Hey everyone. :wavey: I haven't been able to be here much because life is pretty busy! But, I have been watching the tennis very closely. So instead of hunting through the threads and posting I thought I'd post a thread to give my opinions on what has happened so far at Wimbledon.

1. WOW - what a match between Serena and Elena yesterday! I was impressed by Elena because she kept her level up for the entire match. For her to play that well and not win is really an injustice, but let's not forget Serena Williams was on the other side of the net - the game's best fighter. I think the turning point in the match was when Elena was serving at 3-4 in the first set. She fell behind 0-40, and had Serena broken there she probably would have won the set. But Elena saved those break points and went on win the set - and I think that upset Serena that she wasn't able to close the set out there. Give Serena plenty of credit for hanging tough. You can never measure the heart of a champion - and how many times has she come back from match point to win a match!? She's the best escape artist the game has ever seen.

2. Venus was so classy in her response to questions about whether or not her victory over Safina was demeaning to women's tennis. She got down-right snippy with the reporter who asked that question! LOL I thought it was funny how she said she respected Dinara's game yet beat her 1 and 0. But it's not Venus's fault that Dinara didn't rise up to the challenge. Venus played the match and did what she had to do, and she can only control her side of the net (she said all this, too). Considering the pain in her knee, Venus has still played some terrific tennis here. I like what Brad Gilbert said - back in the day three of the four Grand Slams were played on grass. Imagine if that were the case today - she'd be challenging Steffi Graf's record! Wow. Safina has some major work to do if she wants to win a Grand Slam - she had better hope a Williams isn't on her side of the draw. She's won 4 games off of them and has been bageled twice at the majors this year. :o :help:

3. How about the young Melanie Oudin! And Jankovic's comments after the match were totally classless and just a poor cop-out - she isn't the only woman on tour that has a period - they all do! That was just low IMO. But Melanie looked great out there, and she gives us Americans hope that there's life after VSL (Venus Serena and Lindsay).

4. Poor Maria. Bless the girl's heart. She just hasn't been the same since her surgery. But this is to be expected; it will take time for her to get back where she was. Serena took a while to regain dominant form after her knee surgery in '04 - and even she admits that she came back too fast. Maria will get there, but other players aren't as intimidated by her anymore.
