Jana Novotna at Wimbledon she sure deserved to win that after all her efforts, what a celebration though. Couldn't even stop crying at the presentation bless her.

Gabriela Sabatini's victory at US Open 1990...seems like an eternity ago...but the genuine excitement and accomplishment, as well as her emotional hug with her brother...

I liked Gaby's as well.
And there was one at the US Open several years ago. After Gigi and Natasha won the doubles title, they took off their shirts in celebration. They had the word "Adidas" spelled out across their sports bras. Natasha was "ADI" and Gigi was "DAS". At first, Gigi stood on the wrong side, and they spelled "DASADI". (This was before wearing just a sports bra for practice was common.)

When CBS was showing old matches the other week, I watched the last set of Venus and Irina Spirilea (sp?) and Venus' reaction after she won - jumping up and down, gasping for air, squealing with joy - that was the best for me.
Sep 13th, 2002, 05:05 AM
Wow, I missed that one Brian
Also true I loved Gaby's one after the US open 90.

Just out of curiousity Sam L, have you got a Hingis-phobia ;)
Or is that just a coincidence? ;)
Sep 13th, 2002, 05:09 AM
Monica 2002 Australian SF - fist clench & dead serious look on her face.
Sep 13th, 2002, 05:10 AM
What do you mean Hingis-phobia?
Sep 13th, 2002, 05:11 AM
I meant, do you dislike her or is it just a coincidence half of your matches have her on the losing end?
I'm not picking, just curious.

Oh yeah it seems like it eh... no of course not, I like Martina.
It's just Venus and Serena have very expressive and upbeat victory celebrations (which I love) and beating Martina Hingis brings out (or used to bring out) the best in them :) Example, Venus at US Open 2000.
Sep 13th, 2002, 05:15 AM
I have to agree about Venus over Spirlea...that is priceless.
Also Venus, when she beat Martina at Wimbledon 2000...she won the title with that match, even though it was the QF.
Venus is so introverted...perhaps that's why her celebrations are the best. Maybe it's the only time she allows herself to cut loose.

Venus over Irina Spirlea in Us Open 1997 is the best, you can see her genuine excitement about reaching teh final and as a kid, she cannot even comprehend
Jana emotional victory is great as well, but as a fan before, I was slightly dissappointed that she didn't cry on teh duchess soulder again then ;)

My top 3:
1. Steffi Graf back from the brink. Steffi's dad was in the tabloids with a 17 year old bimbo!! Removes the chain Gaby Sabatini had around her neck. Gaby had beaten Steffi 5 times in a row then Steffi beat Gaby in 1991(?) Wimbledon final. Steffi smacks a "take that!" FH winner return and then arches her back and throws her head back and screams!! "YEESSSSSS!!!"
(i cant find my steffi pic :()
2. Venus defeat Mary Pierce @ NY! Dance a jig Venus!!!:
3. Venus defeats Hingis @ Miami then vamps for camera!!:
4. The Goddess Venus blows kisses to other goddess and gods after
crushing Hingis at the US Open SF 2000:
Sep 13th, 2002, 09:30 AM
I almost forgot!
4. Irina bumps into Venus, but cant send her out of orbit at the 97 US Open SF!
"I'm superstoked!! I get to play on day 14!!"--Venus Williams
"She thinks she's the f@(%ing Venus Williams "--Irina Spirela

OMG anton how could I forget the famous Venus jigs  :) My favourite was after she beat Anna K in the Lipton finals 98.
Also thanks for the photos :) I've never seen the second one actually.
"The Goddess Venus blows kisses to other goddess and gods after crushing Hingis at the US Open SF 2000". Are you calling the New Yorkers gods?

Thanks for the nice pics Anton:wavey:

ok! I also liked it when Serena beat Amelie in Paris Indoor in 1999(?) and Steffi in Indian Wells. Serena was so excitied she just started jumping up and down to the net. In Indian Wells Steffi showed her class by kissing Serena on both cheeks even in defeat. I would like for current players to try to show some class like that.

i remember very well the triumph of Gaby in 1990
she jump and jump and cant believed
it is a gorgeous remember
and the triumph of Novotna in Wimnbledon is so pretty as the triumph of Steffi in RG 1999
Sep 13th, 2002, 12:40 PM
Venus' victory dances are always funny:D Did you notice how high she can jump? :p

Nathalie Tauziat after she beat Zvereva in the Wimbledon semis. That scream was very memorable!
Also all of Venus' good victories thats already been mentioned, and Serena when she won US Open 99!
Sep 14th, 2002, 05:42 PM
My favorite ever without a doubt is Venus @ Wimbledon 2000. First, leaping towards the net after ace-ing Hingis on matchpoint. Then in the finals, jumping for joy up and down after winning. That was my favorite tennis moment EVER!
Sep 14th, 2002, 06:36 PM
Some posters in this thread need to note that the question was: "Best and most memorable victory celebrations"
NOT: " What victories of your favorite players did you enjoy most?"
Just a note on reading comprehension!
While many of the examples above are probably better than mine,
I loved Serena's reaction after winning in three set against Jennifer Capriatti in the Toronto final in 2001. I think this was her breakthrough that built her confidence to play the way she has in 2002. She had lost three straight to Jen, but since then, never looked back!
