Player X's results outside of the Big 6.

SF Stanford
QF Olympics
R2 Stuttgart
SF Sydney
SF Paris
SF Dubai
R1 Marbella
R2 Rome
R1 Madrid

In 4 events, bolded, Player X did not win a match.

Now, are these the results you'd expect from a player holding the US Open, and Australian Open crowns, and a Wimbledon finalist?

No?

No.

When the WTA's ranking system forces u to play 3 events in close proximity when you have an injury that needs rest, the answer is YES.

Why new thread?

Because I can.

As far as I know all players play under the same rules of the WTA.

Marbella is not a mandatory, also.

Marbella is not a mandatory, also. She can still be fined if she withdrew.

I don't see it as a debacle. IF Serena wants to be YE #1, she knows she has to do well at some WTA tournaments.
Dinara is trying to win a title at every tournament she plays.

Serena is happy winning slams.

And she's made it clear that she feels Safina has earned the #1 ranking.

The point of this thread is not to blame Serena for the rankings, just to verify. It's just a freak thing that is happening right now. You'd think a player who wins the US Open, wins the Australian Open, and possibly wins/definately reaches the final of Wimbledon would win SOME events outside of the Big 6. But this time she hasn't. Injury, fatigue... I don't care about why. The ranking system does not need changing, it's just that THIS hasn't happened before. This being, the best player (Serena) failing outside of the slams due to whatever reason, while a lesser player (Safina) performs almost as consistently as humanly possible everywhere, including the slams.

SF Wimbledon
SF 's-Hertogenbosch
RU French Open
W Madrid
W Rome
RU Stuttgart
R3 Miami
QF Indian Wells
R2 Dubai
RU Australian Open
RU Sydney
W Los Angeles
W Montreal
RU Olympics
SF US Open
W Tokyo
QF Stuttgart
SF Moscow
RR YEC

19 events. 14 SF or better. For a player of Safina's standing (not a GS champion), has this level of consistency really been seen before?

This is why the rankings are the way they are right now. Safina surely can't keep this up, and Serena will have to win a non-GS title sooner or later. Don't change the ranking system, just wait it out.

You're kidding, right? A certain someone would put Alona and Kat Bondarenko in the top 10 every week.

The Big Six?

4 Slams?
Olympics?
YEC?

It's just that you didn't put her Miami result in your list?

If they did it by voting, that might create some publicity for the tour.
