I only saw the last set and a half, but what I did see was a very passive match from Aleks. Too bad Aleks didn't bring her "A" game as she had the rest of the week, this was a winnable match for her. Good luck at the big W! :wavey:

After watching a good few of Caros games why do people call her a pusher?

Well done Caroline played quite solid again today.

Wozniak played fairly well in the 1st, but after that she was far too passive just hitting the ball down the middle of the court alot of the time and allowing Caroline to dictate far too many points. To beat Wozniacki you need to be aggressive not counterpush.

Some fun, long points. Mostly ending on errors.

Shame that Aleks run comes to an end, but she played some solid tennis this week.

Congrats to Caro :hearts: she looks great. Now plleeeaasse win the final.

Dreadful conditions... Ola was dealing with them better early on, but sadly she let it slip in the 2nd. Lost her serve and behind it all confidence. Too bad. :(
Congratulations, Caro. 27 winners. :yeah:

boring stuff.Wozniacki became much more agressive after talking to her coach in mid 2nd set while Wozniak's level slowly dropped.
Hope Virginie will take the title :)

I enjoyed this, despite the ridiculous wind at times. Happy Caro won through, but I love Aleks; she's got a really ncie game to watch, and I've warmed to her a lot.

After watching a good few of Caros games why do people call her a pusher?

Tell me about it; it's just some dumbass misconception on this board, where if you repeat things enough times, people think they're true.

Pretty good match, sometimes messy because of the win. I was actually rooting for Aleks to get this win but she was far too passive later in the match, hitting up the center of the court. Good luck at Wimbledon! :yeah:

Caroline, you must take the title now! :worship:

She's not. In fact, Caro has stated that she prefers the faster courts over clay. She might not hit 40 winners a match but she has no problems with being aggressive when necessary.

Dont understand them. To me she seemed anything but a pusher. 27 winners and 37 UEs in EXTREMELY hard conditions speaks of her aggresiveness on court. And she seems like a nice and genuine girl so i hope she keeps climbing the rankings.

The wind went wild sometimes, but in spite of / because of that it was an entertaining match.

In Wtaworld, if you lack power, you're a pusher. If you hit winners that are not from a powerful FH/BH, you're a pusher. If you play long rallies and vary that pace and spin, you're a pusher. If you're young and have taken out other top players, you're a pusher.

The match was unbearable to watch thanks to Wozniak who played absolutely brainless. After performance like that she joins Dushevina in my personal list of "athletes" who don't have a right to call themselves tennis players cos what she was doing today had nothing to do with tennis.
I actually felt sorry for Wozniacki who had to deal not only with the wind but also with a clown across the net. No wonder Caro struggled so much since she was forced to be an aggressor on the court and she is not used to playing that role.

I've never really seen anything top20 in Wozniak. She's just another brainless ballbasher if you ask me.

WD Caro. :bowdown:Now take the title.

Well - I watched Caro's last 3 matches - and I reckon the people who call her a pusher simpy haven't actually ever watched her and are blindly repeatiing what someone else has said. Anyway - this match had me worried for Caro. Caro normally doesn't have any trouble with Aleks but Aleks has been playing really well and had Caro in a lot of trouble. Also she returned Caro's service so well - way better than anyone else has done. No free points there - well not many.

Of course - both girls had terrible conditions with the wind and the gusts of wind. Even so - there were some really good points. Made up for the first match which was not good but was in perfect conditions. And quickly over when Bartoli retired.

Unwatchable for the most.

Terrible conditions + bad bounces galore + player with no footwork + player with loopy strokes that were blown by the wind into every possible direction = trainwreck.

Had this match been in any way relevant, I suppose we would have had a bunch of Americans in here with their usual "tough guy" talk about how "players must learn how to deal with extreme conditions" (this includes 45ºC+ heat, gale force winds that make it next to impossible to play tennis, and so on). I don't care - wind this strong just doesn't allow for enjoyable tennis.

Wozniak, once quite heavy, now looks about as fit as someone with her build can become (great tan, too) - but she's still very slow, and her footwork next to nonexistent. Evidence that a player working on her fitness, no matter how hard, won't necessarily make her faster or more agile.

In the 1st set, Wozniak was hitting the ball well and played very steady. And she actually played a smart match from a tactical POV: served into Wozniacki's FH (always a liability on ROS) to win the point outright or to get a short return and work the point from there, and threw in a few topspin shots at the right time when required to stay in rallies. Can't volley to save her life though - that she was actually quite close to making a grasscourt final just about shows how irrelevant the grass season as a whole has become.

Wozniacki was hitting wild errors nearly every time she went for winners from the baseline. Also a few shanks in standard rally shots throughout.

But then the conditions became worse, the bounces were completely unpredictable, and Wozniak, given her woeful footwork, could no longer hit through the ball properly, her shots lacking any kind of pace or depth and being blown all over the place by the wind, and her serve went away. Remarkable that she still managed to make the last two sets tight - and a sign of how poorly Wozniacki played throughout.

Or better: just about shows how irrelevant traditional grasscourt skills have become.
