First meeting, and I have no idea how they'll match up with each other.

Hopefully Szavay.

Hopefully Szavay.

I seem to remember they played in Fed Cup last year (WTA Tour head-to-head records do not include matches from Fed Cup Zonals, for some reason) and Schnyder won in three sets.

Sure enough:

R2 - P.SCHNYDER (SUI) def. A.SZAVAY (HUN)
6-4 3-6 6-1

I'd think Szavay would match up quite well with Schnyder: good side-to-side mover. Capable of creating her own pace on the backhand, along with being able to drive it deep both crosscourt and DTL. Forehand capable of pushing Schnyder behind the baseline on her backhand side. She has all the tools to crush Schnyder, but if nerves and other factors are able to upset her rhythm I think her Swiss opponent can take advantage.

Either way these girls own two of the most aesthetically-appealing games on tour at the moment, so I am very much looking forward to this match. Title #12 would be nice.

That being said, I chose Szavay in two. Schnyder rarely shows up for finals since she won Cincinatti in 2005.

Szavay [...] good side-to-side mover

Disagree, but I feel that this and all other technical minutiae will be immaterial tomorrow.

Women's lower tier claycourt matches tend to become choking contests. We'll see who chokes the least.

I agree with iPatty's analysis.

This match, unless turned sour by errors will be extremely pleasing to watch as both possess fluidity, variety, and good footwork.

I really hope Szavay wins. Like her more, it's in her home country, and she really needs to get some confidence in order to play well a lot more of the time. I wouldn't be too upset if Patty wins either because it may keep her going longer.

I feel Patty needs this to keep her motivation going, Agnes wants her confidence back. I pick Schnyder in 3.

:worship: At Patty for randomly making it through the draw. Good use of a wild card.

Hopefully she is motivated enough to get the win, experience and her clay court game should get her the win...but who knows. I haven't seen her play since Madrid.

Think I voted for Patty in three:cool: Would be an awesome result and safely place her back in the top 20 for a little while longer.:bounce:

Hopefully Patty can grab another title.

Is this an international event? Would love to see Patty qualify for Bali at least!

Did anyone watch the semi's? I don't know what kind of form either player is in.

yeah,i went to see Ági live throughout the week, and she has played better and better (yesterday she practically destroyed Alona, although most people expected a 3set match).so, i hope she will peak today. Unfortunately, i didn't see Patty's semis. But if none of them chokes badly, this match should really be the highlight of the whole tournament.
