Impossible to break

Venus nearly did it, had it not been for that :help: forehand pass that landed long at 4-3 in the first.

Never underestimate Serena. She always comes back even stronger after a tough and close match. She was simply unbeatable today.

Just far too much on serve. Even for Venus who returns better on grass than perhaps anyone. Mixing up the serve so well with the slice out-wide in the Deuce court and then the flatter serve down the T in the Ad court. Serena's serve is never predictable and Venus just could'nt pick it.

Even when Venus got a return back, Serena backs it up so well by getting into an offensive position. It gave Venus too many issues to deal with.

Really? It took Serena a set and a half to do so.

Thats why she didn't face a single bp in th first set and was only broken twice.

Impossible to break Serena today, although, she DID have a 2nd serve on one of her 2bps I think

How many aces did Serena serve this Wimbledon? It has to be in the 70s

The missed passing shot was the key point.

Serena had one of her "in the zone" games today. When this happens there is nothing ANY opponent can do. Venus played well, but was helpless against zoned out Serena.

I don't understand this. We are talking about one of the greatest serving performances ever by a woman, and this is what you reply?

The game revolves around players, i really don't get why you just posted something so trollish. I am so surprised.

Similar achievement threads were posted for other players are frequently moved to player forums. I would expect a similar action by mods.

EDIT: And I did have a reply to the thread about Venus having the break points in the first. :o

thanxnothin, your signature cracks me up. and u must change ten to eleven slams. it was definitely hard to break serena today. venus was holding serve in that first set. i just knew if it got to a tiebreak, serena would win it. neither player was giving their points away on their serve. but serena got closer and closer to breaking down venus' serve as the games progressed. venus on the other hand had to keep guessing. things happen so fast on grass and if you aren't ready for the next shot, the match will be over. serena played super aggressive in that second set. she had the first one under her belt and decided to just go for her shots. well done serena

I think Carillo said 72.

I know she served 20 on Thursday. :sobbing:

Do people really enjoy watching ace after ace or unreturnable though?

Wasn't TOO entertaining but it was competitive, sadly, only Serena could keep it up! :crying2:

The Men's final tommorow will be THIS, minus all the great bouts of athletic rallies/

Venus had her chances but was too stubborn to just get the serve back into play, she missed many service returns.

Regardless, Serena was serving amazing. She really found the placement and knew exactly where she wanted to go with it. She really brought her best serve to the final.

Serena's serve motion is so perfect, so fluently. when her serve is clicking her competitors have no. she then relaxes and attack her opponents serve like she did to Venus today.

Both sisters were holding their serves fine and Venus has break point against Serena, she just played a lack luster game and didn't capitalize on her break. Serena served no differently than she has been during the entire tournament. Venus just didn't show up period. If the truth be told, Elena Dementieva would have beaten Venus today. I'm sorry, but that's just the truth.

Vee had a huge chance at 4-3* 40-30, but the FH pass sailed long.

She did not. She had a clutch 2nd serve on the 1st, and Venus had the easy pass on the next shot (Serena left herself extremely vulnerable at the net, there was a similar point last year) and missed the forehand long.

As much as I hate to acknowledge this, I was having these same thoughts. I think Venus draw was weaker (including #1 Safina). However, Serena was in one of her "in the zone" matches that she occasionally treats her fans with. Examples: Miami vs Venus 2002, US Open vs Hingis 2001, AO 2007 vs Maria, Miami 2007 vs Maria, RG 2003 vs Amile, Wimbledon 2004 VS Jennifer.... There are more but this should do.
As for Elena's performance, I think it is the best she has played since her loss to Lindsay Davenport in US Open 2000. I think she really has the best grondstrokes in the game, and with her very much improved serve, she IS a contender that no player should take lightly. Think of the number of matches she won when so had escentially no serve to speak of.

Stellar seving performance, its amazing how her serve never goes on vacation, whether the rest of her game is there (today) or not (parts of the SF with Lena)) lol.

Truly the best serve in WTA history!
