Also Bartoli a former finalist is on an outer court. Ana barely deserves Court 4.

Court 4 apparently is a show court but not a televised one as far as I can gather. Today it was Centre, 1, 2, 3 and 18 only. Zvonareva was on court 4 but moved to court 18 so it was on tv. Bartoli was supposed to be on court 18 but moved to court 19 instead.

дalex
Jun 22nd, 2009, 10:11 PM
Surely they'll move her to another court? I don't think it's a good decision from the organisers to put Ana on a non-televised court. She might be slumping but she still has a lot of fans who want to see her in action.

I'm not complaining really, who gives a damn :o

From a popularity perspective she probably does deserve a show court, but from a tennis one, court 4 is about right. They made the decision

Atm it's probably best we can't see her play anyway

This way she'll have less pressure and it will show her how much she's lost in the past year. When she stops playing terrible tennis then she will earn it back.

I don't care as long as I can watch. It's really a meaningless issue. She deserves to be where she is. I'm hoping it's stuff like this that will shock Ana into getting back to her best level. She isn't in the top 10 anymore so she's got to go work her way back, stuff like this is all part of the process.

That all said, even now Ana is still probably a more popular/known name here than others who got put on show courts.

Dav.

Going by Wimbledon tradition, apart from Kournikova, they made the right decision. The other players are former champions or current top-ten.

That being said, she would attract a bigger crowd. But this isn't really a problem at Wimbledon...

This is wrong decision, but not big deal. According to "Star-Power" Ana Ivanovic is 3rd year in the row WTA TOP5 and Tennis overall TOP10... but even if we forget about "Star-Power" Ana (13th seed)was actually better ranked player than 32 of 42 ATP/WTA players (21 singles matches) which will play tomorrow at "more respectable" courts (Centre Court, #1, #2, #3, #18) :(

Honestly speaking I'm still on impressions of idiotic Roland Garros schedule of WTA matches so Wimbledon Organizers has really hard job if want to "overtake" that :p

BTW If this is bad decision - it's bad news for fans and media way more than for Ana... so address your words of solidarity (or whatever) to fans which don't watch Ana (live or TV) because this court choice

If she gets through the early rounds she'll get a better court - they have 128 singles matches featuring 64 seeds to get through in two days - not all the watchable players can be on big courts.

South was only on C1 because she was a TBA - which is a tricky situation, not knowing what court you'll be on, or whether you'll actually get your match through on time. Better to have an assured place on a lesser court.

I don't see why Ana isn't scheduled for Court 18 in place of Kanepi and CSN. Clearly, Ana would attract a bigger crowd. I agree that Ana had to be the one that missed out on a 'show court' but it's great value for fans who are on a ground pass. If I went to Wimbledon today, I certainly wouldn't be complaining. That court will be packed.

There are too many top headliners on the top half. Wimbledon only puts one women's match on Centre and Court 1 (but two men's singles ). Players will have to get bumped down. It will get even worse than this on the Round of 16 day when 16 important matches are spread out with, again, only one women's match on Centre and Court 1.

To be honest, I really don't think the players care about this garbage. They just go out there and know they have to win. Only Jelena has ever brought it up in a negative fashion.

It's not outrageous. She may be a past slam champion, but if you don't have the recent results to back up a ranking, you can't expect star treatment. When she begins to be a contender for the big matches again, she will get her Centre Court slot again.

And Oracene Williams backed her up saying Jelena worked hard for #2 seeding (meaning she shouldn't have been scheduled on Court 18). She, and I think Serena also mentioned it in her interview, didn't like that Serena and Venus played their R4 matches on Court 2 either.

Can't be bothered to look up for the links, but that's what was said. Anyway, it's the past...so whatever. I just hate it when journalists bring what Jelena said as if she blamed the court scheduling for her loss. That wasn't the case. I completely agree. With the scheduling of two men's matches on the main courts with only one women's, the top women will be knocked off.

Play should begin at 11am and Noon, not 12pm and 1pm. Then true equality would exist with two women's and two men's on the main courts.

I completely agree. With the scheduling of two men's matches on the main courts with only one women's, the top women will be knocked off.

Play should begin at 11am and Noon, not 12pm and 1pm. Then true equality would exist with two women's and two men's on the main courts.

Yes, but I don't think anything will change. Jelena received so much bad press last year when she complained about the scheduling, it was ridiculous. Even Serena and Venus were mentioned as complainers (mainly because of what Federer said). I'm pretty sure Jelena won't be complaining again, even though I'd like her to , but what's the point now that she's irrelevant?

Court 4 apparently is a show court but not a televised one as far as I can gather. Today it was Centre, 1, 2, 3 and 18 only. Zvonareva was on court 4 but moved to court 18 so it was on tv. Bartoli was supposed to be on court 18 but moved to court 19 instead.
I would be very surprised if its not a televised court today, theres two brits on,evans in the mens and Keothavong in the womans.so once they start coverage I would think they will stick with it for ana's match.

AGREE. Starting play at 1pm on Center Court is a typical stupid move from such a stodgy group of organizers. :weirdo:

Jun 24th, 2009, 07:40 PM
they dont choose what players to put on center court based on what they did in the past but also on how they are playing right now.

i mean they have cilic playing querry at center court today...only because they think it will be a good match up.

ana might get it soon if she amps up her game

they dont choose what players to put on center court based on what they did in the past but also on how they are playing right now.Yeah... sure...

They give advantage for Centre Court to 9th seed Wozniacki ahead 5 time Wimbledon Champion 3rd Seed Venus Williams, and Womens 1st seed Safina must to play at 3rd Court (named Court 2) before ATP match where both players are unseeded, and over last month RG champion #5 Kuznetsova or 2006 Wimbledon Champion and former #1 Mauresmo (both must play on Court 3) and former #1 and Crowd Favorite (especially since Maria lose) Ana Ivanovic should play on Court 18...

If we compare ATP and WTA schedule - they are sexists and if we look at WTA schedule only - they are just stupid. Period.

No offence, I wouldn't put Mauresmo on CC with the way she's playing. The court she's on is fine. Same as Kuznetsova - This time, it was Jelena who plays on Court 2 she Kuzzy takes Court 3.

And I'm saying this as a fan of Ana - She doesn't deserve any big courts with the way she's playing. Court 18 is good for her as it's a large court with plenty of seats for her fans. If she's a crowd favourite at Wimbledon, the court should fill up which is what Wimbledon would want.

I think Court 18 > Court 3. Personally I think you want Ana to be on court 18 rather than either 3 or 4 since there are more seats, it's televised, and it's great for people with just ground passes.

I think the WTA must formally complain to the organizers, they don´t care about the women AT ALL! Ivanovic on court 18?? give me a fucking break, this girl is an international star and deserves some respect, even if she´s playing like shit! Serbs own court 18, I hope Jelena will borrow Ana her helicopter she bought this year to get to that court...

Wozniacki vs Kirilenko on Centre??? They´re drunk or on drugs... Caro will have plenty of years to play on that court in the future, I think Ana, Venus, Amelie and even Sveta deserves to play on that court right now than Caro, and I´m her fan!

The fact that she's been playing like shit is exactly why she doesn't deserve respect. From a tennis perspective.
