View Full Version : Serena: Wozniacki Can End Our Domination

Yet she knows she is well ahead of the field at present, while not being complacent about the situation. And unusually, she singled out one particular player as having great potential.

‘I think Wozniacki is really good,’ she said. ‘But I think there will be others out there now who I don’t even know about yet.’

Serena??? Really? Azarenka dont impress you, have you heard of her??!! Wozniacki?? Really??

I think Serena got to know her a little bit better when she and Caroline helped out with Andy Roddick's charity last year. Other than that, she must like her game...and let's not forget their match in Sydney earlier this year. I think Serena had to save 3 mps...maybe 2.

Do you know when this quote was taken?

ETA: The title of the thread is quite misleading IMO.

Exactly, say something nice to boost the confidence of somebody, who isn´t a threat anyway, but when you trash her, like you know you will, it looks mighty impressive. Besides Wozniacki is the youngest, so she is the most likely to be around, when the Williams sisters decline or quit.

Serena didn't actually day that Wozniacki can end the WS domination , as that implies that she'll be trashing both of them at Wimby in the next couple of years. What she said was that the Williams sisters themselves will end their domination by retiring and then out of the ones left Wozniacki will be a top contender ;)

Caro had match points against Serena easrlier this year, and even though Serena wasnt playing good, Wozniacki was outplaying her. (Thats when I actually started liking Caro, her game has gone downhil after that, too much passive ).

If Serena didnt compliment Vika because she considers Vika as a threat, then she wouldnt have complimented Caro either, as Caro almost beat her earlier this year.

Serena is an honest person, and will say whatever she thinks is true.

Wozniacki beat Serena in an exhibition and had 4 match points against her in a WTA match at the age of 18.

Azarenka only beat an injured Serena at the age of 19 and then got crushed in the rematch when Serena was healthy.

I'm not saying Wozniacki > Azarenka because I believe Azarenka is the better player right now, but maybe that's why Wozniacki has impressed Serena more than Azarenka?

Just an idea.

Do I honestly think Caroline will end the sisters' domination? Not really. I mean, the sisters will probably retire before Caroline peaks anyway.

OMG you people really should be stand up comedians. NOT!!!

Vika wins one match and she's suddenly a HUGE rival.

Vika has potential I agree but until she delivers, she's just a player with potential. Lots of young players have a great season, here and there but sustaining it is another thing.

Forgetting AO -09 and it's not like Serena has not handled Vika easily the other times. BTW Dani beat Serena once too, do you think Serena is threatened and that's why she never mentioned Dani?

Caro is an OK player. But she has the type of game that would frustrate Serena (and maybe Venus?) immensely.
And I dont get the Azarenka hype at all, either. She doesnt move well enough to trouble the elite players.

but serena would have to be off her game horribly like in sydney....caro needs to find a weapon though...she's still young enough to do so, but so many balls i see her stay back and just push back on instead of stepping into the court...she will lose a whole lot of easy points like that which may be costly in big matches

Caro doesn't have any huge strengths, but she has no glaring weaknesses except maybe inexperience beating top players?

She plays patiently, covers the court well, plays consistently, constructs points well, and most importantly, she enjoys what she's doing! YEAH!

She was the first of the U20's to have breakthrough results so naturally she got bandwagon by board members and labeled the best of her group.

Caro will most likely defend her RU position at USO, and will such be less than 600 points after Serena. Caro has virtually no points to defend until IW bar YEC, where she reached the semi final. Serena won YEC and thus have even more points to defend. The question is when Serena will return and in what form. I'd say she has a real good shot at the #1 spot.

Have you read what Serena said: she called her 'good'! She didn't say she was going to dominate, win multiple slams. There is absolutely no comparison between the talents of the Williams sisters and Caroline.

If Serena capitulates her numerous all court talents and skills to Caroline it will be unforgiveable. And if Caroline does reign supreme at no 1 it will be short lived - there HAS to be a player up and coming who plays to WIN who can show her up.

No, she's not as good as Serena.
Yes, she's pretty fucking good, she's almost certain to win some slams and be #1 and her court coverage and her backhand are going to hurt your favorite just as badly as they've hurt mine. She's even added a little mustard to her serve. So you'd better get used to it.

Props to Serena for seeing the potential long before anyone else said anything remotely close about Wozy's potential. She said this back in the summer of 09- long before her great run at the US Open... and the irony is that Wozniacki is the player to end Serena's longest run at number one.

A tier 1. You know, the level just below slams.

Guess the next thing you'll say is that there is nothing BIG left once Wozzy wins her first slam

1 this year, and 3 the second half of last year

How about the 2 Slams & the YEC between "those" Premier 5 ??

Wozniacki isn't dominating right now:shrug:. Clijsters is. And by the time Clijsters retires, some new up and coming star such as Robson will fulfil their potential and it is they who will dominate the tour, not Pushniacki who would have faded away from the limelight just like how Safina did. So Serena isn't right, I don't see the point of bumping this thread.

Don't change the subject. You said she didn't win anything big and I showed you she won 4 of the biggest titles in the last 52 weeks.

The biggest titles are the SLAMS. And she hasn't won any of them.

Indeed. But their hypotheses have been right so far. Regarding the top 10 spot, #1 spot, tier 1's, former world #1's etc. So there is a good chance that the hypothese will hold again.

But let me ask you this: Will you recognize that Caroline Wozniacki has won something big if she wins a slam?

Well then you should know that when he says BIG, he meant MAJORS so yeah Wozniacki didn't win anything BIG. Period.

We will see. Caro at 20, #1, playing the level she plays at..
She is in a good situation right now.
But yes, she needs to do better at majors. She should have played Kim in the last 2 slam finals.
She has to take the next step at majors. I think she is still improving, and we'll see..

can't you let her and her fans be happy for a little longer?
if she dominates in the future, she dominates. no point arguing she WON'T dominate.

:haha: False. Serena said and was thouroughly convinced that Venus will win USO 2010... amazing how she got this one wrong and you have just omitted to point that out.

A lucky thing I'm here to carefully correct people's omissions. :yeah:

I can understand the sister love but to tell a lie because of it is inconceivable... Serena is an angel with a clean heart who really thought Vee was going to win but was solely wrong.

It's not surprising that Serena was right about Caroline having potential. Everyone thought she was crazy for saying this but Serena doesn't regularly give these type of compliments to just any player. She knows what it takes to get to the top.

She has a good sense of things, but she ain't a miracle worker!! Venus SHOULD have won that semi against Clijsters..she was right in that the tournament SHOULD have been her's for the taking..but Venus!!
