i like how it's a dissing track , how she's just pretty much dissing ppl who said ish about her, love that concept but that's it :o i hope the new album is far from this.

this is going to be fun , Whitney is releasing her Album in September and Mariah in August (25th i believe)...

Hmmm, as a rule of thumb I'm never really keen on her first single from the new album. It's good but nothing special.

Really? If that's so, then it's very lame. Eminem is so old hat, nevermind a song about him.

It's a decent pop song. But it's nothing really outstanding.

I thought Mariah was releasing her album the third week of September. With Shitina Augilera, Usher and Jay-Z releasing their albums all around that time too. So Whitney will kick it all off.

It is gonna rule the summer! If you guys were expecting a power ballad, expect it as the 2nd single. She has HUGE vocals on the ballads in the album.

To be honest I'm a little underwhelmed by it. It's not a bad song and I have to admit it's catchy, but that autotone stuff is really getting out of hand with Jamie Fox and T-Pain, now Mariah. It sounds too trendy for my personal taste, and I really hope the whole album isn't like that track.

Mariah usually has good albums so I'm still anxiously looking forward to her album in late August.

I thought Mariah was releasing her album the third week of September. With Shitina Augilera, Usher and Jay-Z releasing their albums all around that time too. So Whitney will kick it all off
Mariah first August 25th
Whitney second Sept. 1st

I'm not feeling it.

Is it sad that I feel that Lady Gaga's Paparazzi is a better version of Mariah's Obcessed?

Not only do I feel that it's better rhythmically but I feel that Lady Gaga has a better vocal range in that song than in this song.

You know, people appreciate when an artist actually grows up.
Ask Mary J. Blige.
Time to leave the shorts shorts and trends alone and really sing from the heart, if you still can Mariah.

Here's the official remix w/Gucci Mane:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/6146568455277115/

and here are the song lyrics, a little childish for a woman close to 40 years old, but then again it's meant to be fun so I'll give her a pass. but if the entire album is like this I will be really disappointed.

Will the real MC please step to the mic?
MC- You need an MC, place to be
MC the MC

All up in the blogs
Say we met at the bar
When I don't even know who you are
Say we up in your house
Sayin' I'm up in your car
But you in LA but I'm out at Jermaine's

I'm up in the A- you're so so lame
and no on here even mentions your name
It must be the weed, it must be the E
cuz you be poppin, hood, you get it poppin'

Ooh boy why you so obsessed with me?
Boy I want to know- lyin' that you're sexin me
when everybody knows it's clear that you're upset with me
Ohh finally found a girl that you couldn't impress
Last man on the earth- still couldn't get this

You're delusional, you're delusional
Boy you're losing your mind
It's confusin yo, you're confused you know
Why you wasting your time?
Got you all fired up with your ?
See right through you like you're bathin' in windex

Ooh Ohh Ohh boy why you so obsessed with me?
And all the ladies sing, all the girls sing
Soo Oohhhh Soo Oohh Obsessed

You on your job, you hittin' hard
Ain't gon feed you, gon' let you starve
Graspin' for air I'm ?
You out of breath, hope you ain't waitin
Tellin' the world how much you miss me
But we never were so why you trippin'
You a mom and pop, I'm a corporation
I'm the press conference, you a conversation

Ooh boy why you so obsessed with me?
Boy I want to know- lyin' that you're sexin me
when everybody knows it's clear that you're upset with me
Ohh finally found a girl that you couldn't impress
Last man on the earth- still couldn't get this

You're delusional, you're delusional
Boy you're losing your mind
It's confusin yo, you're confused you know
Why you wasting your time?
Got you all fired up with your ?

My self-declared lamb-friend studiously recorded, mp3-ed and emailed it to me. Under his hortatory urges, I had scant choice but to listen to the song.

It's pretty blah (to me, as most Mariah songs are) and akin to most of her recent catalogue - midtempo RnB pop with her usual splattering of vocal harmonies - which means it should keep the diehards satiated. BTW, aren't feuding songs between celebrities banal by now? Mariah comes across as pretty obsessed herself, seeing as she bothered with a musical riposte. Not that she had to do much legwork, I suppose.

Q: What do Eminem and Mariah Carey have in common?
A: They are both obsessed with Mariah. :p (Seriously... "Hate U", "Obsessed"? What's next and why is she so quasi-angsty?)

Drama always helps sales, so I wouldn't put it beyond her or her team to have used Eminem's latest disses as an opportunity.

