Wozniak was doing nothing, so passive it was painful. She deserved to lose.

Wozniak  Again - I see nothing interesting and top 20 worthy in her.

Aleks needs to work on her volleys. :o

Sometimes she does play passive. She has to find a happy medium between going for her shots much and just putting the ball back in play. Baby steps.... baby steps.

Aleks :(

Only saw the first two sets; utter capitulation to let Schiavone take the second. :fiery: It's all the more annoying because Aleks could have done well here.

Schiavone is a fiesty and experienced player, she'll fight for every point and makes you play, this was a tough first round with both players coming off semifinal showings in their last grass court event.

Still, I can't help feeling disappointed that Aleks didn't yank this one out. She has the weapons to dictate the points but instead allowed Francesca to be the aggressor and that is not going to win her matches. I feel as though she fell into the same trap with Wozniacki mid-second set onward...Hopefully she can learn from the experience :)

Congrats to Francesca, she stepped it up and went for it, deserving victory.

Schiavone hit a linesman along the way.

Wozniak had so much hype in Quebec, the press was expecting her to do so well. She'll learn that being that passive isn't a good thing.

She needs to work on her 2nd serve, that last one was a joke.

From what I saw, Fran played really well. She took advantage of Alek's poor movement and passive play.

Ugh Aleks. Local news stations need to back off because I think they are affecting her game. Now that she's more or less a mainstay in the top 30, potential top 20 they are all over her and simply creating more of a fuss and added pressure for nothing.

This was also a tough draw as Trannie likes to attack the net and can be solid and trcky on grass. Hopefully Aleks puts this loss behind her quickly and has a nice summer hardcourt season!

I noticed... I had a bad feeling before this match for that reason. When will the francophone media learn? They do the same with the Habs. :tape::o

Aleks was just playing horrible since 4-1. Too passive, waiting for Franny errors and doing nothing. Hope she regains her Stanford/PVB/Eastbourne form, she's too much inconsistant.

Well, Aleks give them all the quotes they need.
She and her coach always says she belongs in the top 10 and she can handles the elite and she's so agressive and focused, blablabla.

And we never had a top 25 player so it's new to everybody.

So much for having big groundies Aleks. :tape: Cibulkova can play that way, but you're not quick enough to retrieve everything. Good grass season overall IMO, with a SF at Eastbourne. Disappointing to finish it off this way, but play some challengers or something to get ready for HC season.

Well for starters Schiavone lost in the 1st or 2nd round at Wimbledon for the past 5 years in a row. That doesn't exactly say good on grass to me. :p

I don't want to get too much in Aleks' discussions cause it always ends in drama, but Wiggly has a point. Ever since she is 14 Aleks herself has strongly believed in her ability to be in the top 10. While this might be the reason she is so high right now, and good for her, there is a lot of pressure that follows such comments. While the attention she has right now here is ridiculous, it is something she should be ready for and always looked forward to. It can't be used as an excuse, and there is always room for her to say no for interviews if it gets her out of the tournament rhythm.

Commentator on this match was also annoying :( Kept called Alex 'Wozniacki' and even 'Caroline' at one point

I saw this on the scoreboard near the entrance and another saying Fran had won on another score board. I took a photo of both, still unaware of who had actualy won!

It's awful to see Aleks lose... I think she was hyped quite a bit after her run at Eastbourne. But she is new to the top tier of the game. She needs to work on her consistency and belief. I think she can be a consist top 20 player in the next year or so! Good luck in future tourneys Aleks! Rub this one off and kick butt over the summer!

Good to know that even when she loses her 580 points for Stanford, she'll still be top 30! She can only go up! Can't wait to see if she does something in Canada!

Fran's a tough player and had been playing well on grass lately so I guess it's not that bad, but Aleks had been doing so well. :(
