View Full Version : Who made you a fan this Wimbledon?

For me:

Dulko; Loved her strategy against Masha, and yes, she's hot. :hearts:

Dementieva; I've been on and off with her almost her whole career; but I think I'm finally a fan; loved her attack against Serena, and some of her play was  Her serve has come on leaps and bounds - I always have so much respect for a player who continues to work no their game throughout their whole career, instead of just standing still/being lazy etc. Even after all this time she wants to be the best she can be and improve. Love it.

Sabine Lisicki; VERY attractive game - beautiful serve, lovely groundies (particularly FH) and actually looks like she enjoys tennis. Good for the game if she can continue this form.

Elena Vesnina; well she didn't do very well against Lena D. but her game is pretty...pretty!

Sorana Cirstea; I liked what I saw in RG against JJ, and I liked what I saw against Vika.

Vika Azarenka; something about her is really growing on me. Only a matter of time before she's a slam champ IMO. I like that she has a bit of fire in her, but I liked her friendliness with Serena too.

Melanie Oudin; simply because she has a bit pluck.

Anyone you've added to your sig maybe; or maybe struck off?! :tape:

I became a fan of Lisicki big time. I knew she could play, but just the almost carefree quality of her enjoying tennis was refreshing. She's almost like Clijsters in that sense. I even added her to my Facebook, lol.

I had already had Sabine and Mel in my signature, but became much bigger fans of them.

I went from respecting to Dinara, to laughing at her patheticness. Thus, she got the signature cut.

...and, sadly, Serena is growing on me.

Well after that near assault on the linesman and her outrageous behaviour throughout her match with Petrova which involved a two finger salute at the chair umpire and swear words directed at her + the linesman amongst other things and her still not getting any warnings it's hard to continue supporting her. She's nearly 20 years old , not a hormonal teenager that she had to behave that way , and it wasn't the first time either. After her tantrum in Rome I "forgave" her as players get annoyed like that all the time but her behaviour in that match against Petrova was indefensible.

Azarenka...saw her at this years FO and she was going dolally when playing Saurez-Navarro...at times she reminded me of a young Mary Pierce in her antics...she's a bit chavish...could be down to the people behind her

Lisicki made me a fan so I'll actually follow her career see what she can do in the future, hopefully she'll work on a few things & win a slam one day. Also Dementieva, I was never anti-her but I was never really a fan either, she was just a "meh" to me really but her match against Serena really got me to appreciate her game & I was incredibly impressed by her serving that day. Great match all round that one.

I do, but I didn't fully believe she could outright win a slam until this match.

Before I thought if she would win one it would be one of those planets align draws where a lot of upsets happened early to top players.

Now, I think she can win with more or less who is in front of her with THAT form.

This is so random though, but I think if Dementieva and Azarenka meet during US Series or USO it will be one of the matches of the year. They really match up well.

I grew to like Sabine much more. She is so raw at the moment, and it's gonna be fun to watch how her game evolves. :p She's such a carefree girl on court too. :hearts: LenaD is back on my faves' list; I was rooting for Serena through the semi until the third set when I realized I really really wanted Lena to win this, and she didn't. :hysteric: Laura crept up into my top 3 faves with her inspired set and a half against Dani. I'm starting to like Aga a lot more after watching her beautiful grasscourt game (destroyed by Venus, yes, but still) and I hope she can make more Wimby runs in the future. :yeah:

I hate Azarenka than I did before now, if that was possible. Her immaturity is appalling. That horrible incident vs. the linesman and the umpire, coupled with her racket-bashing, screaming demeanour on court is so off-putting and frankly disturbing. I have gone from disliking her to despising and hating her.

Sabine Lisicki,I had seen her play in Eastbourne, not so well but she still had fun - therefore to see her perform so brilliantly at Wimbledon was great:yeah: I enjoy her personality, she is so refreshing on court, she laughs at her mistakes, and thoroughly enjoys being out there:bounce: She fights so hard, for every point.

Her game is evolving, she has some fantastic weapons, her serve and forehand in particular. She has the potential to become a really good all-court player, she has shown she is not afraid of the forecourt. I'm a big fan of hers now and will follow her with great interest:rocker2:

*probably Oudin, because i enjoyed her match against JJ - honestly i support all the JJ's opponents, but i enjoyed her game, but i think i need to watch her playing many other times before adding her to my list of faves!
*Hantuchova, i was in love with her some years ago, but then her game starts sucking so i quite forgot her, now she's on the way back and that's really good!

It has to be Serena. I thought Serena was out of shape and clumsy and I didn't like the fact that she made the rest of the tour look silly by winning big tournaments in spite of it. Hadn't played a truly great match since Sharapova in the Australian open final. She would stumble through the early rounds, then find her first serve and hold her nerve whilst the other pretenders lost theirs.

She's a champion, I have the utmost respect for her. Was serving last in third set of the semi and came through. Then beat the favourite sister Venus. I can't dislike her, there's a reason she has 10, sorry, 11 grand slams.

Took a step back in her victory press conference mind. I've always enjoyed her titles though.

Aside from the champ; Dulko and Lisicki - for gambling reasons.

Federer tried to kill me today. Boris Becker said it best on the BBC during the 2nd set tie break, "oh my god".

Sam Stosur and Rennae Stubbs in the doubles really got in to watching them play and they have alot of fun out there!

Melanie Oudin was great watching her, like her game and also she is genuinly sweet and just a bubble of excitment :D

Andy Murray for the obvious reason I am a Brit and we love our Andy, he will make the final one day!

Lleyton Hewitt had a fab run didnt realise how much I missed him but was a great Wimbledon for him and it did certainly roll back the years.

Amelie Mauresmos run was one of the main highlights for me as it was just heart warming to see her genuinly enjoying herself out on the court again and seeing her play the way she did gave me goosebumps and great flashbacks of 2006 :D

And lastly Laura Robson allthough she didnt win her first pro match she played a very solid game and I cant wait for her and her game to mature in the coming years, its so exciting to have such a promising British girl like Laura :D

I agree about Serena, I am not a fan of her and never will be but you really have to respect her as a player.

I didn't think I would say that years ago, but Andy Roddick, I really didn't want anybody to lose in the men's final and Roddick played amazingly well, and put his heart on it until the last shot. He used to really annoy me but I started to change about him when I heard how he could make fun of himself and this performance has me really cheering for him to win the US Open.

I know it's a women's forum but in the women's side, nobody really impressed me, including my favourite Ana Ivanovic.

Melanie Oudin - Got to love the puck of this youngster. She might be small but what she lacks in fire power she sure makes for with mental strength and a never say die attitude.

Sabine Lisicki is another play that caught my attention she plays with no fear and hits the ball really hard. I'm starting to see how she beat Lindsay in fed cup last year.

Venus Williams - Has been around a long time and until recently I cheered for her opponent. Now I cheer for her because she learnt to be graceful in victory and defeat. While I'm not full converted yet I'm well on the way. The last 18 months or so her whole attitude has changed and for the better. With age has come maturity.

Even though the result wasn't the one I really wanted, I still liked this Wimbledon.

Definitely grew to like Sorana and her game a lot more, and Oudin seems like a really fiesty/solid player too. Was already big fans of Vika and Caro. Cirstea is still impressing me. I like the fact that she isn't rushing to over-achieve with her game. It's a long-term process that could prove VERY succesful. Her serve and forehand in the next five years could be a fearsome 1-2 combination.
