With her book that just came out, with her new body -slim and fit, I sometimes think, what a waste it has all been tenniswise, why has she been tested so much ? I believe in God and I believe in the saying "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger", that we will survive and become stronger if we endure, and that certainly apply to Monica who seems to be happy. I've seen her lately with that dance show, how assertive and happy she sounds in her interviews. I guess that is what her soul has been searching all through those years and at last seems to have found.
But this is a tennis forum. She had won 8 GS titles at 19 (that is just within 3 1/2 years). Then she got stabbed, then she got fat, and remained so until she retired. Isn't it ironic that as soon as she retired she started being all fit again, some 15 years later after the stabbing ? What is the point of that ? She probably would have won 30 GS titles in her career, being the GOAT.
But she's probably bigger than tennis, and she must be a very old soul. God wanted to reach her potential through other means. At least that's my interpretaion her her chaotic journey.

And with zealots like Gunter Parche , Calimero377 and LDVTennis they don't call Steffi fans "Grafanatics" for nothing.

Steffi was always pretty silent about her privat life then she retires and a month later she is kissing a man in public, appearing at his gala etc. So maybe God didn't want Steffi to play tennis but being the wife of Andre and baring his kids?

when I write this though it sounds kind of nice because Steffi and Andre (and hopefully Jaden and Jaz too) seem to be very happy.

But in Monica's case. If there was a God who is fair and kind why would he let a young woman suffer (take away the person that she was probably most close too) in other for her to reach bigger things. I have problems with that idea. I guess I will never understand why people have to suffer anyway but the idea that somebody would "arrange" it sounds even more cruel imho

and I am not a total atheist more like an agnost who will keep wondering about things like this (I come from a severe calvinistic environment)

Last time I gained ten pounds I don't recall any seraphs gliding down from the heavens with some extra padding god sent to adhere to me.

It's easier to maintain your weight when you aren't training, (it takes a loooot of calories to be a professional athlete and keep your muscle) travelling around the world, or under intense pressure.

She's faced a lot of challenges but surely some were avoidable or surmountable.

This topic is not about Americans being fat.

Seles may sound happy now, but my guess is that had she never been stabbed and she had gone on to win 10 more slams she would probably be even happier :)

And I don't think she was stabbed because it was part of "God's plan" or whatever. I think she was stabbed because some jackass ran onto the court and stabbed her.

Atheism does not, in any way, preclude what people tend to refer to as "spiritual." There is even an argument that athiests could be more tuned in to so-called spiritual experiences.

She used to sound happy before the stabbing on a superficial leval, but she IS genuinely happy now. Winning 20 more slams or earning 20 million dollars more doesn't make you happier in any way.

How do you know she's genuinely happy now? It could be that she was really happy back then and now she's just faking it. And I'm pretty sure that winning 20 more slams or earning 20 million more dollars probably WOULD make the average person a lot happier :)

I hope you find what youre looking for but God does not cause suffering, humans cause suffering. We already planned everything in our lives pre-birth before we were born. We are just playing it out.