Mary J Blige fans are insecure that Mariah is more successful and always will be. The same for Leona Lewis fans she is basically a second rate Mariah clone. Now that Mariah has returned she'll show everyone why she is the queen of hip-hop. Mary is washed up. Madonna isn't relevant anymore. Leona can never be Mariah. Janet=Flop. Beyonce will never have Mariah's success.

The song is great and most Mariah fans like it a lot. So it's another guaranteed number one so all the haters will just have to deal with that. After a while it does kind of get repetitive but she has a lot of remixes planed so that will help. Before the album comes out I am sure she will release her ballad, just like she did with E=MC2. It's Mariah's winning formula.

You're barking up the wrong tree with that psychoanalysis.

My biggest playlist on my iTouch is Mariah.
I have all of her rare remixes, even the stuff David Morales wouldn't touch.

Beyonce has a better chance at that and everyone knows I don't even like the bitch.
I'm at least realistic.
Hopefully you'll be able to get out of that delusional trance you're in because even though I don't like Beyonce she is 10 times the businesswomen that Mariah is and will be in the same echelon as Mariah.
One thing I will give Beyonce props for, at least she married the right rich monster unlike Mariah.

Mariah does not count on big opening weeks for good album sales... her albums generally depends on longevity ...

She's definitely taking a more Urban approach in this album... which is good becoz Pop has forsake her previously... and stop sayin she has to go back to Pop... if you miss her poppish hits..there's always Youtube

and to the people who keeps saying best thing abt Mariah is her voice... yes we know  after more than 19 yrs of yelling if you still dunno you must be living under the stone... but give her a break... who the hell screams in urban singles?

I actually think it's a really catchy beat and song...Lyrics don't bother me...If Madonna can still run around in videos in a pink leotard and Janet can still make songs about how high her sex drive still is, Mariah can throw out a song like this :p

Won't go down as a classic probably, but she's past her best years clearly anyway...The fact that her voice is very noticably digitally altered now says it all

her biggest prob right now is radio, this is how it is so far

I Gotta Feeling - Mediabase
Audience: 62.251
Spins: 10092

Obsessed - 21.913

Meaning: Obsessed will require at least additional 81K of download to top IGF. Example, if IGF download is 200K, Obsessed MUST have at least 281K.

Mariah's new single is not being warmly received by radio, insiders tell me. The song just went on sale digitally but it's already falling.- Perez Hilton

I felt so bad for Mariah with all the negative comments people were making about her performance at the memorial for Michael- hello people, it's a MEMORIAL and NOT a concert...geez.

Apparently Mariah got word of the bad things being said and offered an apology on her twitter account. She was obviously too emotional to sing.

Jul 8 2009 1:49 PM EDT
Mariah Carey Worries She 'Let Everybody Down' At Jackson Memorial:

-Mariah Carey had the difficult task of being the first performer at the Michael Jackson memorial on Tuesday. And when her voice cracked in the first few moments of her cover of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There," she said she felt like she disappointed everyone.

On the "Today" show Wednesday (July , Carey described how hard it was for her to sing on the show and how seeing the casket made it difficult for her to get through the performance. "I feel a little bit like I let everybody down, but I really did try and it was difficult," she said. "But you know what I think? It was a true and honest emotional moment."

On Tuesday, Mariah also took to her Twitter to share with her fans her disappointment over her performance and how completely emotional she became at the show. "Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me," she wrote. "I could barely keep myself from crying."

She apologized for the performance, during which she was joined by her "MTV Unplugged" duet partner Trey Lorenz. "I'm sorry that I wasn't able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him there in front of me," she tweeted. "One thing I know is, we will never really have to say goodbye to MJ. His legacy lives on through his music and the millions of people he inspired with his timeless music. He will be forever in our hearts."

Okay first off, Perez Hilton is a long-time hater of Mariah because she will always be more woman than he will ever be even after he dies. So his hating is just stupid.

Secondly, the song isn't doing well on the radio because it hasn't been released in the Top40 format yet. It has been released in the R&B formats where it is doing VERY well. If you listen to R&B radio stations, you will hear the song A LOT! Obsessed is going to Top40 format on July 21st.

Third, Obsessed is doing VERY well considering there is little promotion. #4 after two days on iTunes!??! That is pretty good. Plus the video (rumored to be very funny) hasn't been released it. Expect it to be out next WEEK!

So, after all is said and done...OBSESSED WILL DOMINATE AFTER THE VIDEO IS RELEASED, GOES ONTO THE TOP 40 FORMAT, AND MARIAH PROMOTES!

