well usually when i watch my favorite player monica,i get real nervous and start screming, come on monica, and i blast her grunts through the volume.how about you fellow members what do you do?do you have any rituals?do you eat your nails?

I just enjoy her playing. I guess I get nervous, but after 14 years and all she's been through, I love her playing more and more everyday and am just glad she's still out there showing some of the young guns just how it's done. When she wins, I just have a feeling of "ok, all's right and good in the universe today" and if she loses, I admire the caliber of tennis it takes to beat her. I am just truly thankful for everytime she steps on the court.

(Of course, would it be a Slam final - I'd be pissing myself nervous!) :)

well said seles....would any body on this board lose sleep for there favorite player.

Sep 10th, 2002, 02:48 AM
Yes,I did it during the Aus Open this year... ;)

I get very nervous of course when I watch the match.

Sep 10th, 2002, 03:32 AM
I yell like you wouldn't believe when she wins really big points, usually a "YEAH YEAH YEAH" loud enough and intense enough to scare people a quarter mile away. Last time was when she took control of the Schwartz match.

Sep 10th, 2002, 03:34 AM
I miss sleep all the time for Monica - well, not just Monica. If she's playing at an odd hour - I will stay up/get up to watch the scores if it's on the net. I will do this for other remarkable matchups too (Lindsay v. Venus...Hingis v. Lindsay, etc... so it's not just a Monica thing) ;)

Sep 10th, 2002, 03:36 AM
i get realy anxious and figity ,and if something go's bad.....

Sep 11th, 2002, 06:47 PM
i was watching the lindsay and serena match on tv..well i was taping it cos my familly were watching something else...so when the adverts were on i kept flicking over to the tennis....and my mum was scared of me...i was screaming at the tv..."HIT THE DAMN BALL LINDSAY....DOWN THE LINE..DOWN THE LINE..NNOOOOOetc" i get so wound up when she doesnt do as i say..lol...i'd be banned from any wta events if they heard what i was saying. i've found out that when lindsay's oponent is serving if i say double fault..they ace her..and if i say ace..they double fault...and it worked a few times....

Sep 11th, 2002, 06:55 PM
....would any body on this board lose sleep for there favorite player.

yeah but then of course she retired so not anymore;)

Sep 11th, 2002, 09:36 PM
Oh yeah i scream to the tv and bite my nails for sure when she plays difficult important matches.
And yes i've lost sleep following many memorable GS finals Monica has played!

Sep 11th, 2002, 10:49 PM
I was always taught that anybody can win on any given day, so I get nervous every time one of my faves is playing. I think they will win, but I don't take anything for granted so I really get into the match. It also depends on which of my faves is playing, if it is Hingis then I really get into the match, same for Kournikova. While Dokic and Tulyaganova are 2 of my new faves I don't get as excited for their matches right now as for when Hingis or Kournikova are playing. That will change over time though.

Sep 11th, 2002, 11:37 PM
I get really nervous when either Hingis or Kournikova play. Even if its just a 1st round i think it could be an upset and wont calm down, although with anna this is very frustrating cos she has been losing in the 1st round. I normally just sit there quiet and throw advice like"go to the net, hit your seves harder etc" if the player is winning really easy. I never really calm down when Anna is playing even if she is a set and 5-0 up cos she has lost some shockers after having a good lead. When martina or Anna meet a top 10 then i am nervous from start to finish, shout at the TV, cuss the other player, move around and just fidget like mad until the match is over.

When a Favourite loses i just sit there moody and somber and it takes about half an hour for me to snap out of it, and then go on and on to anyone that will listen how they shouldnt have lost the match and she didnt try hard enough:o :)

Sep 12th, 2002, 12:11 AM
what is the most outrageous thing you did when your player is playing.

Sep 12th, 2002, 01:39 AM
I usually get a nerve collapse while watching Lindsay...;) After the injury she's had when I see her play I really try to enjoy her being on the court. I feel amazing just by watching Lindsay play, and when she's not playing so well I send her good vibes and always work..
I shouldn't say what was the most outrageous thing I did when Lindsay was playing...

Sep 12th, 2002, 10:28 AM
come on joaco what was it.

Sep 12th, 2002, 10:36 AM
To be perfectly honest with you, I quite watching Monica live on TV anymore, I just tape it and go through the score on the net, coz I get so nervous when she play. I always thought I would jinx her if I watch her on TV. sometimes it get so outrageous that when I see thru the scorew board that Monica is losing, I will stop taping the match coz I thought me taping the match is jinxing Monica play LOL.

Sep 12th, 2002, 10:48 AM
well the people who know me know that the worst thing I did was jinxing poor anna till 2005 after she beat steffi in 98!

Sep 12th, 2002, 12:47 PM
I sometimes start getting spots (its allergy) when I'm nervous so that's what happens often when my favourites (esp Monica) play tough matches

Sep 12th, 2002, 01:34 PM
i sit in front of the TV jumping and clapping on Daniela`s matches :)
Sometimes i even fall down on knees praying, when we reach some really big point :)
...i`m very emotional on the court, too

OMG don't get me started i've even come to the point that i lighted some candles for Martina when she was down and it helped! It was the oz open qfmatch against Serena and Martina was i guess 4-1 down and she won 8-6 in the third set!;-)

Sep 12th, 2002, 08:05 PM
Very active, but relatively quiet in front of the TV. On spot, live I`m almost motionless, but more noisy. i realt don`t know for sure, but this is what I have heard.

All kind of emotions are through me, but I love those kind of feelings and tension. Its shows how much you want your favorite to win.

Sep 12th, 2002, 11:34 PM
tension can sometimes be a -itch.

Sep 13th, 2002, 01:44 AM
LOOLL @ wongqks
What a strange way of following the score!!

Ohh, one thing that I do when Lindsay is playing badly is put an old tape of her where she plays spectacularly and try to mix both matches while watching the one live.... I must've done it two or three times and it worked!!:bounce:

Sep 13th, 2002, 01:58 AM
lol joaco,if it works go for it.

Sep 13th, 2002, 02:05 AM
I get most nervous when watching Justine at the GrandSlams, and against the Williams sisters.

Sep 13th, 2002, 07:24 AM
well actually i don'thave too much coverage on tennis in my city and i am very nervous on watching live except that i know that my idols can beat their opponents easily ;) otherwise like last time i watched goran winning the wimbledon, i jumped and shouted, all my face turned red and finally i become so afraid that i took out the bible and said god please just let hiim win once, he was so poor

Martina Hingisova

I have to admit your emotion when watching Martina is the best so far hehe ;) maybe I should try it on Monica :)

Sep 13th, 2002, 09:03 AM
I try not to get too excited especially out in public as this may be tacky. I think the most excited I ever was was when Steffi played ASV at Wimbledon in 1996(?) and maybe it was a tirebreaker(?) but I actually held my breath(im not joking) during some of those points!! I COULD NOT BREATHE!!!

Sep 13th, 2002, 11:43 AM
does anyone like start praying....you might laugh on this one but when im watching seles sometimes and she is losing,i take the picture of when she was dominating and i put it against the tv screen on monica and it works...lol

Sep 13th, 2002, 12:02 PM
l was so dissapointed when Venus lost to monica at the auz open this year it was very hard for me to watch!!! Ever since each time Venus plays monica l get really nervous!!!! But l have a big shrine of my favourite players in my room l find that helps for big tournaments!!! Although l don't take losses very easily l was crushed when Andy Roddick lost to Greg at wimbledon it took me days to get over that!!!! When ever Venus and Serena play the big players it's always nerve wrecking for me cuz anything can happen!!!

Sep 13th, 2002, 12:05 PM
It's so nice to read everytime again that I am not the only crazy person in this world :p ;)

Sep 13th, 2002, 04:27 PM
I bite my nails..and basically have a heart attack every time Kim plays. I also tend to move closer to the tv during the bigger points..like that will somehow help me see better! lol

I watch alot of different sports so this happens all the time..I think i'm gonna die young from the stress lol

Sep 13th, 2002, 04:47 PM
oh yeah even when Monica is not playing and someone else I like is playing like Martina or Amelie or Kim etc I will close my eyes whenever they serve a second serve.

Sep 13th, 2002, 06:39 PM
I find myself moving closer to the TB when a big point is being played as well, Hawk. I don't know why I do it, but anytime one of my faves is involved in a big point, I always get as close to the TV as posssible.

Sep 14th, 2002, 04:16 AM
do you guys ever scream double fault and it happens,or do any of you cry.

Sep 14th, 2002, 04:24 AM
LOL..I do sometimes say double fault and it happens..sometimes you can just feel it coming.

Sep 14th, 2002, 04:27 AM

Sep 14th, 2002, 04:42 AM

-Sometimes i change clothes when Martina is down and i put my Hingisshirt on (like that will change anything  :o )

-I always put the tv sound on an particular level  :o

-I switch channels when a big point comes up and when i'm too nervous , than when i switch back to the tennis and Marti won the point i will continue to do it at big points

-i pray and keep saying come on marti

am i crazy or what? :o

Sep 14th, 2002, 07:43 PM
I scream and shout at the TV a lot.. Usually shouts of "ALLEZ AMELIE!" And yeah, there is usually a lot of swearing involved. But I'm MUCH worse when I'm watching a rugby match.. I shouted so loud today that my neighbours actually knocked on my front door to check if I was ok. :o
