What does Elke do to deserve these Tier II Wildcards other than be related to Kim Clijsters?! She can't even win a 10K and yet she still gets a few every year. This is exactly what happens with Torrey Gambill and he cant win anything, not even one set better than 6-2. This whole living off your older siblings success really needs to stop! I know she has good junior results, but she hasnt done crap on the tour, so she needs to do something in the pro ranks if shes gonna keep getting these wild cards.

I'm sure the WC has more to do with who owns the tournament and not nationality. I think Eggy said that Octagon owns this tournament. If thats true then u can see the Elke connection. And they are probably pursuing Kirilenko and this would be a good way to wooo her.

Thanks for the quali draws, danker! :wavey:

Mi-ra didn't have luck here.

1st round with Talaja, then 2nd with Vanessa Webb, the least favored style player to Mi-ra. :(

It's tough, cause it's Tier II event. You can do it if you believe so!

Go, Mi-ra!

LOL, most of the main draw from Shanghai is in the qualies here ...

BK4ever
Sep 14th, 2002, 12:08 AM
Taylor will probably withdraw and Angie will probably have to whether she wins or not. Doesnt qualie start tomorrow (well today there)

Hi Janie- yeah the Shanghai main draw is the qualies.
I don't know who Remi Tezuka is;but it's kind of a cool
sounding name- I'll cheer for her. HA!! Have to cheer
for Angie, and that girl Cho too. Oh- yeah. Gotta help
Miho Saeki too; she's gonna be Kimiko's dubs parnter,
and we don't want her to feel bad for not making the
main draw.

auntie janie
Sep 14th, 2002, 12:20 AM
LOL @ Green. I see I am not the only one who picks who to root for based on their cool-sounding name. Why do you think I still root for Hanna Nooni? ;)

Hey? Why is Angie in the qualies draw? Is Lina that
big of star that she get's a place into the main draw?
If Angie makes the Shanghai finals- wouldn't she be
in the main draw. Rita Grande isn't playing.

I cant believe that Angie has to play Qualy Round and Angie is ONLY seed #2 at Qualy....she is supposed to be seed #1 at Qualy not Kuznetsova! :o

b8beEbLu3
Sep 14th, 2002, 02:30 AM
Kuznetsova has a higher ranking than Angie! Thats why she is seeded higher.

Yes thats why Lina got a exclusive (reserved for best 20 stars on tour) Gold Exempt placing for 2002
and she got in with her injury ranking.

Angie i doubt will play here ( if she loses Shanghai SF she would have to fly over and play 2 matches in Sunday)

If Angie plays here she'll win 6-1, 6-0 in R2 ;) I think she can still play, IF Anna Smash. beat her in China later today

Oh too bad for Elke!!!
I'd guess with my own favoritism mixed in.....
Group 1 - Toughest part of the quali draw to predict, but I guess Dominikovic d Kuznetsova
Group 2 - If Angelique can't play, then Talaja all the way, although I have heard good things about Belobrajdik too, could be a surprise qualifier here...
Group 3 - Mandula (if she play consistently enough) d Prakusya
Group 4 - Molik or Kirilenko? Probably Molik will get through here

Qualifiers? I'd guess Dominikovic, Talaja, Mandula, and don't know but hopefully Kirilenko over Molik, but Alicia certainly should make it through too...

From Angie's website... from Angie's own words, she said she couldn't make it on time to Tokyo, because she had to play SF against Smashnova, and if she did lost and the earliest flight to go to Tokyo is 9 40 Shanghai time and will arrived at Tokyo at 12 45. the tournament could only wait for Angie until 12 o'clock on Sunday.

so yeah she is a little dissapointed her self, and she said that she still going to play doubles in Tokyo. she then will go home and will go to Bali right after!

put her in the main draw. :(

TheBoiledEgg
Sep 14th, 2002, 08:43 AM
the WTA doesn't have those rules and the tourns aren't allowed to do this

The ATP has 32 draws and of those 2 are Special Exempt where its used sometimes for a player who is playing in SF the previous week gets the SE into maindraw of the next week

TheBoiledEgg

Angie should've gotten the WC into the main draw coz she is in SF in Shanghai and that the organisers in Tokyo should take the initiative to give her the WC as Angie still would not make it to Tokyo in time to play in the QF rounds whether she loses or wins in the SF in Shanghai...
