Don't you just love the bitchy cold handshake Dementieva gave Serena yesterday?
The more the hate the better the rivalry.

Problem with the Williams sisters rivalry is they don't hate each other.

Sharapova-Serena needs to pick up from where they left off.

I think I really like the Azarenka - Sharapova rivalry.

Basically version 2.0 vs. version 1.0

Ivanovic vs. Sharapova had some potential:

Linz SF - Sharapova wins 7/6, 7/5
Tokyo SF - Ivanovic wins 6/1 ret.
Roland Garros SF - Ivanovic wins 6/1, 6/2
Australian Open F - Sharapova wins 7/5, 6/3

Now that they're both off form or injured, they need to play each other more. They were looking like they'd be fighting each other for Slam finals and semis for a long time.

Elena's handshake was cold and bitchy? They smiled at eachother from what i saw and they were both very complimentary of each other in there press conferences.

JJ and Venus was a good rivalry when both were on form. They had a few great matches.

yeah I was surprised how friendly the handshake was actually. I don't think they have issues with each other.

You're right! I forgot about that. It was good while it lasted. Petrova/Serena had some brilliant moments too.

I guess this goes back to what I said earlier, the top women need to meet up more frequently to make women's tennis exciting. The WTA is not getting the most out of the Williams sisters' dominance. Pretty soon they won't be dominating anymore, and women's tennis will bemoan the missed opportunities!

Say what you want about the Venus-Serena rival in the early 00s but there's no doubting that it has become a high quality, intense rivalry in the last coupe of years.

It's not an in-your-face rivalry like Capriati-Serena or Hingis-Williams but it is an intense sisterly rivalry that is fascinating. More so, because increasingly they're meeting in the grand slams.

So it gets my vote.

Can't say I have a favorite rivalry, outside of V vs S.

I voted Sharapova-Serena, but that's about the online fanbases, not the players. I hope the next time Dinara Safain plays Venus Williams, she files her incisors to a point. And if Venus wins tomorrow, I almost hope ELena Dementieva wins the US Open. Almost. Beating Serena something 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 -ish. A three-and-a-half hour blunt force trauma in hundred degree heat.

Nah. OZ 2010 would be better. Same score, same heat. Let Serena defend the US. Against .... hmm.. Vera Zvonareva has played SO well this year.....

Here's my favorite rivalries now that I've had a chance to really think about it:

Dementieva - Serena
Jankovic - Serena
Ivanovic - Sharapova
Sharapova - Serena
Sharapova - Venus
Zvonareva - Dementieva
Wozniacki - Dementieva
Azarenka - Sharapova
Serena - Azarenka
Kuznetsova - Dementieva

Wow...Dementieva in so many of my favorites. However, if Clijsters returns with good form, I can add these again:

Venus - Clijsters
Serena - Clijsters
Jankovic - Clijsters

I must have seen a different handshake. Lena was quite warm and smiled at Serena.
