Sacramento won this matchup 18-15, depite Vee and Lisa winning the doubles 5-1.

Can't believe noone mentioned this before...ok, it doesn't realllllly matter, but Venus, playing under the watchful eyes of BJK, loses 5-1 to Haynes!!!

EDIT: And then lost 5-3 to Sloane Stephens!!!

Thanks, yeah I got to that page but have no clue about all those teams and who plays for which. It would be much more helpful IMO if they just had the matches each player participated in on their player profiles.

I did look through whose playing though. We could possibly have a Stubbsy/S Williams teamup :bounce:

:haha: I can just imagine that

The Fed Cup match was funny seeing Lisa pat Venus on the back encouraging her like she would do with Stosur, I don't think Venus was used to that as her and Serena don't usually do that when they play dubs.

Stubbs/S Williams have played twice now I believe, winning both and subsequently aiding their team to victory.

I saw Vee playing WTT in Washington on Tuesday in singles, doubles, and mixed. She actually played fine, with no strapping anywhere on her body. She beat Puchkova 5-2, I think, but that hardly means anything, given the current state of Olga's game.

If she was injured why did she play. Well not injured but the knee thingy.

Anna injured her wrist in a bar brawl in Vegas.......I mean practising (that is the official story).

So she turned up and the event signed autographs and cheered on her team.

Sloan Stevens is only 16. She made the Semifinals at the French Open Juniors. She is an up and comer.

Angela is a lefty player who has not reached her potential. I think Angie has a few upsets in her future.

I really don't see what the big deal is here. It's not surprising for Venus (or Serena, for that matter) to have a silly loss in an unheralded event- especially coming off big disappoints. I sure Vee's fine with it, as she knows exactly what it means.

On the other hand, I'm very happy for Angela. Perhaps this will be the boost her confidence needs.

Any fans out there that are thinking this means Venus is on her last legs, take a deep breath.

And any VENUS only fans who are thinking the have to vehemently defend Vee in this, chill. It's just not that big of a deal.

EDIT: In addition, we don't even know if Vee was simply working on aspects of her game, using these as practice matches. In other words, we don't know HOW seriously she took this match. She certainly didn't HAVE to take it that seriously.

Anyway, Congrats Angela!!

Serena's lob was clearly long but it wasn't being called OUT. Venus was close to the net so she took some time to check the mark before she decided to challenge it and the Chair Umpire ALLOWED Venus to challenge it.
The ball was OUT and Venus won the point by making a CORRECT challenge.

My problem is anyone (Serena fan or not) calling Venus a cheater. It is made worse when that person was supposed to be a fan of hers. Don't like her; be upset about the lost; stop being a fan. whatever. who cares?

I think if the ball is out, it's out. Yeah sometimes players take too long, but it's the umpire's fault. At the end of the day, it's better that the right call is made. I'd much rather see a challenge take a little too long and the right call be made then someone be denied a challenge on a big point for taking too long and have someone's error be rewarded. It's downright idiotic that anyone could possibly think Venus would cheat against her sister. That's just not going to happen (she wouldn't cheat against anyone else, for that matter). If someone cheated everytime the umpire allowed a player was allowed to challenge despite taking time, then half the tour would be at fault for various incidents.

The other one was when in the tiebreak and Serena hit a second serve return that was in but called out and she challenged and it was in, Venus had gotten her racket on the ball, but didn't get it over the net, but once again Anarena doesn't know the rules of challenges, if you put your racket on the ball then you replay the point. But I guess ignorance is bliss for her:o
