in Doubles. According to another board, Serena will be playing doubles in a few weeks at the Liepseig (SP) tournament in Germany with Alexandra Stevenson.. Do you all think there is more to this?

serena and venus and alex are best friends. and venus is not palying there so there is no issue here unless people want to bring some drama to the table.

I see it as an increased comfort level with other players. Also, it could simply be a desire to play more doubles, which can be difficult when your doubles partner avoids entering the same tournaments as you.

YOU ARE FUNNY
THE WILLIAMS AND STEVENSON ARE VERY GOOD FRIENDS. THE CLOSEST FRIEND THEY HAVE ON TOUR

BESIDES SHE IS THE ONLY PERSON THEY PRACTISE WITH.
THE WILLIAMS FAMILY WONT LET TENNIS COME BETWEEN THEM

yes, not a big deal at all.

its like Arantxa playing doubles with Rossana or Svetlana. They're all friends, but theyre not doubles partners (on a weekly basis). It doesnt mean that suddenly Arantxa quit with Daniela!

OVER REACTING!

Serena Williams to head strong Leipzig field

BERLIN - (LAWN TENNIS)World number one Serena Williams will be the main attraction of the Leipzig women's tennis tournament starting on September 23, organisers have said.

Serena, who beat sister Venus in the U.S. Open final on Saturday, is lined up to play both singles and doubles on her first appearance in the eastern German city.

Her doubles partner will be fellow American Alexandra Stevenson, who reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 1999.

Three other top 10 players, Yugoslavia's Jelena Dokic and Belgians Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters, are in the singles draw for the $585,000 event.

I think it would be the first time one sister has played doubles with someone else. Can anyone confirm that?

Hmmm... no big deal... as dh said... it is tough to play doubles if your partner doesn't want to play the same tournies as you

Serena Williams is trying to help Alexandra get her first title. She is going to help her get some self confidence.:) Serena is looking out for her sista', and working on her volleying skillz in the process.:)

By the way, I believe the article just a feeling about this. I think barring injury they are going to play doubles together.:)

Even though it is no big deal - if like you say they are all friends
i do still think it is a significant move by serena.

I don't see any big deal since Venus isn't playing this tournament. I can't see Serena playing with Alex if Venus was also playing IMHO.

Me thinks Serena is helping Alex get some $$ so that she can pay when they go out since they're party buddies;)

SERENA is chasing perfection on all surfaces:eek:

They should just give the title to Serena because there is no one in the field that can even keep up with her at this time.

hmmm, I think it's interesting that she wants to play more doubles... maybe it's to work on her volleys?

Would Leipzig be Serena's first time playing doubles this year?

Did Venus and Serena play together at any of the Grand Slams this year?

I don't recall.

Thanks clocker. Tour-wise though this must be the first time Serena (and Venus) has partnered someone else.

What's the minimum for a doubles ranking? Is it 3 events?

do you blame her? Alex is doing the right thing IMO. i don't want to see the Venus-Serena partnership break up but most doubles players play around a bit and get other experiences. it's no big deal IMO. ;)

why doesn't Navaratilova ask Serena to play one of these indoor events together?! There's so much pride going on it makes me sick!

True, they should just cancel the WTA all together
