Please to forgive, but I already know your answer to the question.

Ten years ago, there was much questioning of the Williams approach the sport.
Eight years ago, there was much questioning of the Williams dedication to the sport.
Five years ago, there was much questioning of the Williams relevance the sport.

But if you look back to the late nineties, the only ones of their comperes who is still around and playing at an elite level is the reigning Olympic champion, Elena Dementieva. Which begs a question.

Dementieva came out of possibly the foremost tennis factory in the world. A couple world #1's several slam winners. Spartak vs Compton? Too easy. Spartak is a dump, by all accounts. No enough courts, no heat, and a dedication to repitition that would break the average American teenager.

But if you wanted your kid to go to a tennis school (you'd be daft, but putting that aside) condier: Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Marat Safin, Elena Dementieva, Dinara Safina and Anastasia Myskina; all went to the same tennis academy as kids. Couple world #1's couple slam winners and an Olympic champ. Nice resume.

So what's Spartak got that you ain't got? 80-year-old Larisa Preobrazhenskaya, the coach of 'the little group' at Spartak. Rausa Islanova, for whom I've never heard a word of affection, and about a million of praise.

But suppose you want to do it yourself. Worked for Jim Evert. Stefano Capriati. Richard Williams twice.

So what did Richard Williams and Orecene have that other parent coaches did not? Besides genes that combined in felicitous ways?

Nothing. It was what they lacked. Ego. You go back over the history, and Team Williams looks like an NFL operation. Sure there's a head coach. But there are offensive coordinators, defensive coordinators, special teams coaches. Compare Jim Pierce or Damir Dokic to Richard Williams. How many other people can legitemately clain to have been part of Mary Pierce's and Jelena Dokic's training. Now check out V&S. Rick Macci, BJK, even Nicky B.

So if you want your kid to be the text Seles, do you do it yourself? ANd be prepared to hire some seriously expensive outside help. Help you have to have the brains and ego to control, but still allow to operate. Or move to Moscow, and let your kid learn in sub-zero weather with one outdoor court?

Both ways DO work.

Seles turned out to have the perfect tennis parents and it worked better than anyone else before or since - until outside forces intervened and shattered the perfect world, ofcourse.

What is this point of this thread??? You started by mentioning a question...WHAT QUESTION??? No-one ever claimed that both ways don't work which, as your conclusion, would appear to be the main point of the post. And what's with the Spartak VS Compton thing??? If you happen to grow up in Compton, then you learn to play tennis in Compton and vice versa for Moscow. And as for suggesting that Spartak is the worse place to be...WTF? Spartak is a tennis training facility...Compton is a ghetto! And do you have A.D.D. coz you started with the williams sisters, then worked your way through russian players before ending up with monica seles!!!! The only common theme through the post is "parents as coaches".

Golovinjured.
