View Full Version : Commentators Jinx?

Is it just me who notices this? As soon as a commentator talks about how well someone is playing, for example Dementieva, and then they start talking about how good her serve is and that she's hitting very few double faults, she'll then reel off some DF's. Also, if they talk about things like there being no breaks/break points etc. there will then be a break.

Anyone else ever notice this?

Yes. I remember Miami 2008 final vividly. At 6-1 *3-0 up for Serena, they talked about how they didn't think JJ would be able to come back. She promptly came back to take the second set 7-5.

 Yeah this happens all the time. I feel so embarrased for the commentator.

Yah, you can see it with other sports too. Like with basketball they mention that someone has made a bunch of free throws in a row and then the player often will miss a free throw. Weird. :p

Yes, it seems to be a law of nature . Belgian commentators joke about it and will then say something like: I shouldn't have said that of course.

I also remember watching Sharapova and she was serving. Then someone said completely randomly in the middle of an unrelated sentence "Here comes the double...". Lo and behold, Sharapova hit a double fault.

YES YES YES...Omg lol. I always knock on wood when commentators speak. Like today Razzano was up 40-0 and the commentator was like well theres no way Wozniacki will come back now, looks she will have to serve to stay in the set, and of course Wozniacki broke back.

So many other stories I could tell. lol

Once they said 'so-and-so hasn't served down the T on the ad court side in this whole match' and lo and behold the player serves one right there, an ace to save break point. :p

Yeah it ALWAYS happens, no exceptions.

The most recent one I remember was at the Wimby roof thing. Andrew Castle (:o) was saying how amazing it was that Graf never mis-timed her high balltoss and sure enough she caught her toss the very next serve.
