I imagine Sexysova watching it in the stands!

you're such a moron, it's not funny anymore!

Nicole is so low on confidence that sometimes she hardly hits her shots over the net, even from FH side, it's pathetic, I don't know why, when she goes for a singles match, she's done even before the match, she was training with Kvitova who hits harder than Kudryavtseva and Nicole had no problems to hit nice winners and mainly hit over the net so confidence is the problem, visit a psychologist, please, no words..

 I'm sorry Ondrej. Hopefully Papa Kodat will start helping her get some confidence back in this time she has off now. I agree though, it would be very wise for her to see a sports psychologist. Many players in many sports have to do it... I think it would be a very good thing for her. It's so sad that she can play well in warm-up/doubles but not in singles. I hope you still had some fun today at the tournament and for the rest of the week.

This is really tough, but we just have to stay positive and hope that a turn-around is not too far in the future.

Ignore the haters here though, most don't understand how badly this sucks right now. :(

What is this, the era of players slumping? Why are all my fave players slumping...

Poor Ondrej, who had to watch it live. I really thought at 5-3 that she would win, so yes, Nikki, I was a little surprised. But as soon as she lost her serve serving for the first set I knew it was probably already the end.

I think TBE and Ondrej have hit the nail on the head, she is so low on confidence that she is scared to go for her shots, and that lack of confidence makes her miss even routine rally shots. Even without seeing the match I know this must be the case. At elite levels, where they hit so hard and near the net and lines, a tennis player has to believe that their shot will go in. A lack of belief or commitment to the shot will result in a small change in the racquet angle or timing and create a mistake. You can't fake it either, if you don't really have confidence and you have to force yourself to commit to the shot, that force will also pull your shot offline.

Of course some players simply cannot trust their shots because their shots are not good enough, maybe they have technical flaws in the serve etc. But Nicole has shown that her shots are good enough to do the job. You just have to believe Nicole. Seriously, if you can do it in practice, it is so clear that it is in your mind. But I think that this belief is difficult for Nicole to have right now. I think it's like rebuilding the trust in a relationship when trust has been lost. Nicole has to rebuild the trust in her game.

I don't even know why she's playing so bad. I watched a vid from this match, and some of the errors are just so bad. :( Why would she be going for those shots?

I'm beginning to wonder whether Nicole needs a break from tennis. Normally I would want to see a player fight through a patch of bad form, but her patch is growing frighteningly big. Maybe some time away is what she needs to recover the form that saw her in the top 10.

My only hope, one of the only players that remind me of Tati for some reason (same generation, foten compared, many matches between them, etc) is in mega-slump. She should try to play ITFs, it'd really help her

Poor Nicole:o

Every opponent knows she is fragile so they just need to stay in the point, the game, the set and the match is there. Whenever it gets close in a set,9 times out of 10 she loses.

In a few weeks, she will be in the qualies and the ITFs and she just needs to spend some time in $25ks for a while and then move up, because she just needs wins.

She can't beat top 100 level players at the moment so the best thing would be to go to play ITFs in Japan, Australia, Africa, South America where there are barely any players entered in the top 200. Maybe it will be a come down for a former top star to be slumming it in a $25k in Lagos, Nigeria but this is often a great route up the rankings - look at Gajdosova-Groth and Wickmayer for instance.

Anna-Lena Groenefeld went through a similar disaster recently and she has climbed back into the top 60 by chugging away at ITFs for about a year. Look at Jelena Dokic. And what about Jennifer Capriati.

You can't even laugh at Nicole anymore. It's just sad.

After she got back with Kodat again she made it to the third round of two Premier Mandatory's and to the second round of a clay leadup (can't remember where it was). It looked like she was turning things around.

Going down to play ITF tournaments is a slippery slope. Some players go down there to gain confidence and never get back out.
