MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma (AP) — A 23-year-old woman who got a friend to kill her Jack Russell terrier was charged with skinning the puppy to make a belt out of its hide.

Krystal Lynn Lewis and Austin Michael Mullins, 26, were being held Friday in the Muskogee County jail on $25,000 bail each. They were charged with one felony count of cruelty to animals.

A Muskogee County judge ordered a mental competency hearing for Lewis.

Lewis wanted the puppy, named Poplin, killed because it was a gift from a female ex-lover with whom she doesn't get along, said Muskogee County sheriff's deputy George Roberson.

Roberson said Mullins shot the terrier 10 times with a .22-caliber pistol. Lewis skinned the animal at her apartment and nailed the hide to a board.

It certainly seems pretty barbaric, and she must have a few screws loose, but I doubt many people would be upset if she killed a cow to make a belt.

Well, to kill a cow, she would've shoot like 100 times.
She's a freaking bitch.

It certainly seems pretty barbaric, and she must have a few screws loose, but I doubt many people would be upset if she killed a cow to make a belt.My sentiments. Mention dogs and people get their knickers in a twist. Man and dogs may go back a long way and dogs are naturally domesticated. That gives dogs a privileged position in society, but technically, slaughtering all animals for their meat/hide is "cruelty to animals", even if abattoirs have evolved more humane techniques of killing than nailing a cow between the eyes 10 times with bullets. (Even then, I've heard that in some places, enzymes are injected into the animal's bloodstream to soften their meat more effectively prior to slaughter.) And what of game hunting?

I guess the issue here also has something to do with the fact that she's killing a pet which she's presumably developed tender feelings for, and not just a random animal. But I'm not sure if a definition of "cruelty to animals" should be different in either event.

I always wonder why skinning a crocodile, for example, or eating a pig is considered normal by the majority of people but when people hear about same things done to dogs or cats they go all "omg this is gross and disgusting". Nah, it's just the same. It is an awful deed, but as awful as killing any other animal for any other purposes

A 23-year-old woman who got a friend to kill her baby cow was charged with skinning the calf to make a belt out of its hide.

most people would find this story abhorrent. its fucking sick whether she did it to a puppy or baby rhino. its just wrong.

That's the whole point though. Men and the animals they deem "pets", such as cats and dogs, have a special relationship not shared with other animals. That a human would violate that relationship shows them to be particularly abhorrent and most likely to violate the relationship that bounds humans to humans. Thus they need to be punished and hopefully rehabilitated.

At best one can only make tenuous inferences about how a person treats another person based on how he/she treats his/her pet. Most people draw a line between humans and animals. It also makes assumptions about the individual's conception of "pet", or in this case, if the woman had ever considered the puppy as a pet in the first place.

So being cruel to animals that you don't have any emotional attachment to is fine?

You sound like Elizabeth Hasselback on the The View:

a-3C0qFOSdE&feature=PlayList&p=6A7C7EF0032C447D&index=3

Elizabeth: I'm always skeptical about vegetarians that walk around in leather shoes.
Alicia Silverstone: I'm happy when anybody does anything good. So it's okay if you are vegie and have leather shoes because maybe they haven't got them yet... It's not an all or nothing thing. Do the best you can.

What an amazing attitude by Alicia Silverstone compared to an ignorant fool insecure about themselves.

But I'm not surprised, you're like the Elizabeth Hasselback of this board anyway. :o

Are you really this stupid? I think it's pretty clear I was saying cruelty to animals is a bad thing. You disagree? Because in many of your posts here you're always ranting about saving the Earth.

Your ridiculous vendetta against me is getting tiresome.

See this is your problem Scotso. You think that you're arguing for something but your posts come across as blatant attacks on those things you supposedly are for. Go back and read what you've posted and your hostile attitude against other posters and get back to me.

And your initial posts in this thread were exactly like the attacks that Elizabeth Hasselbeck launched against Alicia Silverstone and other vegetarians who wear leather. I don't care what feel about this issue but in here you're acting just like her.

Cats and dogs are household pets that most people don't use to eat and make clothes out of, unlike crocs and pigs.

Okay. You make a great point about factory farming but is this the thread to raise that point? You are welcome to create a thread to create awareness. Please go ahead, I'll be right here supporting you. But is this the right place? You ask yourself that question. Essentially you're asking people to not be angry or be upset just because there is a bigger fight going on. Well, if there's a post regarding a murder, will you then respond by saying "how is this any different from the fate of the Darfur facing genocide every day"?

Please Elizabeth Hasselbeck, no one's buying your act after you had the nerve to argue at length about how a Humane Society endorsement of Barack Obama is a bad thing. Who you hate and your agenda is pretty clear. Go keep looking for the whitey tape. Shoo!

Pretty clearly the poster is confused as to why people don't get more upset about all the other abuses of animals, not confused as to why people are upset about this one. They should be upset about all of it. Do any of you actually ever read the posts other people make? I mean, I'm pretty sure you saw my post above that already said all of this since you did manage to quote it.

You and Wigglytuff both make a habit of attacking people who are on the same side as you on issues. It isn't their fault you can't comprehend writing.

How does that poster know that people don't get more upset about all other abuses of animals? This is a thread discussing a single incident, a single issue. Do we need to consider and talk about the history of the entire world in order to discuss this? Must be Scotso logic.

Why does it have to be all or nothing?

If that said poster is genuinely concerned about factory farming. Great! Create a thread. Create awareness. I will more than be willing to get behind them.

Talking about other incidences and asking why that's not as important in a thread like this where people are already angry is nothing but trolling.

Remind me next time you create a thread about gay rights to ask why people don't get more upset about all the other abuses of the rights of human beings.

seriously hun, get over yourself. obviously youre the one who likes to troll around in threads arguing with people then resorting to name calling when you have nothing intellegent to say (which judging by all the insults you throw out, would be a lot). partbrit is making a comparasion that behavior like this goes on in the United States without anything being done about i.e the torture of chickens that are made into food for KFC. you should really sit back and and comprehend someones post before you cast them into the fire because like usual, you make a huge ass out of yourself.
