View Full Version : At the US Open I don't want an All Williams Final

Serena has won two Grand Slams this year and Venus has none. Venus has not won a US Open Title since 2001. So I want to see Venus win the US Open without the added drama of facing Serena.

Serena could well be facing someone else if she makes it to the final.

Stop making errors and attack the net like she does at Wimbledon and she will have an US Open title.

If Venus really looked at the video of Dementieva and Serena (which she mentioned she was going to do), she would have noticed that Serena is slicing a lot on her backhand side.
She's not as fast on that side compared to her forehand side.
Instead of going after her forehand which is the obvious thing to do after the semis match, go after the backhand with angles, wait for the slice and then come in.

She didn't do it enough.

I hope there is another All Williams final.
Maybe that way I can see if Venus learned her lesson.
But with the way she played today, I could see Venus losing to a Dementieva or Azarenka on a hard court.

Is that sarcasm I sense? I'd love to see a Kim vs WS final, if Kim shows up to play. Of course no guarantee Kim will make it anywhere past the 1st round.

If Kim gets to 03 or 05 form, she is certainly Top 3 active players on hardcourts.

Others being Serena and healthy Maria.

 venus hasn't made the final in 7 years and has gone 2nd and 3rd round at 2 of the 3 slams this year, what makes you so sure venus will 'bring it' or that players wont be able to handle it this year like they have for the last 7?

Here's what I want at the US Open:

MEN'S SINGLES: Federer vs. Nadal
WOMEN'S SINGLES: Williams vs. Williams
MEN'S DOUBLES: Bryan/Bryan vs. Nestor/Zimonjic
WOMEN'S DOUBLES: Williams/Williams vs. Black/Huber
MIXED DOUBLES: Williams/Bryan vs. Williams/Bryan

The best vs. the best, and may the better of the best win. :yeah:

If they are really they best they should make the final. The best of that tournament will make the final.

2003 - Did not play
2004 - Lost to Hardcourt player of the season Davenport
2005 - Lost to Clijsters eventual champion, having had a set and break lead
2006 - Did not play
2007 - Lost to Henin, Eventual Champion in a 2 set thriller
2008 - Lost to Serena, Eventual champion in a 2 tiebreak thriller, having somewhere in the region of 10 set points.

Just to add a bit of perspective, she hasn't exactly been losing willy-nilly at the USO.

She'll be a top favourite again.

Not gonna be a good match after the drubbing WS gave Bluber this Wimbledon.

The best doubles team to be competitive Williams/Williams would be maybe Kuznetsova/Mauresmo or Petrova/Mattek again.

You need to have a quality ground game and serve to compete.

I just want too point out in that match Serena was not even trying too hit hard until the end of the match. I know Dementieva played good in that match but Serena played poorly. I knew where Dementieva server was going but it seems like serena didnt find where it was going too go too late in the third.

I agree with the OP I am tired of these all sisters finals because 80% of the time Venus LOSES. Venus does not give 150% when she plays Serena and this is a fact. I am tired of seeing Venus LOSING these grand slam finals against Serena. I want someone to knock Serena out of the US OPEN early.

so what you are saying is im right, no final in 7 years (which is what i said). it doesn't matter who she lost to, she lost. its no coincidence there has been someone in venus's way at the us open the last 4 times shes played because there are much better hardcourt players out there.

If venus wants to win another GS then she has to beat the best players ..included serena . Is it normal that a tennis fan think like you think ...? if venus cant overcome her feelings then she will always lose against serena , tennis is 50% mental adn 50% game , i am asking , will it be a great accomplishement if venus win without knocking serena her biggest problem ..?

It is an old story for me. I was hoping a Russian play in the final ladies singles Wimbledon this year.

Venus hasn't done well at other majors in recent years - only at Wimbledon she seems unbeatable.

Well before Serena won the US Open in 2008, she hadnt won the title since 2002. That was a six year drought. For Venus, getting to the final this year would be a 7 year drought. So it's not totally impossible. And I have no doubt in my mind that Venus and Serena were the two best hardcourt players in that US Open, it was a shame that one had to lose in the QF.

Venus to win the US Open :)

Serena is a definitely a better hard court player than Venus, but Venus is too good not to win another US Open.

There's a reason why she had those ten set points against Serena.

I am a Williams Fan! I want a Williams to win the US Open. But I am pulling for Venus because she has not won a major this year. But I don't want to see an All Williams Final this US Open because I think that Venus has a tougher time emotionally against Serena.

If Venus is fortunate to win the 2009 US Open, I will then hope for All Williams Finals at the Majors in 2010.

No, she doesn't. :o

If she plays well enough, she will be in the finals.

And if she plays well enough, she will win no matter who is on the other side of the net.

If she doesn't play well enough, she won't be in the final and therefore won't win. Pretty simple.
