Terrible form Daniela :help: You looked like the 15 year junior for those first 2 sets. And what the hell has happened to Dani's first serve?!!!! She used to actually hit it with some pace....

Far too many unforced errors and DFs at vital moments from Laura. She seemed to get quite agitated after dropping serve in the third.

Still a reasonably promising debut.

Nice showing. Tough opening match for Laura. Nice to see her show her promise. Laura should have tested Dani, and she did. Dani should have won, and she did.

Despite the brain-freeze at the end of the second set and the consequent loss, it is quite clear that we really do have a new WTA prodigy and star in the making. Laura has a very solid ground game, with some great flourishes and flair, and a fantastic lefty serve. I think she's very impressive, especially from a British perspective! Admittedly, Hantuchova is nowhere near the form she was in 2 or 3 years ago but, still, for a recently-turned 15 year old British girl to really contend with a former world #5 in the first round of her very first ever Ladies' Wimbledon main draw match... it's pretty remarkable! For whatever reason, I found Hantuchova a real turn-off in this match. It's a shame Laura couldn't win (she was a set and a break up), but she's barely out of nappies so her time will come. She's got a great career ahead of her. Laura - you've won many fans, I'm sure! :):bounce:

Laura choked it away...simple as that. Two d-faults to give Daniela the set and one to give the match away.

That was HILARIOUS. :hysteric: Dani. Laura gave herself justice  But Dani was horrible. :hysteric:

I kept on flicking between Maria-Kutuzova and this match and the gulf in quality and intensity was MASSIVE.

Daniela was really hopeless for the first set and a half at returning Robson's lefty serve. She barely held for 5-4 second set, but Robson really gifted her the set with two DFs.

The last set Daniela was playing a lot better... if she got in a first serve, there were some beautiful winners. She also seemed to have figured out Robson's serve by that point.

Ironic that Robson gifted the second set, the third set break, and the match with DFs, but solid effort from her. She will be big in the next couple of years.

woohoo dani! nice comeback in the 2nd set. coz seriously, omfg if a 26yr old (who's been on the tour for 10 yrs) loss to an inexperienced (in terms of playing in the seniors/womens' comp opposed to the juniors') 15yr old :tape: if that situation occured, omfg.

some great shots and play making from (aussie) londoner robson tho. cant wait for anouther couple more years for her to develop and mature her game more, she's gonna be someone to watch definitely ;)

laura has a huge talent,I was hoping her to win that match but she still needs some work to put on in her game, such as havin a more consistent serve and find a way to mix it up a bit. That's a specific surface there.Net skills are huge advantage nowadays with that stéreotypical tennis the tour is plenty of..She's still so young. Good effort though.:yeah:

I dont understand what happened to Daniela's serve. Its soooo attackable these days, its like she isnt even trying to hit it hard at all. Pretty poor performance, I think the occasion got to both players though, just a very awkward match from both.

It wasnt all that bad, Daniela had more winners than errors however.

Very good performance from Laura early on, shame she didn't win but overall she should be very pleased with that as a Grand Slam debut.

Props to Dani for fighting through. Must have been very difficult to play seeing her long-time coach in her opponent's box considering Nigel Sears knows everything about her.

Very similar stuff to Kristina's match against Schnyder in the AO. Two big prospects looking good to create the upset but eventually losing because of wrong shots at the wrong times. This is why they're still a bit junior. Laura missed a couple of returns when she should have broken and served these DFs to go down a break. Same things happened to Kiki, two DFs to lose the 2nd set! Such a shame because they were both the one who dictated the games with great shots.

I really like watching those two girls. They are both so talented, having such a good serve. Kiki has firepower & Laura amazing angles and a very fluent tennis.

Daniela played like shit. Her serve is off and her mental toughness is as high as Petrova.

Very good performance by Laura! Played the big points well in the first half of the match, then the dfs and errors crept in a bit more (and Dani picked her game up). Seeing as i thought she would get crushed, very impressed with her performance, great signs for the future. Again dealt with the pressure incredibly.

Typical of Brits to celebrate losing. Hantuchova was there for the taking. It doesn't matter if you're 15 or 35... when you're a set and a break up against someone who isn't playing well then you should finish the job off. It isn't like Hantuchova started playing superbly either.

:rolleyes:There's a difference between celebrating and commenting that she did better than expected. Plus, many seasoned champions lose matches when up a set and a break. All credit to her or anyone who at 15 can go out and play under the spotlight at a major like Wimbledon.

When I walked into the grounds of Wimbledon today (after queuing for 3 hours ) this was the first result I saw on the huge drawsheet by the enrance. Initially I was disappointed, seeing as though she took the first set and seemed to lose a close second. Then I just had to remind myself of the situation and what I actually expected from this match. I said in another thread that I would be thrilled with 5 games, lets alone a set. Yes Laura may not have played the bg points well (I’ve yet to watch the match in full), but I’m sure that will come in time. I really believe Laura is the real deal, junior results are almost irrelevant to her as she’s proven that she plays well in big occasions such as this. Well done Laura, tremendous effort. :yeah:
