I say YES YES YES without a doubt, these are preserved for "heads of states" or national heros of significant importance, and Michael Jackson had more of an impact on American culture, and it's export to the rest of the world than any president since Kennedy. He is an absolute BLACK, American, global ICON, the GREATEST ENTERTAINER to grace this earth hands down!!!

R.I.P Mike

His body deserves to lay in state at the U.S Congress IMO*** :hearts::hearts:\

1. I'm pretty sure Elvis did not get a state funeral

2. Elvis didn't molest children or threaten to drop a baby out of his hotel room.

One I had to stop you right there with that statement.
You had to go that far back in history to Kennedy when Obama is in office.
Really now?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I would rather go with the president who sleeps with his wife, changed American culture with his inauguration, and doesn't see Cuba as the worse thing that could happen 90 miles south of Florida.

To finally answer your question, hell no.
Whose paying for a state funeral? Not me.
The man's already in debt, how about not continuing us in debt as well.
I think I did enough buying 3 songs of his on Itunes.

If all the celebrities who supposedly love and adore Michael but happened to not be there in the last 5 years of his life would pay for an official state funeral, then sure let's do it.
If not, well being in the Apollo for many to see ain't that bad either.

State funerals in the US are reserved for former Presidents and other high ranking current or former goverment officals, not celebrities, so the answer is no.

BTW, Elvis did not get a state funeral when he died in 1977.

Well, I did. The one word that pops out all the time is ''private.'' OK, two words, the other being "Graceland.''

I am a bit confused by your answer. How could anyone claim he had a state funeral without also claiming that it was carried out in secret, since no-one ever saw it? Which would sort of defeat the purpose.

I think you're confusing Elvis with Jerry Lee Lewis, who I kinda like better than Elvis anyway.

Then again, I miss James Brown, Bob Marley, Joe Strummer and Frank Zappa more than Michael Jackson.

On the bright side, George Clinton is with us still.

I don't think he will actually need a state funeral. It will no doubt be a massive event regardless.

In such situations I think that his family and fans should stop and ask what is best for his children. Being paraded at a media frenzy funeral will not be good for them. There has been enough damage already from all poor Michael's hangers ons. Let's hope this doesn't get passed onto his children. Though I fear that the money grabbing vultures who have no scruples wont care. Look what happened to Anna Nicole Smith's child and Christina Onassis' daughter. Men out to get their money.

I am not confusing at all , my best friend is an Elvis fan fully involved in Elvis life ..i know what i talk about , Priscilla was 13 when Elvis dated her ITS A FACT ..

But for a reason i dont get yet nobody find nothing bad or scandalous in it .. because he was white ? , because priscilla was a girl and not a boy ( homophobia..? ) ..? i dont know i wonder .. .

More again while for Elvis it was a well world wide known FACT that he dated a 13 year-old girl ...for michael nothing has never been proven ..just speculation .how corrupted people can be ..

And oh..a bunch of people miss michael more , its a matter of taste ..and life .

The American Congress honored his name yesterday , they made a minute of silent ..and i am fully satisfy with it .

I thought Priscilla was 14 when they dated, not that it matters much but I really think Jerry was the one dating a 13-year-old girl that's why someone said you confused them with each other.

And you are being a bit paranoid, I am afriad.

Listen, I respect MJ really much and by no means there is anyone who can deny his talent, but as for his personal life, he's a celebrity and let's say nowadays people just become, meaner.

And as for the bolded part, you're probably being sacrastic(sp?), and if you are I have no idea why you choose to be so, cause I already say 'not that it matters much', I am just saying why miffedmax thinks you confused Elvis with Jerry.

Jerry Lee not only dated, but married a 13-year-old. She was also his cousin. So pancake is right, when I think of big scandals involving rockstars and 13-year-olds, I automatically think of Jerry Lee Lewis, not Elvis.

I'd forgotten Priscilla was that young, too. I knew she was young, but I was thinking it was more like 16. Like I said, I'm not such a big Elvis fan.

Argh. See, I voted no but not because of these reasons. I voted no because I don't believe any entertainer should get a state funeral.

Michael was acquitted from the child molestation charge. I'm not his biggest fan but I really, really, from the bottom of my heart believe he was innocent. I think he was basically a very kind hearted person who just didn't know how to express his kindness because he's so eccentric(and often misunderstood), and the people who sued him just wanted to take advantage of him. It makes me upset when people continue to accuse him even after he was found innocent.

As for dangling the child, it's something he did without thinking. I don't believe for a minute that he meant to harm that baby.

The man did not have a mean bone in his body. The only crime he ever committed was being eccentric, and really, why was that even a crime?