Obsessed FTW.

Opps forgot to add...Obsessed will most likely debut on the Billboard Hot 100 at around #7 to #12.

And the performance thing wasn't Mariah's fault. She was the only performer who didn't get to rehearse. MJ and Mariah were close and she was tearing and choking up.

Maybe in your country it is different. But in the US, it hasn't been released on the Top40 Pop format yet. Top40 is the most popular in the US. It is being released July 21st. After the release, it will be played like a bazillion times on every radio channel 24/7. :)

^ Now I love MC but that's BS, it's just not taking off on Top 40 yet. Top 40 wouldn't just wait a month to play a song from such a big star, particularly a lead single, so the add dates are meaningless. I do hope it starts to pick up airplay more, though.

Mariah's new single is not being warmly received by radio, insiders tell me. The song just went on sale digitally but it's already falling.- Perez Hilton

Apparently Mariah got word of the bad things being said and offered an apology on her twitter account. She was obviously too emotional to sing.

 She doesn't owe anyone an apology!!!
- I agree Perez is a lost cause- I really don't understand his celebrity one bit.
- And yes, everyone knows it's way too early to comment on the demise of the song. Next week it'll be the highest debuting song on the chart and it's already the #2 pop selling single on iTunes!!!
-To be fair though, on friendsofmariah.com (one of her biggest fan sites,) a lot of people are starting to panic about the reception @ radio- i don't really know how all that works, but it hasn't been out that long so i say give it more time.

I am actually surprised at how opitimistic some people are at this song having chart success. Last year after she released Touch My Body all her other singles bombed in the charts. That was only 12 months ago. I can't see how this drastically change. Mariah getting in the Top 10 with this song is pretty amazing considering how she struggled with getting a song in the Top 20 last year!

i agree. it doesn't sound like a new project at all , it just dropped way 2 soon and it just sounds like something out of E=MC2.

Perez is a 2 faced baboon but he is right, Radio isn't embracing the song that much,Obsessed isn't even getting half the spins Touch My Body got.
i wonder if Payola will be used again but hm Benny Medina isn't with her anymore and there are HUGE fines to labels that get caught using it so let's see how this ends.

No. She sings LIKE, (not love) in those vocals. They are at the end of the song and way off in the background; not even really meant to be prominent at all. Most people probably will never know she does it.

Island Def Jam hasn't authorized the release of the song to Pop Stations yet. It is only on Urban/R&B stations at the moment. Record companies PAY radio stations for this type of promotion. So why would radio stations play something before they get paid?

when stations get payed to play a song it's called Payola and that's cheating. Mariah has used this thing in the past (same with some other artists) but now (after WBT a song that was known for using this and was one of the songs responsible for the FCC investigations) she can't do it because huge fines are applied.
For example back in 05/06 Sony was guilty of using Payola and had to pay 10M for that.
http://www.dontbuycds.org/payola.htm

Benny Medina has left the building (which means Payola probably wont be used) so the only way out is by "playing" with Itunes or pull one of those "49 cents" single that pushed Loverboy to #2.

about the song not going to adds i read this on an article
"However, several people working at radio tell us that "add dates" don't mean anything and that radio stations have had access to "Obsessed" for two weeks. When an add date changes for a newly released song from a major superstar, the news is usually pretty bad."

let's wait to see what happens next

How silly of me. Of course the problem is my "pissy version." iTunes needs to cut that shit out and only charge for quality versions.

Normally, I'd say that I'd take your apology just as soon as you clean out your ears and man up, but I really don't care that much. The only thing worse than your piss poor attitude is your inability to hear.

Catchy. Low quality pop, but catchy enough. And with the buzz about Em it might do well on the charts and/or in the club.

But I had to go back to the biographies to check: Mariah is 39 years old. Eminem will be 37 in October. The lyrics and the whole situation is appropriate for middle- and high-schoolers at best. Both of them need to find ways to stay relevant that don't include pretending they're teenagers.

I like the demo. Thanks for posting it Sphenx (you will always be Sphenx to me :p ) This was the song that was played at that Def Jam party earlier in the year right? It will definitely sound better with Mariah singing it. I don't like The Dream's voice!

Yesterday I couldn't sleep, so I decided to listen to all my Mariah songs. One song that I was listening to that I didn't realise how good it was until I heard it yesterday was Right To Dream. It was her last new song before Obsessed. Although a lot thought it was boring, I really do like it. Her voice sounds so good in that song.
