Has this period been as good as Henin's recent period of dominance (07'/08).
Justine- (2 slams, 1 semi, 1/4)Heaven knows how many titles on the wta tour including YEC, and practically the entire period at no.1 vs Serena- 3 slams, 1/4 and a 12 or so week (?) stint at no.1?

I really don't know, I mean Henin was SOOOOO fabulous during that period of 4 slams, whereas Serena HASN'T been EXCEPTfor the slams. Then again, everyone remembers the slams. Not much else.

:confused::confused:

Can we say 4 1st rd losses?

Henin's period of in 07 was fire. She was beating everybody and winning tournaments left and right.
Serena's past 10 months doesn't compare.

She was injured in some of her losses though. But definitely, I wasn't denying she has been roppy outside the slams

I think the thing is, even though HENIN was on fire, she STILL didn't manage to hold 3 of the 4 slams. Hence we have a discussion

Henin had to beat Serena didnt she though ;) and she did
now if Serena did the same.......... then they both would be equal

But she was consistent in and out of the slams which is why she was SOLIDLY the #1 player and Serena is still #2 now despite her slam record.

Precisely the point I made in my opening post. Though, Serena has held the no.1 spot during her 3/4 slam period! ;)

Henin's #1 status was far above Serena's #1 status (2nd time around). How long did Serena hold it for? How many points above the #2 player was she?
Answer those questions before equating Henin's #1 with Serena's ;)

Obviously not making it clear enough to you, that I am AGREEING with ya! ;) In terms of consistency Serena's period is nothing on Justine's, but those 3 slams are worth a heck of a lot!

Yeah I agree....mostly it just the slams people remember...and I'm sure Justine's still kicking herself for taking her eye off the ball against Marion Bartoli....

You can't compare. Justine was a combination of Dinara's winning week in week out tournaments and then winning 2 majors, and a semifinalist in another, beating Serena in all 3 of those majors and the other slam champ, Venus, in the semis of her U.S. Open. She also held Toronto, Antwerp, Stuttgart, Zurich, Eastbourne, and a few other tournaments. Didn't she have almost a 3,000 point lead on the field?

Serena, on the other hand, had a brief stint twice at number one for a few weeks, she lost to Li Na, Klara Zakopalova, Francesca Schiavone, and Patty Schnyder in the first round of tournaments, and only won U.S. Open, Australian Open, and Wimbledon. She hasn't even really shown up at other events.

Justine's dominance showed that she was at a high level, and could do so ALL THE TIME, so her's was seriously better than Serena's.

and that's a bad thing why? Serena also got straight setted by Venus last year.

Even though I detest Justine personally, there is no denying the fact that she was an incredible tennis player--especially the period in question. I voted for her. :tape:

Any remotely intelligent and informed person will concur with this.
Sadly this excludes 3/4 of the Serena fans. No surprise she leads the poll.

Anyway I'm off to a party.

Anyway, Henin's 2007 >>>> Serena's current year

What's with the random comparison though, why is Henin still so significant?

Who said anything about a calendar year? This is a measure of four slams periods. Serena's USO 08 to Wimbledon 09, vs. Henin's FO 07 (I'm assuming) to AO 08 (I'm assuming).

No, the OP mentions titles won and stints at no.1 during the year.

Bartoli's a mediocre player is why.

Not really. She's a Wimbledon finalist and top 10 player. At her best she's easily one of the best on grass. That's not mediocre.

Justine only had 2 slams. Serena has 3. End of the day, no one will judge you because you lost in the first round of Marbella. They judge if you win slams (or if you choke away semifinals after being 61 51 :tape:)

She's not a BAD player; but she's not someone a top player should lose to at a major either.

Henin's loss at that WImbledon is going to stay on her mind for a long while, I think.
