So, is Dementieva really hurting from this missed opportunity of playing an injured Venus in the final, or is Venus upset that Dementieva couldn't convert mp to guarantee her a 6th Wimbledon title?

I think Lena D missed her opportunity. She's really becoming a consistent grass court player and would probably have beat Venus who was off her game today.

Without a doubt Venus for sure. There is no way Lena could have defeated Venus.

But was Venus off because she was off, or because of the situation? GS finals are GS finals; you can't say so-and-so would have won because they played better in some other match; it all changes once you get to this stage; look at V; brilliant for three rounds, dreadful for the most important one. :help:

But yes - I wish it had been a Lena-Venus final.

Was Venus injured?

My commentators (Vijay Amritraj and Louise Fleming) were saying that she was injured, in reference to her taped up knee, to explain her poor play.

Well I bet Vee would have played well against someone else, but yes I was totally thinking that.

She's had that tape since her 2R match and it hasn't affected her. Must be some other reason she didn't play well then.

If it was Elena vs Venus in the final I dont think Papa Richard would told Venus to play bad like he did today.

You're probably right, since it was just an assumption from them at best.

Are you out of your rabbit mind? If anything maybe some people might wish the Serena / Dementieva match was the final since it was so exciting. But HELL NO- do I wish anyone else on the planet won todays match.

Not only did the right person winn Wimbledon today, but the best player in the world now has ELEVEN SLAMS!!! I'm glad Serena was given the opportunity to remind everyone, once again, why she's the best!!!

To imagine trading this feeling in for the chance of seeing Dementieva in the final is downright laughable!!! This is the most hilarious thread of all time, thanks for the laugh!!

I agree a lot of it had to do with the fact that she was playing Serena, but Lena D in the semifinal was matching Serena's strokes, serve, and almost matching her mental fortitude. Basically I'm saying Venus wouldn't be playing the same Lena D she's beaten 8 times.

Continued use contributes to wear and tear.

Apparently both Oracene and Richard made comments that indicated Vee's leg had been troubling her and the tape is more than just precautionary. But they didn't want that news to get out. Odds are they let it finally come out because Rena probably knew the status of Vee's fitness, if I had to guess.

But as far as this thread? Who knows? Lena didn't make the final. For this year, she'll have to settle for being on the losing end of the best match of the tournament, and perhaps the best ladies semi, ever. I hope it was a step forward. We'll just have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, by any rational standard she had a great tournament. I'd have loved to see her play one more match, but remember a lot of pundits and posters had her pegged to be the first high seed to be eliminated.
