In a new pre-Wimbledon video, up on the official WTA website, we find that Venus has miraculously grown another 15 inches of hair :hearts:. Given that it is Wimbledon and she is no longer bald is there anyone willing to bet against her?

I was thinking the same thing! There's no way she loses now

Long hair is good

now she has to avoid a yellow dress
That should be OK since it is Wimbledon!

The title is hers for sure!

But in 2006, Venus' Wimbledon dress had the yellow stripe around her waist and she lost 3rd round :sobbing:

it wouldn't be wimbledon without venus looking a hot mess! remember in 07 when she had that whole fringe-over-visor 'do happening..that was a good year.

Venus' hair off court looked great that year...... it just caused a special looking bang over her visor when she was on court....

She has to have terrible hair at Wimbledon or she won't win. Every time she looks amazing in her hair, she loses. I'm telling you. :P

That's not true, the hair was awesome :hearts: in 2001 and last year it looked great too.:D

Oh no - she's not resorting to those manky cornrows is she? She looked much better without.

Constantly putting hair extensions in your hair makes you go bald anyway.

She's worn her real hair on court before. And she's not ashamed of anything, it might be hard for you to understand but some types of hair don't do so well with sweat.

so because she likes to wear wigs and weaves it means she hates her hair? what about the ppl that use hairspray , hair gel etc to change the appearance of their natural hair? she just likes to change her hairstyle ALOT nothing else

she already used her natural hair in the past btw

I know that, but she could change hairstyles with her real hair. Why wearing fake hair all the time ?
(the "ashamed" part was not serious but still : I prefer to see her with Afro haircut for example, than putting fake things on her head all the time.Just a personal preference).

It's really hard and time consuming to manage the natural hair during a slam. In the fall for the past several years Venus sports the natural. She takes the weave out every time she has time off, and I fully expect her not to wear them very often when she retires. If she was sporting the "Afro haircut" as you described it, she would have to braid it every night, undo the braids every morning, pick it out then put some hairspray in it. Now doesn't that sound time consuming and distracting when you're trying to win a major?:p The weaves just make it easier during a hectic time period. This really is a thing that people who have that texture of hair know more about. 2005 AO was the real stuff too you know. And how many years did she rock the beads and the braids, that was the natural too, and a very strong statement of ethnic pride.:wavey: It's funny how this is a discussion that only affects a select few players, no one seems to care when others show up at the red carpet or charity events with thick full hair that they don't seem to have on the court.

Girls with straight hair used to use rollers and get perms. Now girls who have even a hint of wave in their hair spend hours with a ceramic straightener. People change with the trends to be on the right side of what is considered beautiful. Serena gets crap for having a tumbleweed on her head and now people want to pick on Venus's hair (which by the way how can you claim that isn't natural, maybe she's like those play-doh people and can just push down on her scalp to help it grow). Let's not find stupid things to pick on lets stick to the original and very very intelligent point that Venus plays well when she has nice hair.

You started this thread, and you have to realize that a woman especially a woman of African descents hair can be a very very touchy subject. As people of African descent have been made to feel ashamed and have even been ridiculed in popular culture especially here in America for the texture and length of there hair. It is and will continue to be a difficult discussion to have without offending people in a very personal way. Black hair is different than Caucasian and Asian hair, so for people who don't understand the intricacies and procedures in managing and styling it, it is quite offensive to be told what someone should or shouldn't do with it.

No, I completely agree with you, I was referring moreso to the people who find fault with everything (Serena's natural hair, Venus's unnatural hair). I think it's wrong for anyone to say this or that about person's hair. Weaves are not unique to black women. Jelena had extensions at Roland Garros.

I understand that you didn't broach the subject with ill-intent. It's just that it can degenerate so quickly when people make ignorant comments without knowledge on this subject and the sore spot it touches for many.

You do realize that some of the tourneys Serena has played with the shorter hair are weaves too? ;)

I know it's a touchy subject for some, it doesn't mean we can't have an opinion and voice it.Fact is, Venus and Serena wear wigs/weaves etc... very often (not just during tennis events).I just think that most of the time Venus looks better with natural hair than what she's wearing (can't remember the year, but a "Michael Chang" wig comes to mind :o).

I've had a sneaking suspicion that her current style is a weave. At the French when she scratched her head in an interview it moved like a weave. Which makes her styling choice all the more perplexing.

Well too bad you are not comfortable with her weaves or wigs if I may put it that way,but that is what she chose to wear and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it except ridiculing her in a tennis forum. She does not have to do what you prefer ,she has to do what she prefers and comfortable with.

Her hair is fine and usually when she "airs" her hair out and goes natural that means she is saving a weave for a big event...YEC here we come:inlove: She did natural at Zurich and then weave at YEC and won both, I would love if she did that this year:lol:

What is that between the white thing and the part where it springs out?

It's a nylon sleeve, used to tie the hair back. The "white thing" is simply a hair clip to keep the hair in place and keep it from falling forward into her face. The hairstyle is called the "pony puff" a combination of "pony tail" and "afro puff" It's actually a very common hairstyle among black women here in the states and for women who want to wear their hair "naturally" and without the use of harsh chemicals. :worship:

Here's how you do it...
<object width="340" height="285"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/O62LKxKgjFw&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/O62LKxKgjFw&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="340" height="285"></embed></object>
