LATEST NEWS from the official website

Patty Schnyder tops the waiting list
The 21 players who qualify for the main draw on the basis of their ranking can muster 24 tour titles and 21 final appearances this year alone. And in the wake of the elite there are such quality names as Iva Majoli (currently ranked 23), Lisa Raymond (24) and Barbara Schett (37) who are all on stand-by in case of withdrawals. On the day of the cut-off for entries, Patty Schnyder was ranked 24, therefore not in the main draw. Since the US Open Schnyder has risen to 18th, and currently occupies the top slot in the waiting list for the Swisscom Challenge main draw.

Well, it will be really funny to see names like Lisa Raymond, Iva Majoli and Barbara Schett to play qualifying!! If that's really going to be the case, then I believe it will be the strongest and toughest qualifying draw for the year!!

First wildcard goes to Anna Kournikova
The first of the three wildcards that Beat Ritschard has at his disposal has been reserved for Anna Kournikova. The 21-year-old Russian has worked her way back to 38th in the rankings after missing most of last year with a series of foot injuries. Kournikova's inclusion opens up the possibility for her to resume her attractive and highly successful doubles partnership with Martina Hingis - the two won this year's Australian Open, their second Grand Slam title together, and were quarter-finalists at the recent US Open. The two other wildcards won't be allocated until the week before the tournament. Ritschard explains: "We want to allow ourselves time to make the right decisions, so we're waiting to see what happens in the next couple of tournaments." Ritschard says he has his eye on both Myriam Casanova and Marie-Gaïané Mikaelian, who have each won their first tournament on the Sanex WTA Tour this year.

Lucky Anna!!! Of coz' it is the right decision to give her a WC if the organizers wanna make a profitable business!! ;)

I was working at the Swisscom Challenge the last 2 years and I really can't imagine a field like this would happen. In fact, the entry list last year looked also pretty great but many of the players pulled out 2 or 3 weeks before the tournament.

And I don't really get it what Dementieva is doing in this entry list. After her first round loss last year against Mikaelian she acted so stupid with saying this was the worst tournament and that she was hoping to never come back to Zurich...

How did Amanda take Venus' place? She wasn't on the original commitment list.
I'm sure someone or more than one will withdraw and Patty will get in.

The top players have to committ to a certain # of tier Is but that doesn't mean they can't withdraw.

Why Monica picked this event, which is so crowded, instead of Moscow.

I am hoping none of the players on the entry list will withdraw... It's a very strong tournament... Hope they all be fit and healthy to play their best against each other...

Probably because of Travel. Hopefully she'll play Linz too.
But as long as shes in JCaps half, she could very well get to the Final, as the #3 seed shed probably play Smashnova, Clijsters and JCap from round 3 to SF, who she all owns
