Catholic orders in Poland have slammed the singer Madonna for being anti-Christian and are threatening mass demonstrations if she does not change the date of her concert in the country.
The Unum Principum Catholic Society which initiated the protests, says that because the 51-year-old singer’s 15th August concert in the Catholic country is scheduled to take place on a religious day, to perform would be ‘sacrilege’.

“It harms our religious sentiment. Besides that, Madonna’s performances are anti-Christian,” said Krzysztof Zagozda from Unum Principum. He added that in his opinion the concert had been organized on the Catholic feast day as a clear attempt to stir up controversy.

Marian Brudzinski from the Mazowiecki regional assembly has announced that a protest committee is being formed to prevent the singer performing.

“Madonna cannot sing on the day of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We are calling for a moral stand in Warsaw,” he said.

The committee will meet next week to gather signatures from parishes and intends to send the petition to Poland’s Interior Minister, Grzegorz Schetyna, in the hope that he will cancel the gig.

“We will do everything so as not to allow this scandal to take place,” Brudzynski says, adding, “If that does not work out, there will be a massive picket at the concert. We want to stifle Madonna.”

Ridiculous. If the church doesn't like her ignore her and don't go to the concert. It's like saying I don't want the pope to visit Berlin while there is Gay Pride because he is anti-gay and he harms the sentiment of our city.

What holiday is this anyways?

Her concerts sold out in like 3 minutes - even if they protest, they will be a tremendously small minority.

Madonna isn't catholic so I don't understand why she shouldn't be able to do her show while the catholics are off stuffing their faces? If you don't like it, don't go.

She was raised Catholic. Considering all the anti-Catholic symbolism and rhetoric she uses, this really doesn't surprise me.
