View Full Version : Are you happy with the draw?

Im very mixed. Marion has Wozniak thrid round (WHY?) then Vera. :sobbing: Though Vera has been injured so unlikely she'll make 4th? But other side of that looks very weak. Winner there might be semi-finalist.

EDIT: Damn, shuldve wrote them better. 4th one is for people happy about the fact, might sound other way around.

I am happy about the fact that Venus and Serena are on the opposite sides and Roger has an easy draw.

It would be better if Sharapova/Azarenka/Serena weren't all in the same section but it is probably as good as it can be.

The first and third quarters will be hot messes.

Williams Sister final and Roger's draw make me happy though. :)

Söderling in the 4R is not an easy draw.

Federer has recently defeated Soderling in straights on his worst surface, so I guess people will assume it's an easy match-up?

Mauresmo losing to Dinara early
Kimiko getting Caro
Stosur-Dokic second round match and both being in Venus' section
Vera getting Virgine and Marion, tough players.
Sharapova and Serena is same quarter.

Horrible draw, hate it. No good first round matches really, a lot of the top seeds will probably lose and we will have to sit through another boring Williams final.

Not happy at all. The two players I'm going to follow Sam and Jelena D have winnable first round matches so they can play each other. The computer really wants me to sleep early by the end of the first week. Darn draws being done by evil computers.

Soderling is better on grass too though. Then in the quarters he has Tsonga.

My only problem with it is the weakness of the third quarter. Really anyone can come through that. Brit Josh Goofa could even make the SF from that section...

Truth.
Plus there is a big difference between playing Fed in the 4R and playing him in your first GS final.

I agree but Jelena could have drawn a Williams in the first round being unseeded..

1r winnable
2r Jelena is better on grass than Sam (if shes fit and playing her A game)
3r Depends which Ana shows up. :help:
4r Venus ...:tape:

Not at all. In fact, I'd say I loathe it.

(1)Safina vs. Dominguez Lino - easy win
Kvitova vs. Kirilenko - with Kirilenko on grass anything is possible
Voegele vs. (3)V.Williams -
(Q)Sevastova vs. K.Bondarenko -
Peng vs. Glatch - probably a loss
Goerges vs. (6)Jankovic -
Bacsinszky vs. (Q)Manasieva - easy win
(22)Cornet vs. Dushevina - loss
(21)Schnyder vs. Sugiyama - she would lose to anyone so her opponent is irrelevant
Safarova vs. Groth - toss-up

And that's just the first round. Not looking good for me.

It looks fine to me. Some good R16 matches coming
Maria-Vika, Serena-Tammy, Venus-Ana, Sveta-Caro
The talent is spread out

Volcana

I see nothing horibble in the draw. The talent is spread out pretty evenly. The Safina quarter is a bit light, but that's because she's in it. She's not one of the four best players in the world on this surface. She may not be one of the eight best.

But seeding her #1 is defensible, and you could argue the draw itself could have come out exactly the same way if Venus was the #1 seed, and Safina #3. And I certainlywould NOT advocate dropping the #1 ranked player in the world out of the top four seeds.

As for over-seeding Sharapova, I think that worked out too. The slams reserve the right tweak to thier seedings. And in this case, the AEC gave themselves a chance at a re-match of the 2004 final IF Sharapova is playing well enough to beat Azarenka. That seems fair without disadvantaging anyone with a predictable chance of winning the tournament.

1r - Kutuzova
2r - Dulko/Foretz
3r - Petrova
4r - Azarenka

That seems to me to be a fair test of Sharapova's form.

So no harm no foul on the seeding.

very happy. very balanced draw if you ask me.

so glad venus and serena can't meet until' the final. i fully expect a serena/sharapova QF. i think it will be a surprise top half finalist with serena being the bottom half finalist.

go wimbledon 2009!

Top half of the bottom is a little light, but overall pretty balanced. Some interesting qf match-ups. I like it.

No. There's one section where I have 5 faves:o (Azarenka, Cirstea, Gallovits, Olaru, and Dechy) and then there's sections where I have NO faves. I wish they could be spread out:sad:

So I'm pretty happy with this draw! Williams Sisters are on opposite sides and Sharapova should make the 4R comfortably. :) Serena has a couple challenges in her section in Jie and Rybarikova, but I think she'll get past them comfortably. Venus has Stosur, Dokic, and Ivanovic. That figures... luckily it's grass and I think Venus will do just fine. If Alexa is playing her best, then I think she can beat Peng. It all depends though. She has the weapons to do it. Melanie drew Bammer, who she beat last year at the Bell Challenge. If Mel is playing well, like she seems to have been based on her last two scorelines, then I think she could pull off an upset. Bethanie got a tough draw again... I hope she can win a round here at least, or her rank will take a big dive. Vania King got a winnable first round.
That's my analysis for my favorites.
