thing is not really helping Venus she always is injured or loses early at important events. She should rest that knee because hardcourts are not good on joints, this is helping Serena more than Venus.

I think this is part of a bigger picture with Venus and Serena. I think they are starting to retool their game and perhaps start moving towards a more serve and volley type game..

This is good for womens doubles.

Even though I'm not really a fan of either of them, they are definitely the best team when they play.

uh , we know lil to nothing about this Vee injury so how do you know that it's a bad idea? i'm sure that if she thought the same or if she wasn't healthy enough to compete that she wouldn't do it
for now all this injury thing is just speculation

Yes. 2000+2000+2000+280+1500 = 7780, that's if they win USO and YEC, so they have that much with just 5 events, that's a great chance at #1 if they just play regular events as well now.

They really are serious about this doubles thing this year. Well after the demolition they handed out to Bluber at Wimbledon they must feel an obligation to back it up with the ranking too. You know they have never been top 3 in dubs? I couldn't believe that when I saw it, but they haven't played the tour in dubs in a decade so that explains it. :o You know if they win the Open then we will look back on that unfortunate match at the French :fiery: as the only thing that kept them from winning the doubles slam they said they wanted in January.

Oh boy!!!! WS doubles outside of a major!!!! Will wonders never cease? :hearts: :worship:

They probably will play one more event in the fall together too, so that will only help their cause. I have a great respect for Liezel, but the Williams are comin' for ya Bluber. :armed: :rolls:

They played some tour events last year too but missed two of the slams.

The SF with Black/Huber was possibly the best match they've played together and even more than the Final showed to me that they want to be the best doubles team. We'll see how it pans out. Black/Huber currently are still the best by quite a way but they have alot to defend as usual most of all their US Open title. It will depend alot on Black/Huber's results and how well the Williams' do/how many events they play. No reason why they cannot do it based on their play this year, but it's about repeating it again and again. I think if they win Stanford/USO and see themselves having a legitimate chance, they'll play in some indoor tourneys too.

I would bet that if they do well at the US Open, they'll team up at the Beijing mandatory. That tounament would be a good chance to get a lot of points, and they have good memories from that venue (Olympic gold last year). I love when they play together :bounce:!

I am with you.

Summer season has always been a delicate time for them.
Hope they do not get injured.
