I absolutely roasted in the bare sunlight on Ct 3 to watch this match :sobbing:

It was great to see AMG/VRP so effective on grass, this is the second match I've seen from them this year. In both of them, they had various problems and deficits but NEVER have I seen them at all worried. It's so calming to watch, they just always believe they will win even though it's on their worst surface and they've had such a crap year (pre-RG).

Typical gritty points from AMG/VRP, grinding out points from difficult positions with little dinks and shots that just put their opponents in the trickiest positions. From the ground it looked like Kleybanova/Makarova could overpower AMG/VRP but they were too inconsistent to do that, and when AMG or VRP got to net their chances of winning the points were less. Makarova in the end missed some dreadful smashes/volleys I think in frustration. I have to say this tournament AMG has hugely improved her volleying. Now a difficult but very winnable semi vs Stosur/Stubbs.

We watched the match from the players lounge above the courts and agree with everything you've said. So long as Medina holds her cool, I think they could beat Stubbs & Stosur

Lucky you, you had shade :ras: ;)

Yeah I think in a way Stosur/Stubbs start as slight favourites purely by the surface and the way they play, but it's a very close call either way. Virginia is by FAR the most solid mentally of the 4 when it comes to this stage of a Grand Slam, which will count for alot no doubt. It's the type of match where Sam/Rennae will have to win in 2, or AMG/VRP will win in 3.

I agree. When I saw the draw I thought AMG/VRP would exit early on but now I really think they have a good chance to make the final. If Stosur is as erroneous as she was in the first set yesterday and Medina is as solid from the baseline and Ruano is volleying well, they stand a real chance, although I'd make the Aussies the marginal favourite because of the surface and Stosur's serve.

I'm probably in the minority but I'm looking forward to the doubles semi-finals more than the men's singles semi-finals!
