Kristinia DeBarge-is she the next big star?

Today while I was listening to the radio I heard a catchy song called "Goodbye" by newcomer Kristinia DeBarge. Does that last name sound familiar to any of you? ;) Anyone who is well-versed in 80's music must know of the r&b/pop family group DeBarge, which was composed of 4 brothers and 1 sister. Their biggest hits were "All This Love", "You Wear It Well", "In a Special Way", "Rhythm of the Night", and "Who's Holding Donna Now?". Kristinia's father, James, was also famous for being briefly married to Janet Jackson, who divorced him because his drug habit was out of control. For the record, Kristinia is not Janet's secret child :lol:


Just a few more facts on her:
-reached the semifinals of the American Idol spinoff, American Juniors, in 2003
-has been working with Babyface for 5 years (she's 19 now), and he has produced a lot of the tracks on her upcoming album
-another of her uncles, Chico DeBarge, had a semi-successful solo career.



Anyway, here's her song, "Goodbye", which samples a bit from the 1969 song by Steam entitled "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye". DeBarge's song has only been on the charts for 6 weeks, and it's already top 20 in both the Hot 100 and Pop 100 categories. She can sing, dance, and she's really pretty, so I think she has a shot at having a big career :shrug:

The name alone will help her sell records,...
She's sexy, has instant name recognition and most importantly can sing.. she'll be successful...

Her song is quite catchy. Hopefully she can back it up. The second single is always the hardest.

Heard of her but never saw Kristinia perform until last Thurs (on SYTYCD). Although she was lip-synching, she really brought it. She has stage presence, looks hot and Goodbye reminds me of something Rihanna would record. The star potential is there; we just have to see if the kids respond to it in full.
