I know this is gonna sound harsh, but I think Jen, Lindsay, and Venus needs a good serving coach to help them sort out the blips.
I agree with McEnroe on this(who I don't like btw). If these ladies worked on the serve a little more they could challenge Serena. Otherwise, the WTA might as well give Serena all the slams right now.

Venus's downfall is her consistency on the serve. And although I wanted her to win the finals this time, she wasn't ready. She was fortunate to get past Mauresmo, because her serve was too off.

Jen has taken Serena to three sets most of the time. But her serve is such a weak part of her game, she loses too many free point on it. Also, in her matchups with Serena she has had chances because Serena was playing badly at times, but now Jen is breaking down too much mentally against Serena. If Serena can duplicate this open performance, Jen or anyone else won't be a problem for her.

Lindsay is just returning back. But I have noticed a trend with Lindsay. She always double faults against Serena at the wrong times. Her serve is great when it's on, but even before she was injured it has lost it's consistency against the sisters. Movement has alot to do with Lindsay downfall also, she needs to do some drills.

Amelie has a good serve, and mixes it up well but I don't see her giving Serena too many problems if she's on her game. Amelie's doubles come at the wrong time also. Her serve has gotten better, but it seems like it will go away sooner or later in every match.

Don't even mention Kim, Justine, Monica, etc. because their serves go out like a light bulb. Sorry, that's how I see it.

Futhermore, if Serena keeps improving her serve, adding new angles, attacking the net, all with power and precision who can stop her? If the other ladies on the tour don't pick it up, then Serena will dominate next year also.

Also, the serving coach can't be in any relation to the players father's.

HELLO? Monica matters! Get Monica a serving coach as well.

I don't think Lindsay needs a serving coach at all. She has one of the most solid serves on the tour, the only reason she was double faulting against Serena was because of the pressure of Serena's return. It was nerves, nothing more.

I completely agree about Amelie. I've been harping on that same topic for years now. Her game would evolve so much more with a serve that's consistently a weapon.

OK, they should all work on their serves, but I think it's even more important that they work on their RETURNS.
For example, when Venus saved the 3 break-points against Amelie, her serves weren't that great. They were hard, OK, but some of them were badly placed, and Amelie could get her racket to it. But she was unable to bring it back over the net. Compared tpo that, male players have no trouble to return fast but badly placed serves.

They should practise to return these serves. They have to get used to the speed. So they have to practise with male players who can give them these serves. The result will be less free points for the opponent, because they will have to place the serve better, take more risks and miss more of them.
