With a nice all-court game that incorporates her heavy topspin forehand and her beautiful backhand down the line.

Obviously not like she's playing now. :o

Exactly. I think we will see a lot of French players losing in the next day or two so that they will be able to make it for Montcourt's funeral.

@Chiakifug : I think so. There are many reactions from french players in french press : Tsonga shared his room 2 years with Montcourt when they were at the Insep etc ... they are all close buddies especially this generation : Tsonga, Gasquet, Montfils, Cornet etc. Even though Alizé isn't at the level she was last year, it's clear that she had her head somewhere else. :(

She has some of the heaviest top spin on the women's tour on the backhand and forehand.
She was able to stay with a lot of players with better fitness.

But the fact is Peer is probably even more feisty than Cornet.
There have been some tough 2nd round matches in these small clay tournis and this was one of them.
Regardless of Cornet grieving, I still think she would have trouble beating Peer.
Peer still reminds me of Sandrine Testud in the way that she doesn't usually beat herself, especially on clay.
Also Shahar has a better net game than Cornet, IMO.

It seems that Cornet got figured out pretty fast by everybody else on the Tour.

Prime (2007) Peer played this grinding game much better than Cornet ever did anyway.

Also Shahar has a better net game than Cornet, IMO.

She doesn't. She's hopeless at the net in fact. Cornet isn't a Novotna either, but she makes up for that with agility, quick thinking and resourcefulness.

Uhm, you clearly didn't see the match today. Shahar had lots of great swing volleys and smashes, and I remember just a few times Cornet was at the net and she lost two of those points. Even at the practice, I noticed Cornet barely made the volleyes , so yeah Shahar is not a natural volleyers but she can clearly volley and has a good technique on the volleys, and based on the match today she has the better net play. I think doubles helped her alot in that.

I'll try to get some highlights of the match from the sports news to show you.

Alize, just retire. You suck.

I said last year that Alize would be nothing more than a "clay court specialist". Now she ain't shit.

Did you see the last game where Alize argued with the umpire for over a minute about a bad call? She was really upset (the ball was good - Peer and the umpire were pointing to the wrong mark, replays showed) although the match was lost by then. She probably needs to take a little break from tennis.

Pretty much.

That being said, the outcome of this match isn't surprising. The brutal score on the other hand is.

really unexpected, but this year more than ever she has head problems, i haven't seen a match where she hasn't cried or only quarreled with the umpire...take a break pleaz

Gee it's not like Peer is a shit player or anything. This is a girl that reached 2 GS quarter finals in 07 and was on the verge of the top 10. Once she gets her game together she is VERY dangerous.

Lovely score :lick: Shahar has been playing solidly for most of the year (unlike last year, but finally she overcame Martinez and co. :fiery:), and the only reason this doesn't reflect on her ranking yet is that unfortunate injury in May.
She will be back to her natural place in the top 30 (don't know about her CH of #15 though) in a few months, wait and see.

Cornet :o I'm happy about Shahar winning, but I'm a fan of her too, and this is worrying. She was so nice to watch last year.
